I spent a couple weeks of July in Milwaukee for work.  I was curious to check out Couture - the residential high rise built on a streetcar and BRT multi-modal station downtown that has FINALLY broken ground.  The project was original proposed in 2012, so perhaps that will give us some hope on long ago proposed projects here in Ohio.

The streetcar will have a station in the podium of this building.  It has been an ongoing issue because the rest of that loop has been completed for a couple of years, but they can't run streetcars on it because the tracks just stop on either side of this site.

Just south of the building (site is on the left beyond that parking sign):

I caught the streetcar (on the main route) a couple times while I was there.  I really like how they have a nice vertical bike-rack right in the car.  (The owner of the bike did NOT like that I took a picture of his bike. I told him I was taking a picture of the rack not his bike. Fortunately the person he was with talked him down a bit.)

Couture's neighbors include the US Bank building (at 601', MKE's tallest) and the new-ish Pickard Chilton designed Northwestern Mutual headquarters:

As a part of its new headquarters master plan, Northwestern Mutual commissioned the 35 story 7Seventy7 luxury apartment building nearby.  (Love this idea - paging Sherwin Williams.)  Here's the top:

Looks like those FoxConn efforts are really paying off (/sarcasm):

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra recently move into its own new home - the renovated Warner Grand Theater.  Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation) heirs gave a big chunk of money in support, so the hall carries the Bradley name.

As luck would have it, the Milwaukee Bucks won an NBA championship while I was town.  I went and walked around the new Fiserv (not Pfizer) Forum during Game 6 (when they finished it off).  The somewhat new ownership group are real estate developers and they are pursuing developments around the facility.  (The city has been trying to convince the owners to put in some money towards extending the streetcar to the arena, but so far the owners haven't contributed.)  Night pictures on an iPhone aren't the best, but it'll give you a feel for the facility and the festivities of the evening.

And that's my photo report from The Good Land.

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

I adore Milwaukee.

I was in Milwaukee for work a couple of years ago and I was mightily impressed with their downtown and surrounding areas.

Great pics of a great Great Lakes city.

Milwaukee's almost-finished 25-story Ascent, built with mass timber like Cleveland's INTRO in Ohio City.
