I hope this isn't that difficult, jam40jeff. The April Fools joke is the revitalizing of the Erieview Tower, including the new exterior (ie: it isn't really going to happen). 3231 smelled it out, asking about MayDay's past April Fool's joke about the Progressive Tower.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I was joking (albeit a poor one I guess).  Keep in mind that I am probably serious about as often as KOOW (but still more than the pope).

Got this in my email this morning. I wondered why they had asked me for permission to use this image - now I know why. This is pretty interesting - I think I might actually miss the dark facade, but who knows?

For immediate release: Minshall Development Company continues to invest in Tower and Galleria at Erieview

It is with great pleasure that Minshall Development Company announces the next phase of improvements for the Tower and Galleria at Erieview, our signature property in downtown Cleveland. Minshall Development Company CEO Werner E. Minshall states "the investments at Erieview represent Minshall Development Company's enduring commitment to downtown Cleveland".

Dollar Bank, a regional bank based in Pittsburgh, is relocating a retail branch and offices from the Tower at Erieview to the corner of East Ninth Street and St. Clair Avenue. This relocation and expansion is the result of a multi-million dollar investment. The exterior of the bank branch will feature a high-profile digital screen, glass facade, and a new entrance at the southwest corner. The Tower at Erieview is to undergo major capital improvements to better serve our tenants. A new and efficient HVAC system is scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2008. This new system utilizes the latest "green" technologies to provide a comfortable environment for tenants and guests of the Erieview complex. Installation and design of the HVAC system was handled exclusively by Johnson Controls, Inc. Representing the largest investment in the next phase of improvements, the existing facade of the Tower at Erieview will be removed and replaced with energy-efficient panels. The panels are composed of an aluminum alloy which will reflect heat, reducing the load on the building's cooling system. The new facade will also improve the aesthetic appeal of the Tower at Erieview, affirming its status as a landmark of downtown Cleveland. DAS Construction, Panzica, and Coon Restoration have been selected as the team responsible for the facade replacement.

Okay folks, I guess it's time to fess up. I completely fabricated this press release and Photoshopped a new facade - the Tower at Erieview is NOT being reclad any time soon. Please don't hate me, but April Fools!!! ;-)

Good one!  Too bad though, because that looks seriously nice and the current tower might actually qualify as a "light sink".

I managed to pull off a good AF joke on a forum I co-moderate.  I mentioned my girlfriend's sister's upcoming wedding in a way that it sounded like it was going to be ours...without actually saying anything untrue.  Then I refrained from posting for the rest of the day.

Oh no you didn't...

Usually airliners.net have april fools jokes like Emirates setting up a North American Hub at CLE or Continental starting non-stops CLE-Johannesburg.

It's April already!

Hey guys, the press release came from Mel Faczant ;-)

I have to admit my favorite was a few years ago on skyscraperpage.com's forum. I faked a press release that said the upper floors of the Terminal Tower would be dismantled/demolished because of inefficient floorplates and deterioration. Of course I photoshopped off the upper floors and took a little time to make it look accurate. Mind you the tower had some scaffolding up for routine maintenance already. Did I mention that the press release said the Landmarks Commission approved? I think people were ready to march down to Public Square to protest so I had to fess up to that right away.

that was the best you could come up with?  I'm disappointed MayDay!  You could've at least added something in there like a new anchor retail tenant in the Galleria!

what about that progressive life tower to be built on public square... that was just mean haha

I've wondered for awhile: what's in the 43rd - 51st floors in Terminal?  Everyone here has to know the observation deck and last I heard the 52nd floor was a phone booth sized radio studio.  But is the rest all service equipment?

You know, I read the Erieview article, and I was still disappointed that no one attempted an April Fool's joke.

Me smart

Does anyone know what DAS construction is doing to the building across from Starbuck's on Euclid and E.14?  Are they just replacing the windows or are any apartments going in?

Also, why does the corridor require separate loading islands for east and west?  Could this not have been achieved with just one island?

Welcome aboard Palijandro7. Does your forum name mean there are only six other Palijandros in the world?

To answer your question, it might be best if you post it at:

You are likely to get someone from RTA to answer your question. Please keep posting. It's great to have you here.

^^ That building is the local United Way HQ. It was just an exterior rennovation.

Thanks.  It's great to be on here.  I did not realize there were other people interested in these things.  I doubt there are 7 palijandro's, but I know there is at least 1 other (hence why I had to put the number).  Anyways, thanks for the answer.

Sorry to be an annoyance, but I've never had this forum before.  Anyways, I checked on mayfieldlofts.com and there was nothing there.  Does anyone have any updates on it?

^check out the University Circle projects thread for more info and pictures. Mayfield Lofts has been approved by the city design review last month and looks to be headed towards breaking ground.

