Democrats used the filibuster over 300 times during the Trump Administration, you must have been seething.

I'm not a fan of the filibuster.  But using the filibuster to block legislation to help veterans who suffered in burn pits is a serious low that goes beyond "but the Democrats."

Chew on that as long as you have to when the GOP pretends to care about veterans.

In all fairness to the GOP, reconciliation is a chicken sh*t way to get a bill passes. Someday soon we'll be thanking the GOP for standing to the "climate agenda" scam which will only impoverish Americans while rewarding the billionaires and further empowering China, who make 80% of the solar panels.

Really.  "in all fairness to the GOP"...you mean the party that used reconciliation to pass a huge tax break for the wealthy.

But the politics are pertinent to this topic. One political party has decided to play politics instead of supporting legislation to on shore jobs to America. and also to support burn pit victims. Real pro-business and pro-life stuff.

Can we just get @freefoururout of here?  He isn't a Columbus forumer and he didn't come here for any other reason than to make inflammatory political comments.

The situation is inherently political, yes. But, yourself and others have already proved to be incapable of discussing the topic without resorting to childish political arguing and insulting. It doesn't add any value to the conversation here whatsoever and will certainly lead to all out keyboard war that will get this thread locked down. Anyone who's spent more than five minutes on the internet can see that coming, so let's just stop the obnoxious arguing and insulting now.

This topic is about Intel's project in the state of Ohio which depends on action by the Federal Congress.  If anything i am posting is inaccurate please feel free to correct me.  But the fact is that, the GOP are whipping against this legislation and it can have a serious impact on Columbus and the State of Ohio. I'm sorry if those facts make you want to cancel me.

It's the way you go about discussion.  I'd love to talk about it.  But, I think the situation is probably a little more complicated than "evil Republicans hate America", but that's the only thing you came here to say.  I'd like to actually hear opinions on why they have changed like this, because I honestly don't know.  People keep bringing up climate change.  I'm unsure what that has to do with the CHIPS act getting passed.  Did Democrats add climate change stuff to the bill or what?

"the GOP was willing to own the libs rather than passing important legislation"

"Now House GOP is whipping against just to own the libs. This is not a serious governing party. "

"Chew on that as long as you have to when the GOP pretends to care about veterans. "

It's statements like these that are completely unnecessary, yet you make them to rile up the other side in an attempt to score pointless rhetorical internet points. Then, people like @John7165 take the bait and make their own unnecessary quips because they feel the need to defend their side, and we end up with a pointless political bickering session that eventually results in a locked thread.

The GOP would only support the CHIPS act in the Senate if Democrats would not pass climate change legislation in the Senate. Manchin had stated a while back that wasn't supporting the the climate bill.  Subsequently, CHIPS passed on a bipartisn basis in the Senate. In the meantime Schumer was negotiating a climate bill with Manchin.  Manchin stated his support for the climate after CHIPs got Senate approval.  The GOP in the House are now starting to whip against the bill because they are mad about a separate piece of legislation. Unrelated, they also filibustered a bill to help veterans injured from burn pits and Agent Orange. So in a way, yes they are only doing this because they are mad at Democrats. That's the low down.

In fairness, a lot of that was my reaction to @john7165 and I could be more tactful in some comments.  But the truth is that the GOP is trying to block important legislation for Ohio and the Columbus area because they are mad at Democrats.

Once CHIPS got through the Senate, Manchin and Schumer  came to an agreement on the Build Back Better bill, which has a lot of climate change and green energy money allocated in it.  Mitch McConnell was holding CHIPS hostage as a way to prevent the passage of the Build Back Better bill and now that CHIPs passed the Senate the GOP is out of ways to stop CHIPS and use it as leverage against Build Back Better.  It's basically politicians politicking.

See, this is just reductionist child-like nonsense that leads to jabs from the other side. The politicians are politicking, just like they always do. Your side does it. @John7165's side does. Everyone's side does. That's how the legislative process currently works here. The legislatures are working to pass/stop legislation based on what their constituents will generally support. It's not one group being mad at the other, or anyone trying "own" anyone. It's literally just politicians doing their job.

Saying that the GOP is trying to block CHIPS because they are mad at Democrats is not reductionist. It is quite literally what is happening. So I'm not sure why you are coming in here with your barbs while pretending to be above the fray.

Ok, I'm not going to continue debating this. I think we've collectively laid out the situation as it relates to the CHIPS Act and effect on the Intel development, so let's move on. I didn't want to see a giant political argument break out and shut down thread which is why I jumped in, and I think we've avoided that so that's all that matters.

