August 22, 20159 yr Excellent sleuthing. I hate that it's another car dealership but am glad to know what's happening.
August 22, 20159 yr 2. Anyone know what's going on/in with the former Outback steakhouse space in Greens of Lyndhurst? There's some construction there in the building. An independent Mexican restaurant is going in there. That area is also getting a Moe's Southwest Grill. Moe's is planned for one of the outlots at Oakwood Commons. That will join a new Chipotle in Highland Heights on Wilson Mills across from Progressive. Lots of new Mexican options on the eastside. Also somewhat related, The Greens of Lyndhurst will be losing their Third Federal branch. That's moving down Mayfield to where Pizza Hut was. The old Pizza Hut has already been demolished.
August 23, 20159 yr Interesting. I remember when Third Federal had a stand alone location on Mayfield Road before moving into the Greens.
August 24, 20159 yr Former Parker Hannifin home will be transformed By STAN BULLARD Lawyer turned entrepreneur turned real estate developer Lance B. Johnson is getting ready to turn the lights back on at the former Cleveland Clinic administrative center and one-time headquarters of Parker Hannifin Corp. in Cleveland. However, he plans to do so only one floor at a time in the massive office, warehouse and former data center with a half-million square feet of space on 17 acres at 17325 Euclid Ave. Electricity and natural gas costs are substantial for bringing back to use the property as a multitenant business complex, Johnson said in an interview as he toured the project last Wednesday, Aug. 19. Utility costs may be high, but he got the property for virtually a pittance. According to Cuyahoga County land records, Johnson's Chandler Park LLC paid just $400,000 on Aug. 13 for the building. In other words, he paid about 76 cents a square foot for the site, which is essential for his plan to offer inexpensive office and industrial space in the complex. “For almost 100 years, there's been no access for the community to this property,” Johnson said of the complex surrounded by a chain-link fence topped with barbed wire. “For this to flourish, it has to become a community center, a home for businesses and activities associated with the community.” http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20150823/NEWS/308239993/former-parker-hannifin-home-will-be-transformed?X-IgnoreUserAgent=1

September 1, 20159 yr Author In suburbia.... Independence, Fairmount Properties team up to develop 33 acres of city-owned land September 01, 2015 UPDATED 3 HOURS AGO By STAN BULLARD The city of Independence wants to be known as more than the biggest part of the Rockside Road office corridor, and it just teamed up with Cleveland-based Fairmount Properties to try to make that happen. Fairmount, which develops student housing, retail and mixed-use projects, and Independence announced they have executed a memorandum of understanding covering the development of 33 acres the city owns on two sites: on the north side of Rockside Road at Oak Tree Boulevard, and at a former middle school on Brecksville Road. Independence already has approved a series of plans for both sites that provide a vision to create distinctive environments on them. Initial planning calls for the land on Rockside at Oak Tree — often called the “northwest quadrant” of the city — to be developed as a mixed-use district with a variety of retail, restaurant and residential uses organized in a walkable area. The vision for downtown Independence at the middle school site is to concentrate on adding for-sale housing options that do not currently exist in the suburb for young professionals and empty nesters. The middle school site, which adjoins several retail operations, may also include a neighborhood-focused retail center. The parties said they now plan to focus on pre-development activities and hope to produce initial phases of the developments by 2017. September 2, 20159 yr Author Too bad we can't do routine maintenance to show how much we value the people who are here everyday or want to be.... Downtown Prepares for RNC by Polishing and Repairing Buildings By Northeast Ohio Media Group Marketing Staff on August 25, 2015 at 9:44 AM Cleveland's population will grow by an estimated 85,000 people for five days in July 2016 during the Republican National Convention (RNC). The expected economic impact on the city is $400 million. Downtown building owners are preparing to be in the national spotlight by polishing up facades: repainting, tuck-pointing, sealing cracks, beautifying streetscape and handling overdue infrastructural repairs. "We're helping people restore their buildings not only structurally, but for appearance so people can see how great Cleveland is," says Michael Tomasone, owner of Southwest Companies, a property restoration company that has been restoring and repairing Cleveland-area buildings for 30 years. Tomasone began working for the family business when he was 15 years old—and construction in Northeast Ohio has never been so busy, he says. He points to restorations on the Block Building at West Sixth Street and St. Clair Ave., as an example of buildings making improvements in time for the convention next year. "That was driven by the RNC," Tomasone says. September 23, 20159 yr I know better than to read or believe cleveland dot bomb comments, but there was reference to the old Giant Eagle building at South Park (across from Applebees) being turned into a multilevel group of shops. I did see some construction has started there, but can't find any info about this at all. Anyone know anything? Would be nice to know what's coming. I'm curious what could possibly be built with the stores in the Greens across the street (diagonally) and all the stores in the mall, and the Costco plaza down and across the street the other way. What could be left?

September 29, 20159 yr Author Moving out of downtown -- specifically part of the Plain Dealer building at 1801 Superior. But this one actually makes sense to me... MCPc expands near Cleveland Hopkins to ease equipment shipping September 29, 2015 UPDATED 4 HOURS AGO By CHUCK SODER MCPc soon will have an easier time shipping computer equipment all over the country. Roughly 65 of the company’s 300 employees are scheduled to move into a facility near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in December. The information technology services company just signed a 10-year lease at a building called Sky Park 1. There’s a reason why the Cleveland-based company decided to move into a space formerly occupied by DHL, a major logistics company: The MCPc business unit that will take over the 80,000-square-foot space helps other companies manage their desktops, laptops and other computer equipment. That often means shipping that equipment to distant locations. The company loads computer equipment onto planes on a daily basis, according to MCPc president Andy Jones. October 4, 20159 yr Author Nice overview on the mindset of construction companies post-recession: The 'tide has turned' in construction in Northeast Ohio October 04, 2015 By STAN BULLARD For the folks in construction — from the ones behind the orange barrels maddeningly clogging Cleveland streets with traffic to the nail gunners who frame single family homes — the good times are going again. Set against the worst building market since the end of World War II and blues that went with it just five years ago, it’s a stark turnaround. To prove it, ask Roger Gingerich, partner-in-charge of the real estate and construction group at Mayfield Village-based Skoda Minotti accounting and financial advisory firm. As the orchestrator of a survey of construction company owners and executives since 2008, he has the numbers to prove it in the just-completed 2015 survey. In 2010, lack of work was a threat to their business for 69% of the respondents. This year, it is an issue for just 14%. The leading worry this year also is telling, as securing skilled labor is considered the biggest threat for 39% of the contractors. Concerns are closely spread among five other factors.
