Reinsdorf is expecting over a billion dollars in public subsidies so the Sox can move to a completely undeveloped chunk of land a few miles north. My god, this guy is even worse than Haslam. If the Ricketts can fund Wrigley's multi-year renovations, so too can this scam artist. Comiskey, I'm sorry Guaranteed Rate, uniquely accesible with train and freeway access, is a beautiful stadium that could have been another Wrigley or at least a St. Louis Ballpark Village. But instead there are dozens of empty acres and 8 parking lots blighting the area, because Reinsdorf didn't and doesn't care.

This 78 project is interesting, but aside from an inaccessible road connecting downtown to Chinatown, there has been no movement whatsoever despite all kinds of proposals and fantasies.

Let the Sox go to Tennessee if it comes down to that.

Also, and MLB purists, please correct me if I'm wrong, but the stadium is not allowed to be facing that direction because the glare could affect the players. So take those images with a grain of salt.

It looks to me to be facing NE. ENE is ideal, but 22 of 30 current ballparks face between N and E. Comiskey is one of the worst offenders of the ideal. The rendering appears to make it one of the closest to ideal.

The "all stadiums must face in XYZ direction" is one helluva urban myth.  I remember hearing that as a kid.  Then the internet was invented and satellite images came along, debunking the whole thing.

I just heard some youtuber blockhead announce that "no major rivers flow north".  Somehow these old urban myths persist.

From the MLB rule book:

2.00 –THE PLAYING FIELD

2.01 Layout of the Field

It is desirable that the line from home base through the pitcher’s plate to second base shall run East-Northeast.

Interestingly, it doesn't appear to matter much as the park furthest from ENE is Atlanta's Truist Park, opened in 2018.

It was a lot easier to do with round multi-purpose stadiums, but even they didn't do it consistently.

^ Cool. I’ve done this myself when I lived in NJ. I think the placement is a bit speculative, but fun nonetheless.

true its highly unlikely its the exact spot, i mean how convenient would that be to end up as the exact street corners, right?

but indeed elysian fields was known to be around there at what is now the intersection of washington and 11th.

and of course they were playing ball in murray hill manhattan and elsewhere prior to this, including back in england, but it was all variations of rounders and widely varied rules until hoboken, which is the start of the modern baseball era.

its also interesting how football originally morphed around from other olde sports too, like gridiron and rugby. afaik the only fully original american sport is lacrosse.

Look at how the instant replay in baseball is creating as many problems as it solves.

ABS challenge system set to fully be used in Triple-A

Jesse Rogers, ESPN Staff Writer
Jun 18, 2024, 01:11 PM ET

Major League Baseball sent a memo to farm directors Tuesday indicating that beginning on June 25, all Triple-A games will use the automated ball-strike (ABS) challenge system as opposed to full ABS, which was previously used for half the week.

The move is another indication that the league is inching toward implementing the challenge system at the major league level, though commissioner Rob Manfred has said that move is still at least another season away from happening.

The White Sox are on pace for one of the worst seasons in the history of baseball.  This week they managed to match and then exceed their 14-game losing streak from earlier in the season.  Their current streak is at 17 games.

^ They are so bad, yet somehow turn into a different team against the Guardians and play us really hard.

5-5 on the season series, so far.

they're no 1962 mets.

yet ...

The reason my 2017 last place finish in my keeper league was the best thing that ever happened to my team stands a real shot of being the first 50-50 player in MLB history.

As our trading deadline approached I posted that I would talk about trading anyone 30 or over who is not Japanese.

This post is too old to edit it I guess.

Not only did he do it, but last night he produced the most insane stat line I have ever seen in sports:

stats.jpg

Judge and Ohtani are just absolute units this year. Historic performances.

God knows the world wants to see them in the World Series, and if Cleveland doesn't advance, then yeah, I'm hopping on the bandwagon for Judge and rooting for LA/NYC (ughh, I feel dirty).

Sale AND Skubal are also triple crowning. Has that ever happened? I'm sure it has, but can't think of any instances at the moment.

Sorry Witt and especially sorry Clase. Amazing performances, but the MVP and CY Young are locked for both leagues. I say skip the votes and just hand over the trophies after 162.

It's been a boring season but my god have things picked up (for Cleveland and the aforementioned studs) the last month or so.

^ if its dodgers-yankees like mlb would want i’ll grab a glass of oj to honor it before i sit down to watch. who doesn’t like a refreshing glass of JUICY oj?  😂

that said, its currently 2-1 in the 3rd via another mvp freeman 2 run tater lead, so come on dodgers keep it up pressing and give me sweep satisfaction. 🎉

a shame ohtani’s hurt tho, that ain’t right.

of course just as i post there is a yankees grand slam. just my jinxed luck. 😂

clearly mlb wants to drag out the series for the cash grab.  😂
