June 9, 20232 yr If you're going to fake a second story, why not just put a second story? I'd have been annoyed but a proper 2 story with this style and a corner entrance would have been just enough to meet the bare minimum. Or why not have 2 entrances like the CVS at High and Dodridge? Blargh...

Blargh... This looks horrible and the developers should be ashamed about this s**t. There is no reason this couldn’t have been a 4-5 story with the cvs on the ground floor. I’m sure the lucky’s building will look just about the same.
June 9, 20232 yr Why in the world is the entrance not on the corner? Uptown Westerville's CVS does a better job. And no drive thru!

June 10, 20232 yr It's pretty bad that there's not a door on the corner but I'll bet it has more to do with CVS's demands than Casto. Doesn't CVS keep the High and Dodridge door locked most of the time?

June 13, 20232 yr The Thurber Village redevelopment continues to move along at a very nice pace. I was kind of surprised tonight to see the residential portion of the site this far along

July 8, 20231 yr From earlier this week: Works [sic] moves ahead on new Victorian Village grocery store “Work has begun on the new Lucky's Market store in Victorian Village, a key part of the redevelopment of the Thurber Village center at Neil and Buttles avenues. The 21,000-square-foot Lucky's will bring a grocery store back to the center, which for years housed a Giant Eagle. A steel frame is up for the Lucky's store, which is expected to open in the summer of 2024, offering fresh produce, meat and deli departments, hot made-to-order sandwiches and prepared foods to-go, beer and wine, and "an extensive variety of healthy living products including vitamins, supplements, and body care," according to the Bedford, Ohio-based chain. As work proceeds on Lucky's, the CVS store is close to opening and work is well underway on the apartment portion of the project.“ https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2023/07/05/work-moves-forward-on-major-victorian-village-development/70379108007/

February 22, 20241 yr 12 minutes ago, 614love said: Really wish this was all one big structure I agree, but only if they broke up the massing a bit. I think if it was all one big building with one solid design, it would have looked terrible. The Thurber Dr side should have also been condo units that looked like the rest of the houses in the area. Edited February 22, 20241 yr by VintageLife
February 22, 20241 yr The apartments are all one big building. They share a podium. If anything, the old apartments across Thurber Dr should be redeveloped. They're 60's and 70's suburban style apartments. If you meant the Buttles side - I agree that they should've mimicked the older houses.

It’s just such a bad development for a dense neighborhood and should have never been approved. It’s sad that a bunch of senior living housing is a better build than “luxury” “mixed used” housing. You are also right that those apartments behind this should all be redeveloped. That is a huge waste of space because of the design.
February 25, 20241 yr Had a few extra minutes on my way to the Ice Haus yesterday so I snatched a few quick ones from Thurber Village
May 13, 20241 yr Lucky's opens on the 17th (5-3-24) The frontage along Neil turned out better than I thought it would.
May 13, 20241 yr Get a peek inside Lucky's Market, opening in Victorian Village this week A highly anticipated grocery is ready to welcome shoppers. Lucky’s Market will open at 747 Neil Ave. in Victorian Village May 17. Lucky’s Market committed to developer Casto’s Thurber Village project in 2022. Brothers Aaron Saltzman and David Saltzman, both last week and in previous interviews, said they are excited to be part of the neighborhood and they jumped on the opportunity when Casto reached out to them. Their family owns Dave’s Supermarkets in Cleveland and acquired the Lucky’s Market brand in Ohio in 2020. May 14, 20241 yr And, uh, more. First Look: Lucky’s Market Opens this Week in Victorian Village By the end of the week, Victorian Village will once again have a grocery store. Lucky’s Market opens its second area location this Friday, May 17 at 747 Neil Ave. The new store is part of Casto’s redevelopment of the Thurber Village retail plaza, which was previously anchored by Giant Eagle and CVS. CVS is back, sharing a parking lot with Lucky’s. The two stores now front Neil Avenue, with a five-story apartment building under construction on the western portion of the site. “The Casto team came to us with the opportunity, and when they brought it to us and shared the location, the area and what it was, it immediately excited us,” says Aaron Saltzman of Lucky’s. I lived around the corner during my days in Columbus. The loss of the Giant Eagle was a huge bummer for that beautiful neighborhood. Lucky’s is a great store too. I will have to come and visit soon. There was a lot of talk at the time that Giant Eagle would never let it go to a competitor. Glad that ended up being false. Edited May 14, 20241 yr by mu2010