Interesting little development I noticed while walking along the Euclid Corridor the last couple days... In the summer of 2006 some painters showed up on Huron Rd and started working on the Halle Garage.  The window frames of the garage (and the Halle building itself) are this awful pink, and pretty rusted out.  They painted all the window trim and frame on the Huron side of the garage a hunter green.  It made a bigger visual improvement than you would think.  Then they moved over to the actual Halle building (Huron Rd side) and began the trim over there.  They were about 3/4 of the way across the 2nd floor windows (the high arching ones), when they abruptly stopped midway through one window. They never came back.  I always assumed this had something with Case pulling out it's commitment to move offices here. Fast forward to Monday.  Walking down Euclid, I noticed a gradall lift on the sidewalk in front  of Halle's, and the guys in the basket were completely replacing the 2nd floor high arching windows and muntins on the Euclid side... in a hunter green.  There appears to be construction walls behind the windows.  I have no idea if they are also planning on replacing the windows on floors 3-11.  But maybe they stopped painting a year and a half ago because they realized the window frames were in such poor shape that they all needed to be replaced, and it took them a while to raise the improvement $.  If they are really replacing all the windows in this building that could have a substantial visual impact on Euclid Avenue... anyone heard if they are in fact replacing all windows?

Has anyone seen the cleared out bottom floor of the building immediately west of E.4th?  Any ideas what is going in there.  It seems that it has been gutted for some time, but I have not heard what is going in there.

^On Euclid? If so, take a closer look. BlackFin will be going into that space. There are signs posted on the windows. I'm assuming that they will start work on that space once La Strada is finished (which looks to be getting pretty close).

It's "Blackfinn Saloon".  You can probably find some information on it in the East 4th development thread.

It moves at the pace of a snail, because MRN uses their own crew for all that work. Currently they are focussed on the opening of Bang and Clatter, and then will shift to La Strada... all the while they are working on the apartments of corner alley.  I hear it should be done by fall.

McCleveland, I have been wanting to say this for a long time.  I always enjoy and look forward to your posts.  They are always packed with interesting news, usually stuff that has not been reported before on the board, and you have some pretty good insights as well.  Thanks for your time and effort.

Oh god, there's a black finn in Royal Oak?

Does anyone know of is a concise history/project scope summary of E. 4th exists (other than this thread)?

EDIT: oops wrong thread

MAYDAY.  I am too thru with you.  You had me going there for a minute.

Why I oughta.......pow right in the kissa!

I think this is a great, exciting project. It's a way to use Cleveland's established strengths as a center for medicine in a very different way. And the new jobs won't just be store clerks and salespeople (though those nothing wrong with those jobs, they just can't be the driving force behind a city's economy).

Here's hoping big time this one happens.

I like the sounds of all those jobs...  And sure hope it's along Euclid.  I'm still bummed that the Clinic/Fairfax Cardio Business thing is stuck way back on Cedar.

I love this as well.

Cedar needs love, too!

What are you referring to?  Is this the "Innovation" or something like that building?  Have they started on it?  Sorry to go off topic.

I beleive that StrapHanger is referring to the Global Cardiovascular Innovation Center.

Which is alright on Cedar - it will be a great boost for the Fairfax neighborhood, and actually shows the Clinic helping them out for once.

^Global Cardiovascular Innovation Center

^Yes, that would be the "real" name of what I was referring to.

And yes, I suppose Cedar needs some stuff too.  But maybe it would benefit more from the crime lab.

I'd love to see the GCIC on Euclid to the east of the campus (or in front of the Cole Eye Center).  I'd love to see this CSI thing just to the immediate east of E.55.

I'm hoping somewhere closer to Cleveland State.  But definetly on Euclid.

I'd love to see this CSI thing just to the immediate east of E.55.

that is exactly what I was thinking!  3231, you're a smart kid!

Here's a question. What's happening with the former WKYC building? I had read it was going to be made into a hotel. Is that still happening?

I believe the WKYC building is still going to be made into a hotel (Staybridge?).  The development has been pushed back because the developer wasn't granted a historic state tax credit.  There's an article about it in the forum somewhere.

I couldn't find the thread on the Euclid Corridor project, but I had one question about it. It appears the terminals will be in the middle of the street from downtown out to the Clinic. But then I see the terminals on the exterior of the road starting somewhere towards case. How are these "vehicles" going to make it from the inside of the road (with cars to the outter lane) to the outer lane without running into the cars?

Perfectly good stuff finds new home at ReStore

The gravel lot of Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity's ReStore resale shop on Union Avenue is filled with the whine of small front loaders, workers pushing overloaded wheeled carts and pickup trucks burping ex haust and merchan dise near a curved entryway. It's a high- energy, watch- your- step experi ence...

jpop...why post this?? Its no long my little secret!  damn you!  just kidding.

If you go here, plan on spending a LONG time looking for items.  My cousin found some fabulous door knob for her craftsman stlye house.

Haha. Well, maybe if more people shop there, they'll have more hours? Would be nice, right?

Besides, it was the PD, not me!

It's the best place for people restoring old homes.  You can't find stuff like that at home depot!

I've seen some great '40s/'50s kitchen and bathroom tiles in there as well.
