Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand

Featured Replies

It's just unbelievable how much grit and grime has collected on those buildings over the past century!  The unrefurbished rears of the buildings are jet black, whereas the front facades represent the buildings' original stone color. Amazing!

Nucleus may even sneak into that vantage point if it’s ever built.

Does anyone have any current pictures of this add-on that was recently started.

Such a fascinating history to the block. It was a shame that The Stillman theatre was demolished for the Statler garage. And this is what was demolished for the Stillman Theatre.

I wish some architects would dig up the plans for some of these old buildings and reproduce the buildings. Retain as much of the outer appearance and inner layout as possible while accommodating modern needs (and designing for eventual re-use as needs change so that buildings are not torn down!)

Here's where these plans would exist: https://www.cleveland.com/cityhall/2020/01/martin-hauser-has-made-a-career-as-the-keeper-of-clevelands-history-documenting-city-government-and-life-of-the-people.html

This two story penthouse adder is such a pleasant surprise.  To not only get the complete, gorgeous renovation, but also tack on some more luxury units....bravo, bravo

Is this a two-story addition or one-story? To me it looks like a one story addition, with higher ceilings.

Agreed - I think it's going to be a penthouse with 15-20 foot ceilings

Signage plan for the Euclid Grand

I'm 50/50 based on the rendering, but also, thinking about looking down Euclid towards PHQ this would be a cool piece of the gateway from E9. Thanks @tykaps.

Not a fan of the design. It'd also be super annoying to stay in one of those rooms and have that thing shining bright right outside at night.

I love blade marquees done right.

I like the blade sign idea but yeesh I am not a fan of this logo/font choice...  I am concerned about the retail space.  We have all of this, plus the Statler has some, there is some on the opposite side of Euclid, there is the CAC (if you assume that very questionable-looking car showroom is temporary), Schofield corner, and upcoming Centennial, plus there is the Sterling building which recently landed Chase but still has other empty storefronts.  Hopefully the additional population those properties will bring will mean actual tenants!

The design is questionable, but as far as the light pollution, it’s amazing what a good silk dupioni window treatment will do.

Oh boy I learned a new word today.  Thanks google (and MayDay)?

Do we know when these are supposed to be done?

It looks like the 925 building was power washed. Does anyone know if that's true or is it just an optical allusion?

The later.   Actually I just think it is not as dirty as everybody claims.

I also think that if it was power washed, this is not a projected that would have gone unnoticed.  It is quite the undertaking!

Upthread are before and after photos, including the rear that was not cleaned. The last building however needs additional attention.

The difference is astonishing.

For a project that was in so much financial hell and had so many false promises, this redevelopment is as good as you can ask for. This is one of my favorite projects going on in the city.

Agree with you...

However, who they land as retail tenants will really be indicative of the momentum of downtown, imo. If a freaking Dollar Tree goes in there, we're donezo. If its a nice retailer or local merchant(s), we're golden.

Actually, I wouldn't mind a Dollar Store going in downtown, perhaps in this project. It would add a lot of foot traffic here and provide some basic necessities for downtown living that no store, apart from A Dollar at Tower City, offers.

Wait, disregard that. I think I just risked turning this thread into another hopeless downtown retail debate. ?

Lol - ANYWAYS, I love the black windows they've installed

Wow!  I keep forgetting that section with the beautiful arched windows was covered up.

Euclid Ave looked like the world ended back then!

How much of this facade is new?

Construction’s really coming along!!

I’m so excited for these to be completed. The Euclid Avenue corridor is being transformed from a row of neglected, abandoned buildings into vibrant, beautifully restored collection of historic icons.

They've really done a beautiful job. I was worried this would be gimmicky, but it looks first class

As someone mentioned upthread, with these restorations, this little stretch of Euclid has a very European (Paris or London) feel to it.

Only in London, each of those sections would be its own townhome!

But you're absolutely right

What a stunning transformation.

I haven’t seen anyone post any interior/unit renderings yet and was curious, so ended up finding some on Euclid Grand’s Facebook as well as apartments.com.

This is going to be quite the place!! And check out all the amenities!

Wow that is really nice... LOVE the outdoor space.  I live at the Halle Building and while I love the units, the huge windows and the location I WISH so badly they would've designed outdoor space on the roof.  All the nearby buildings have rooftops (CAC, Statler, and soon to be JHB)

If downtown keeps producing wonderful living options  like this,  I think the goal of 30,000 residents by 2030 will be rather easily met. Great graphics from Euclid Grand there!

They’re power-washing the western-most facade today and it appears to be working!
