CLEVELAND UrbanOhio 2021 meet up - times?

Featured Replies

Posted

Hey fellow Clevelanders and residents of northeast Ohio - it would be great to do a meet up again and I’d prefer to not wait all the way until SHW groundbreaking. Can we get something together sooner? Probably Mon/Tues/Fridays work best for me around lunchtime, but it’ll be entirely dependent on my meeting schedule. Happy hour I could make work about any day. Where would we want to meet? Last time was Market at 1801 East 9th, that worked well. (No idea if they survived the pandemic.)

Anyway, hope to see many of you soon. @MayDay @KJP  @tykaps  @GISguy @MuRrAy HiLL @X @mack34 @urbanetics_    and if we’re really lucky again @ColDayMan

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

How about Azure at The 9?

Sauce the City Food Hall in Ohio City (W 25th and Detroit)? Easily can accommodate a large group and the food is great with plenty of options.

Also, assuming you are medically able to, please only come if you’re fully vaccinated. (I wish that was a given.)

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

If we go with Sauce the City, might wait until after Aug. 8 when the Red Line between downtown and Ohio City reopens.

I'd definitely prefer to stick downtown if possible. But I'm sure I can make whatever work...

Since we need to accommodate a large group without reservations at lunch downtown and Market has closed, my next best suggestion is we just go when there's food trucks downtown like Walnut Wednesdays or Memorial Mondays.

Thoughts? And how soon do people wanna go?

Could also do an after work at like Masthead? Lol either way looking forward to catching up! Should prob look extra dorky and wear some name tags hahaha

I'm actually curious as to what the rest of you decide upon.
I'm hosting/organizing a bridge tour of Cleveland at the end of this month, and I'm not sure where I'm going to send my friends for a Saturday lunch. I may well follow what you all decide upon.

I come back from vacation and there's no chat about this for almost a week? Is there interest in a Cleveland meet-up?

I'll throw this out there --- this Friday at noon. Now, for a location......how about the central food area at the 5th Street Arcade (would require someone getting there before noon and holding a few tables)? Or just go with Addy's?

Thanks for pushing, Ken. I’m up for this Friday. I’m a little concerned that the short notice might hurt attendance.  Would next Friday (8/27) be an option?

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

Good idea. Is that doable for others?

8/27 at noon works for me.

I've heard from others off-forum as well.

Let's go with 5th Street Arcade (center food court) at 12 noon on Aug. 27. Put on your schedule. I'll see you all there!

Looking forward to seeing everyone next Friday, even it's just me, Ken, and Tyler.

Hope to see you there @GISguy@MuRrAy HiLL@X@mack34@urbanetics_  @ColDayMan@richNcincy@Magyar @Cleburger  @urb-a-saurus @Foraker  @Htsguy @YABO713 @NorthShore647 @LlamaLawyer  @Mendo   @nammoumj  @Pugu  @roman totale XVII  @KFM44107  @PoshSteve  @inlovewithCLE  @Ethan @CleveFan and anyone else who decides to join us.  (Just tagging a bunch of people in the hopes of driving some additional attendance...)

Also, I have a conference call that morning 10-noon. Any suggestions on where to find a quiet place to take that call nearby?

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

I can't do Fridays, unfortunately.  But have fun everybody!

I live in the NY area but appreciate the notice  - it sounds fantastic

if there is someone who is not a forum regular, but very interested in coming by - is the invite open?

I suppose if they nerd out on urban development and transit they’ll fit right in.

I will be out of town that week but I appreciate the invite. I hope everyone has fun. Stay safe.

Thanks for the tag, going to get this in my calendar and I'll plan on being there!

As far as a conference call- if you don't need a ton of room to spread out the area by the kitch/bat/wood shop and Intro has a couple tables and it's usually pretty quiet when I'm eating lunch there. The Arcade across the street doesn't have tables up yet, otherwise that'd probably be a decent bet too.

I can't make it, but I hope everyone has a great time! I really appreciate all of you and this forum.

I've been telling myself for a couple years I need to make it to one of these. I'm 90% sure I'll be able to make it unless something comes up at work. I haven't driven downtown in years now (the east side rapids being shut down is killing me), does anyone recommend a good parking spot that takes cards?

(disappointed @KFM44107won't be making it)

Thanks for the call-out Boomerang_Brian! I'd love to attend but as of now, I am scheduled to be in Chicago for work next week. If my schedule changes, though, I'll be there. Otherwise, have fun everyone and I hope to make the next one.

Try parking in the deck next to the City Club Building or in the 515 Euclid deck (below the Beacon tower). There are also a limited number of 1-hour free spaces along that stretch of Euclid but they're tough to get.

See you in an hour!

I've got a table for 12 in the center food court.

Seven.  But it was a jolly bunch indeed!  Almost entirely heavy posters and it was sociopath free, at least as far as I could tell.  Look forward to seeing you at the next one in the Burke Lakefront Terminal, assuming you can get us in.

Likewise! Was nice meeting everyone today, glad I could make it this time!

It's always open.  Not much there for lunchtime fun except the women's air and space museum and vending machines.

Good seeing all of you! Looking forward to the next one.

So do we want to celebrate the SHW groundbreaking at 5-8 pm Dec. 15 with lunch before that event or happy hour/dinner during it? I'm still thinking Taza on West 6th.

I would vote for happy hour/dinner since I might actually be in town for one of these!

My vote is happy hour/dinner. Working.

I’m in for happy hour / dinner. Not available for lunch that day.

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

Ah bummer, I've got a meeting around Happy Hour. Enjoy! If anyone's wandering around during the day maybe I'll run into someone haha

Sounds like we're leaning toward a dinner/happy hour meeting. If there's no objections, on Monday I'll reserve a table for 10 at 6 p.m. Dec. 15 at Taza.

Quite frankly I am of the opinion that forum members should be invited into the catering tent after the ceremony for dinner.  In fact they should be seated at the head table.  I doubt any group of Clevelanders other than SHW personnel know more about the project or have promoted and discussed it as much as us nerds on UrbanOhio.  And this would give SHW the perfect opportunity to have @KJParrested.

🎵 It's like getting arraigned on your groundbreaking day 🎵

I don't mean to arraign on your parade...

But I reserved a table for 12 at Taza at 6 pm Dec. 15 under the name "Ken/UrbanOhio."

See you all then/there!

I will be there

I will also be there.   Looking forward to finally meeting some UO folks after years on this site.
