September 29, 20204 yr I'm guessing it is because the quoted user gets an email/alert letting them know their post was quoted. It helps them respond quicker, keeping the discussion flowing.
September 29, 20204 yr If you are inclined to write a longer post on a fast-moving thread, several others might have responded already by the time you're finished writing. You might have started responding to the most recent post in the thread, but by the time you're finished writing, it's 4+ posts back.
