Public Square is meant for things like this and the ice skating rink and fireworks, etc.

The lot would be leased for x amount of time. I'll just say, for the show owners, who need electricity to run their space, they prefer flat spaces like parking lots, so units/booths/spaces can be mapped out and raised and electricity can be easily laid. There are more advantages. Whenever we've done one of these "shoppes' weve always picked parking lots of fringe spaces. Taking over a parking lot is always the easiest situation.

October 28, 20195 yr Author There's just an immense amount of development buzz out there in recent weeks and especially in recent days. And SHW isn't even the largest piece of it. Of the projects that have been discussed publicly here on this forum, there's twice as much brewing out there. Not all of it is going to come to pass, of course. That's just way it is. October 28, 20195 yr Not to take away from any of the great and tantalizing info @KJP posted above- but noticed today that work has resumed at the Lincoln Building:
October 28, 20195 yr This is awesome. We’re seriously running out of buildings downtown to bring back to life. Adding more historically appropriate windows would turn this into a handsome building. October 28, 20195 yr @KJP Great stuff... so many of those are very exciting to read but to me "Two HQs moving downtown, with 900 jobs now, 1,800 in the future" is very significant- especially with that many jobs. If this is one of the more "for sure" items how soon do you suppose we might hear about it publicly?

You wont hear on the news how cool and interesting this is. Will we hear positive news about this and the embrace by citizens and tourist? Countering any local perceptions that Cleveland/Downtown is unsafe? Comments that there is nothing to do or see in Downtown? We need more installations by local artists in neighborhoods. Things that will unite communities. One of the most memorable moments of the RNC for me was when I was chilling in Public Square people watching on a nice evening. Most everyone was having a great time relaxing and hanging out. Behind me, two reporters loudly complained that "nothing was happening, what are we going to write about?" ?

I'm sure they'll only invest these in hotbed areas like UC, DT, OC, Tremont etc. I know they have one under wraps at the corner of 105th and Ashbury next to the Circle North building. I would love to see the other new way finding signs that Are downtown be expanded (the orange and black ones) throughout the city to replace the old triangular ones.

"The city's Planning Commission recently approved using a version of form-based zoning for a two-block development proposed by Weston Inc. and Citymark Capital in the city's Warehouse District." Full article here: https://www.cleveland.com/architecture/2016/03/new_zoning_will_require_cultur.html I'm not sure that form based code was ever agreed to be adopted for that area. Cleveland has a website dedicated to form based code and so far Detroit Shoreway is the only area identified. https://thelandcode.com/
November 4, 20195 yr It was adopted. What it is is an urban core overlay, a district which provides additional regulations that are form-like. Requirements include 70% of the first floor being an “active use”, no maximum floor area ratios, requirements for main pedestrian entrances, transparent windows, no required parking, etc
November 5, 20195 yr An astonishingly small amount of cleveland and downtown are covered by the City's form-lite overlays. You can see them here: http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/gis/cpc/basemap.jsp?command=larger The Horseshoe is not covered by the overlay.

DCA and Land Studio and other groups have been working on this for a couple years ever since they did a Downtown Cleveland Resident survey about the top desires of needed enhancements to Downtown. And one of most requested item was need for new playgrounds for growing families living DOWNTOWN. Especially since other neighborhoods with smaller population all have four or more playgrounds each.
November 13, 20195 yr @KJP I know you said there is an NDA in place and therefore you cant give anything about who the company is. However, you said it would be "Bigger" than a Progressive HQ downtown. Seeing as Progressive is bigger than Sherwin Williams(from a quick search) and is 99 on Forbes500 list, whereas SHW is 177 on Forbes500 list, then they would in theory be able to build a bigger HQ then SHW. So are you saying this new mystery company is bigger than Progressive and would build a bigger facility then theoretical Progressive? If so, would it be that they are relocating their HQ to Cleveland? Or, are you just saying that a company is going to have a small presence in Cleveland that will make a big impact? Sorry for the mixed up questions, I'm just trying to understand the hints a little better.
