April 7, 200619 yr Awesome shots, MayDay! I loved the zoom on the second shot...you're standing at Public Square, yet Fenn Tower looks to be steps away! Also, in the photo of the Huntington Bank clock, you got my buddy Dave walking by the bus sign...he says he's going to sue for damages...you should've asked his permission! tsk tsk!

April 8, 200619 yr The 2nd picture with 12x optical zoom from public square is fantastic.. I see MidTown @ Euclid/E. 30th in this one!
April 9, 200619 yr Nice buildings and people shots. Do fellow RTA riders ever wonder aloud if you're from out of town or something, snapping pics from the bus? And, this one is truly amazing...Fenn Tower seemingly next to East 6th Street... April 9, 200619 yr MayDay, nice pics. Let me add to the chorus of cheers esp for your unusual, flattened-out 12x zoom shot of Euclid. Kinda makes you wish the street REALLY WAS that dense and compact. Btw, not to sound cynical, but were your street shots around Euclid/E. 9th during some kind of special event? It's sad to say, but given downtown's decline in recent years, as a business center, you almost have to think there's a special even going on if you see more than 2 or 3 people on the same block during the daytime (Fri and Sat nights, of course, no problemo, our streets buzz w/ activity then).
April 9, 200619 yr Great Shots!! Does anyone know the developer or have any information on the proposed 28+ story condo tower that is supposed to go on top of that new parking Garage on lower Euclid, that I think one of the pictures was taken from?
April 10, 200619 yr For more information on the proposed condo building atop the 515 Euclid parking deck, go to: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=206888 http://www.desman.com/hotproperty/task,view/id,59/Itemid,168/ The following image courtesy of MayDay, from another thread.... April 10, 200619 yr "Do fellow RTA riders ever wonder aloud if you're from out of town or something, snapping pics from the bus?" Honestly, most people don't take notice. The few that have thought I was taking pics for a class and I just shook my head in agreement (because if I engaged in conversation, I'd miss the shot). "Btw, not to sound cynical, but were your street shots around Euclid/E. 9th during some kind of special event?" Lunch. On a 45-degree day. It's sad to say, but given downtown's decline in recent years, as a business center, you almost have to think there's a special even going on if you see more than 2 or 3 people on the same block during the daytime... Having worked in downtown Cleveland for eight consecutive years, I'm happy to respectfully disagree with your assessment. I've noticed over the years that there has been an increase (albeit a modest one) of pedestrian traffic in downtown. During the day, unless weather is in the 20s or less or high winds/rain/snow (which are less frequent than you'd think), there's usually a healthy trickle of people out and about on most main arteries downtown. Certain areas have no reason to have a high pedestrian count - for example, Superior between East 9th and East 6th is comprised mostly of banking or government buildings which aren't open outside of M-F, 9-5. I'm not suggesting that downtown is bustling or that it has the healthiest pedestrian scene, but to hear you talk, it's me and a tumbleweed - that's not reality. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

April 10, 200619 yr I'm diggin' the pics and the zoom MayDay, but i can't help but think the zoom will be turned into a weapon for some evil purpose. :-o
April 10, 200619 yr The trolley....s....? "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 10, 200619 yr What is that on the front bumper of the trolley/bus? Is that netting or a chain link fence?

April 11, 200619 yr That thing is a mini "cow catcher".....if you look at some of the old school trolleys and trains...you will see what the real ones look like...but the were much larger. Those trolleys are pretty cool, but I have to agree, they should do a better job to distinguish between the two lines either with color or better signage.
April 11, 200619 yr Great. I stand (happily) corrected. Let's hope foot-traffic only keeps improving.
April 13, 200619 yr Thanks so much MayDay. People shots in a downtown maketh my urban soul happy. By the way, this zoom shot with the rising deck of the Detroit-Superior Bridge in the background is just too damn cool.... April 13, 200619 yr Most of downtown Cleveland has definitely improved since the bad old days of the 60's-80's. 1980 Today
April 13, 200619 yr ^I know things are definitely on the upswing downtown but I do wish I could go back in time-even to the dark 60s-80s- to walk around back when there were still multiple department stores and before most of the old buildings were leveled...
April 14, 200619 yr ^ I was just thinking the same thing. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
April 14, 200619 yr What is the perspective/location of that 1980 picture? I think that was taken from from the central market (now Gateway) looking toward the Old Arcade. It's kinda hard to tell.
April 14, 200619 yr oh, I can see it now! We're standing roughly where the Q is now, looking at the building that Flannery's now occupies. The Arcade looks like it's right there, but it's actually visible through the block. Is that right?
April 14, 200619 yr More precisely, I think the 1980 photo is taken right out in front of what used to be the downtown Ferris Steakhouse (can't recall what, if anything, it is now), but it's definitely looking north towards E.4th/Prospect (and beyond). Given the lack of demand for those giant gateway parking decks, it's kind of a bummer that they built that deck at the southern end of E. 4th street- they knocked down some pretty cool old buildings for it...
April 15, 200619 yr Plus, on the right side of that photo, that's all the surface parking -- right up to Prospect and east into the 600 block. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
