Posted January 13, 20223 yr Figure it wouldn't hurt to start a thread for this and keep all the exec discussion in one topic. Currently declared: Chris Ronayne (D), former President of University Circle (2005-2021) Brad Sellers (D), mayor of Warrensville Heights (2012-Present) Lee Weingart (R), former Cuyahoga County Commissioner (1995-1997)
January 13, 20223 yr The prospect of a Bibb/Ronayne power combo has me very bullish on the region's future.
January 15, 20223 yr Guessing that Sellers came to the realization that having multiple large late back tax payment issues and signing the legislation as mayor that granted himself tax abatement on his property wasn't going to play over very well with the voters.
January 15, 20223 yr Well that didn’t take long. How p*ssed is Annette Blackwell right now? I do think she would have been good, but I’m definitely voting for Ronayne - very excited to get him into office. He’s been awesome in University Circle. When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

By no means too late for her to get back into it. I way prefer her over Ronayne, who still has Calamity Jane taint and with UC hasn't dealt as much with the recalcitrant as Blackwell has. She's done a good job in Maple Heights, crime is still a problem but with felonies and juveniles that's really a county court issue. I'll likely still vote for Weingart, but I may vote for her even against him. No way do I vote for Ronayne.

January 19, 20223 yr Fascinating & infuriating. All to keep the best Democratic candidate out of office. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
January 20, 20223 yr The "best" candidate for county executive is someone who has large tax bills go unpaid to the tune of nearly $16,000 and finally gets things paid up is when he is ready to file the campaign. In addition, this "best" candidate signs the legislation that grants him a tax abatement. Amazing. All this county needs is another scandal of its leadership. Hasn't there been enough of these "outstanding" candidates who cannot keep their own situations clean, are inept, incapable of management or outright thieves? It has been decades of scandals. The names change and the nature of the scandals are different, but in the end is more of the same. Inept and corrupt leadership for the county is helping to drive down the county. At least in case of Sellers, this comes to light before the campaign season ramps up or even worse, gets discovered after he could have reached office. If this is what the "best" candidate has to bring to the table, don't want to know what the lesser and worst candidates have. Edited January 20, 20223 yr by LifeLongClevelander

May 4, 20223 yr Author Chris is the winner in the dem election (66-34%), pretty surprising that Tariq got as many votes as he did (~23k). After a bunch of failed campaigns at this point, maybe he'll stop running for office?

Yes. All door boarding with proof of payment please. I can't believe how much RTA has degraded what was the best BRT in the country when it was built.
October 14, 20222 yr Author This was a really well put together forum. Props to Bike Cle and CPT for facilitating.

This is a reason to vote Republicans out of the state legislature, not a reason to vote *for* Weingart...

November 12, 20222 yr Not a Ronayne fan because of his ties to Calamity Jane, and first impressions suggesting that he has an overly expansive concept of the county's authority. But I've said for quite some time that the position should be appointed by the county council, and it's certainly easy to imagine this council (yech) picking him. Besides, almost anything is better than Budish, who epically proved the point that legislative experience does not translate to executive. Edited November 12, 20222 yr by E Rocc

November 12, 20222 yr I like Ronayne's view of his authority; his opponent was no shrinking violet, either.. The county needs a much stronger hand in coordination of the herd of cats the area is pleased to call cities. A place to start: more and more I'm convinced East Cleveland needs a much bigger county role in its management. Remember: It's the Year of the Snake
