I'm so excited about this project. It might just be my favorite. This is a HUGE missing link along Euclid that will drastically change the atmosphere once it's finished.

I moved here about three years ago, between this and CAC/Athlon its crazy how great this is. Like, plastic fluttering in the wind/vacant goliaths were such a bad look for a downtown...so glad it'll be a thing of the past in the very near future!!

Whatever they are doing, it is working!   EDIT: I just went back to compare to my past photos and I did not realize just how MUCH this worked. What a change. I wonder what this brown stuff i

Same, I just moved into Halle last week....walking down Euclid ave right now its fun to imagine what its going to look like from Lumen to Playhouse Square!  Good bye plastic bags in windows!!

I love seeing everyone flock into downtown again! The next few years are going to be fun. I'm also getting an apartment (hopefully at the Beacon) after I graduate from CSU in May.

Would have been slightly more interesting if restoration would have gone back to ORIGINAL dates, but I realize trying to duplicate those would require still more time and moneys, so I'm thrilled the Beaux-Arts look of the '20s will one more grace this section of The Avenue.....

When is project completion currently anticipated?

Sure wish the Athletic Club would have done the same. Everyone who lives in PHS must walk in the street around the barricades to get to and from Heinen’s.

In Chicago last fall I noted every construction project allowed pedestrians a sidewalk.  Also, I didn't see a single push-button "walk" signal.  I was in many districts.

Nothing really new, I'll try and take pics monthly or something to keep tabs on progress.

Sorry for the not so great angle but noticed just now they are taking off the panels from the easternmost building! IMG_0237.thumb.JPG.ae29cf7799f92fd49e88630334e54bce.JPGIMG_0238.thumb.JPG.cbe399ec56fb732ba7201487fe6fd5c0.JPG

Great, because those are beyond atrocious.  I cannot wait to see the fresh facade.

^ I probably walked right passed you.

Well, if you walk past someone taking pictures of a building under construction, chances are they hang out here.

I was watching them take panels down today...Those windows will be huge!!!  This is going to really change that section of Euclid!!!

Wow that is some large windows in the middle.

Was there ever any historic facade before the glass ?

Great to see some real progress on this eyesore, slowly but surely.

Appears to be in this photo from the historic photos thread:

Euclid Block.jpg

I don't think the windows in tge most eastern bldg. will be that large.  Drawings show five windows across.

^Unless someone has numbers that contradict my opinion... the foot traffic on Euclid between 9th and 12th is NOT low. There is an almost constant flow of people - especially in the summer.

Some updates.... they blew out the fronts on two of the buildings!

I just searched 'timeline' on the forum and didn't come up with anything [admittedly half-assed searching on my part], when do they expect this project to be complete?

sign out front says 2020

They’ve been pumping concrete into there every day for the last month or so through the back alley.

I'll take anything that revives downtown retail life....

And we’ve got another building front opened up!

I can't wait to see what retail goes in there. Could help make Euclid Cleveland's version of Chicago's Magnificent Mile.

The Statler has a few long dormant retail spots that are going live as well. The whole first floor inside facing Euclid is getting demo’d currently.  One large space, 3 smaller ones. Copper Moon coffee shop took the first small spot.

I am really impressed with how quickly they seem to restoring the middle two sections of the building... they've already been cleaned and seem to be restoring the detailing that was damaged.  Looks great!

I like that elevated scaffolding unit. I don't think I've seen that used here before.

My buddy James is the proprietor of Copper Moon. He recently moved the shop to the street front space from the lobby of Statler Arms. Helluva good cuppa joe!

^I'm surprised they are removing that storefront. It is nice cut stone that would look sharp with a bath.

^Don't the credits require restoration (or recreation) of the historic facade?

They re adding another level of Windows.......

No, the credits wouldn't require anything to be changed. But if the developer does elect to make changes, the design must meet federal rehabilitation standards.

Ah, okay.

Ah, got it. In this case, a previous owner (and original credit applicant, I believe) ripped off the post-war skin installed on half the building and the developer plans to restore the facade of the whole thing to what it looked like before modernization (though still not the original facade).

^ That tour of Euclid Ave in 2008 is a wonderful reminder of how far things have come. It’s also a useful reminder of what the average Cleveland.com poster has in their head when spouting their logorrhea about downtown.

When you check out this link, make sure to also rotate the view around and remind yourself of the barf-tastic "modernization" of what has now been lovingly restored as the Kimpton Schofield (southwest corner of East 9th and Euclid).  Even uglier than the old JHB, and much larger and more prominent.  It's just stunning that anyone ever thought that was an improvement.

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

Wow that area is completely different!  It looked so desolate there back then :(

And here's the comparison from 2018. An amazing transformation in a relatively short time frame
