Oh, my... just passed by this giant Five Iron Golf space at 7:15 on a Friday - and I literally believe not a single customer was there. None. Workers were playing on rhe suimulators. They need to get the word out.

could part of the problem be that it is summer and real golf is available.  There is a similar facility near me which has been open about 2 years now and the parking lot is packed during cooler weather months but not so much in the summer.

Whatever they are doing, it is working!   EDIT: I just went back to compare to my past photos and I did not realize just how MUCH this worked. What a change. I wonder what this brown stuff i

They have zero street presence. Despite the space being filled out like it is you would have no idea from just walking by. They need to do something to activate out front.

their lack of street presence is actually astonishing. especially since it's a chain

it might be the worst opening of a business...ever!

Is there a way to contact them to give some advice? I will gladly send an email.

It’s very “walled off”… most of the windows do not show into the interior. I wish they would’ve had some garage style doors that opened… definitely needs some street presence. Really strange.

Walked by last night after seeing SIX at the Palace and got a proper look inside for the first time. There were two people in there.

I went in there before it was opened and they described it as the "Top Golf of Virtual golf"  I'm not sure if its arrogance or stupidity, but this place won't last 6 months.  And the only way I knew they had a "soft open" was from a window washer outside.  All very odd

Yeah lol I walked by one day and the one dude was hanging outside the door with a golf club, yeah, sure.

they have a whiteboard in

one of the windows now saying 50% off.

You'd think with a bar you could have some outside seating. Idk if they're local or not but it's about to get reaaaal desolate in the wintertime - the only way you'll know something is in there is because it'll (hopefully) be shoveled.

Weren’t they opening or already open in other urban locations ? I wonder what they’re like

Yup....Its a chain.  And they told me this location is one of the biggest sq ft they opened.  I'm legit baffled how they think this will work when no one knows its open

Just checked their site - Baltimore, Washington, Chicago

We won't be laughing at them when they close up shop and downtown is left with another empty store front(s).

I was just in NYC this last weekend and there was one a couple of blocks from my hotel, on 6th Ave. It seemed busy the 2-3 times I walked by and paid attention to it.
EDIT: I should point out that this location also had little street presence. Kinda buried inside a hotel lobby. The only reason I even noticed it was I saw a staff member walk out with a branded polo on that caught my eye.

Like everyone else on here, it want it to succeed. I’m a sucker for patronizing every new place downtown at least the once. I’ll for sure check out this for something to eat and drink, but I’ve absolutely zero interest whatsoever in golf.

Well, I suppose anything in NYC has a good chance of being busy.

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing there are not many golfers living downtown.  I wonder if it would have been better to locate closer to Progressive Field/RMFH where more sports enthusiasts are likely to be hanging out before and after sporting events.

Though too large for the space - If this were, say, in a currently vacant space lime  the former Chocolate Bar spot, adjacent to E 4th-on Euclid - where sports fans and concert goers, etc... gather -  You'd be talking about an already busier spot. (Corner Alley seems to have held its own for a dozen+ years...)

On the positive side... they are only 1 month past opening. Turnarounds can happen.

This was tried before, in 2010, with Caddyshack at the base of 668 where Zanzibar is now.  So basically in the heart of gateway. Granted, the only nearby residences were E. 4th, 668, Statler, Chesterfield, and Huron/Osborn.  However, there were MANY more daily office workers downtown. But as far as golf simulator patrons went, it was not very utilized, and I imagine most of the income came from the bar (at least that was my experience being in there alot since I lived two floors above it).  It closed after a year or two.

It's not our fault that they're terrible at marketing and have made little if any effort to promote themselves/their space.

We won't even be able to tell if it's open or not based on their street presence.

Hey, marketing now in full swing - I got an Instagram ad for 20% off on a holiday party at Five Iron... showing a Five Iron video packed with partying patrons.

But it's got to make it to the holiday...

Curious how they're Detroit, Indy and Cincy locations perform.  They're also downtown.  I'll be honest, I didn't know the CLE location existed, and I like to golf.

@GISguyyeah it's not our fault that they're terrible at marketing themselves but that's just the sizzle (or lack of). The actual steak is whether they make it or not because there doesn't seem to be alot of companies lining up to take their place.

So sure, it's not our fault but l'm still not laughing.

When retail in downtown has been dead for decades, I start to blame the people instead of the businesses. NEO resolves around the car centric burbs like Strongsville, Independence, Mentor, etc, much more compared to other metros like Cinci. If this place was placed in one of those mentioned cities, it would be thriving.

I doubt it. golf simulators are on the back end of a fad. it's like opening an escape room or axe throwing place today.

out-dated concept that's poorly executed. announced an opening 2 years before they started operations, decals of random shapes blocking the windows and no sign of life from the outside.

WKYC did a segment on Five Iron during their 7 pm newscast last night. Perhaps that will drum up some business for them.

Looks like furniture is being moved into the one remaining retail space today. Anyone know anything?

No permit applications have been submitted for anything. There was a Jan. 2 report of fire damage. It was marked by Building & Housing as "routine."
