July 9, 20204 yr Sunnyside has always been one of my favorite neighborhoods in Queens. Flushing is a hot mess. Thanks for the shots. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 9, 20204 yr yes indeed -- sunnyside is top of the list for us for a new home at some point. very nice to see these -- you got around. especially nice as i feel like i haven't been to any of these places since you were there -- #&*@ covid !!! oh and of course i notice your refined good taste in pizza there making the pilgrimage to difaras. i hope you were able to get one from maestro dom difara, he is not around very much anymore.
July 9, 20204 yr Author Actually I did not get the pizza, now I feel dumb! My buddy and I were simply strolling through Midwood because it was a part of the city I had not visited before.

My broker will often get Di Fara when I'm down in Midwood visiting her place and she always orders extra for me to take home and it's probably the best pizza I've had in NYC.
July 9, 20204 yr difara's was easily the best in the states when dom was slinging the pies in his prime. the care that man put into each pizza was just legendary. and to watch him in action. whoa. it was next level pizza pie making. unfortunately, time marches on and he is mostly, if not now totally retired these days.
July 9, 20204 yr This brings back memories - I lived on 63rd St. in Woodside for just a few months many years ago but spent a ton of time walking around and really enjoyed the neighborhood. 61 St-Woodside was the stop I'd use to take the 7 to work in Midtown. I briefly dated a girl who lived a few stops away in Sunnyside - right on Queens Blvd. Her apartment faced the 7 train and was right at about the same height - it was loud, and I think the peak headway was something like 3 minutes.
July 9, 20204 yr This is a good example of the sort of modest apartment NYC apartment building that for whatever reasons seems to be impossible to duplicate in the modern era. BTW this one is really similar to the one on Central Parkway in Cincinnati that is being renovated right now - it's always kind of crazy how various design ideas managed to make their way around the United States back when communication was slower and materials, design firms, and banks were local.
July 15, 20204 yr ^ this building is a lot nice that that cinci pre war example tho. i'll probably be living in it or one similar soon, and i live in one more like the cinci building now, so i will let you know -- ha. i do prefer the glazed white brick apt buildings of the jet age tho -- i would love live in one of those: http://530parkcondo.com
