Hi, 

 

I am new to this forum. My husband and I recently purchased a (supposedly) 1911 farmhouse in Geneva, OH (between Youngstown and Cleveland). We are planning some remodeling, including the removal of large brick cistern (massive safety concerns) and interior brick chimney. Before we take a sledgehammer to the brickwork, is there anyone who would want it?

 

I would love to sell the bricks of course, but I doubt we will have enough intact bricks to interest anyone. I would be glad to do the work to remove it carefully and donate the bricks to a legitimate historical preservation group/non-profit - but I have been unable to locate such people/groups... Maybe they don't exist. 

 

The bricks are red and stamped with "Claycraft", which appears to be a brick maker local to the Cleveland area. I also have some large structural tiles (10) that I would be glad to donate for preservation as well.

 

Any leads would be appreciated!

Very cool. I love used brick. Back in the late 80's bricks from the demolished old creamery in Pickerington(Central Ohio)were dumped on a relative's property near Sycamore Creek. I ended up(with some help)hauling about 2,500 of them to Cbus to use as a large brick sunken patio and several brick walks. I hope you find a buyer/someone to whom to donate them.

Thanks for the encouragement! Part of me feels silly, but the other part of me thinks the bricks are pretty cool (and really the only authentic thing left in this house, since the original woodwork is gone - tears). Thanks for responding!