@CbusOrBustget on it!

No more politics in this thread other than any new specific info! This is a development thread-take the politics of the bill, etc. and discuss that in the politics section of the forum.

So anyway, any news, pics, rumors etc???

Once the bill passes(assuming it does and all) and we know for sure the billions are coming, I think the rest of the "boom" will really start to take place. And we are going to need housing and hopefully some downtown residential towers dammit! lol.

Like others have stated, when it comes to this I am greedy and want every. possible. benefit. for Central Ohio!!!

I have to take 161 east from 270 to get to work, so as excited as I am for this boom to happen, I'm really not looking forward to a massive increase in traffic. I'm such a NIMBY, lol.

FABulous news! Can't wait to see the ripple effect through Central and all of Ohio!

Cool, it passed.  Now, we can stop bickering about stupid things and go back to bickering about really important things, like how this means Central Ohio is clearly the best.

Well it is ok to be a bit pissed about the traffic and housing prices(except if you own anywhere near there-then congrats!)...as long as you direct any effort at, ya know, us building more transit or housing of all types(including downtown residential towers, just sayin) which we need, instead of just trying to stop progress, right?

Intel's Impact: Water and sewer deal means Columbus draws from New Albany's windfall

A water and sewer agreement Columbus City Council approved this week means the city will tap into New Albany's economic bounty from Intel Corp. and surrounding development.

In addition to private users paying their utility bills, New Albany will pay as much as $10.5 million to Columbus as land is developed in its expanded industrial park and share 26% of new income tax revenue.

Columbus will focus that money on priorities including affordable housing, human services, small businesses and workforce development, said council member Nick Bankston, who leads the economic development committee that shepherded the deal.

"To be able to invest back in our neighborhoods and services and our people is a win-win for the city of Columbus, but it also shows the strength of the Columbus region," Bankston said in an interview. "We’re thinking as a region, not just as municipalities. ... Whenever we can have opportunities to share in major projects like this, it helps everyone."

Not sure if anyone has heard the news yet, but Intel reported horrendous earnings last night. As a result, they’re cutting $4b from their fab buildout plan to boost dividends. This news has made me question if they’ll actually finish 2 fabs let alone 8-10. Very turbulent times ahead at Intel…

I would assume that’s until they get the first one running and generating revenue. Global supply chains still suck and we need a friendly country to buy the mines here that were allowed to be sold to China.

What a weird and kind of insulting article.

Here's the full quote from the earning call (emphasis added)

Quote

For net capex, we're revising down our forecast to $23 billion, $4 billion less than our previous guidance as we moderately adjust our investment in capacity and take advantage of potentially larger than originally forecast capital assets, highlighting significant progress on our smart capital strategy. We expect these actions to offset lower than originally forecast operating cash flow, allowing us to reaffirm adjusted free cash flow of negative $1 billion to negative $2 billion for the year.

And here's a quote from later on in the earning call (emphasis added).

Quote

Good question. So important thing is that when you look at growth capex, it's about 25% of the reduction. About 75% of the reduction is actually increased capital offset. So it's not a significant adjustment to the growth number.

It's almost entirely on the equipment side, the reduction, and some of it is just timing of receipts of equipment. And sorry, Joe, what was the other part of your question?

So a 75% of this $4 billion "reduction" is just accounting magic. They're only actually cutting $1 bil. company wide, and we have no idea whether any of those cuts relate to Ohio fabs. Within the $1 bil., a lot of the "reduction" is actually just a delay in equipment delivery.

Intel is being offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to take advantage of billions of dollars on a silver platter and revitalize its floundering core business. Maybe they're stupid enough to sabotage that for a few quarters of extra pennies in dividends, but I really doubt it.

That's all projection. What I actually see is a bunch of construction equipment actively digging and billions of dollars of federal and state money. They're going to build a huge [*insert choice expletive*] facility, and I won't believe otherwise until the digging stops.

Some were asking for pics from the Intel site the other day.

I did get some today but they may be hard to see because a lot of the action is somewhat off of the road.

For the locations of the properties, I'm guessing businesses in the Project Cardinal area, and housing further east.

Rumor has it there may be some multi-family housing going it at Watkins and Morse Rd, but nothing concrete yet. Just for fun, the properties outlined here along Morse, Watkins, and York, are Wexner owned. That's a big chunk of land.
