The entry from Euclid to the parking in the back will be an ivy covered archway20210205_162826.png.20bf59f4adee153cd67312f6984d2dac.png

Are you in one of the units facing the back? Instead of looking at the parking garage, you now have a view of the Cleveland Zoo.20210205_162626.png.accdea59629759263d21fe89d46e98b5.png

That’s awesome!

I love the creativity of this group.

No idea if it’s related to the imminent start of this project, but Euclid is dug up outside the site and some sort of utilities work is going on.

My hovercraft is full of eels

I just walked past it....I was wondering the same thing.

I don't know if that work is related to the City Club project, but I did check in with a source and they are still on target for a groundbreaking at the end of March.

All the utility work could be nothing, could be something. Regardless, it’s exciting that construction seems to be imminent in the coming month or two! 🤞🏻

If it's not an emergency repair, then it's a precursor to City Club Apartments. Who makes routine street excavations in Cleveland in early-mid February?

The fact that they put a portapotty there yesterday, makes me think this work is going to go on for a while!

It's soooo good to see lower Euclid return to its previous grandeur!

Just imagining the City Club apartment building on that parcel really underscores how Euclid is transforming into a much more colorful vibrant Avenue. It’s going to be great fun watching the crane and the building rising!

So they parking lot is closed today and they are drilling again.  I asked when construction will start, and I got an "I have no idea"  also, I tried to ask one of the workers who are working on the utility portion on Euclid, and he gave me a shoulder shrug lol

Lol.  In a way I kind of love the CIA levels of secrecy kept by site prep crews.  Something about it adds to the excitement of these developments.

I just doubt that they know much beyond their specific part of the job.  Just because you do utility work or operate a drilling rig doesn't mean you are an urban development geek, or care to know anything beyond what's on your work order.

Excactly!!  Its snowing like crazy and its cold....They really didn't want me bothering them!  But I had to try lol

I often rely on the work of covert operates like @mack34 @tykaps @Geowizical and many others who wish to remain anonymous!

I despise that it isn't flush with 668. Ugh, that nastily inconguent bare wall & (now) those fakey looking parapet supports. :( The West elevation of 668 has the same unresolved aesthetic problem, and K&D is unlikely to spend ans disguise it.  Bleh!

One the flip side it creates more sidewalk space for programming. Its also a great place for a mural.

Agreed. Also, 668 isn't City Club's problem.

Agreed.  This is something that the city should have addressed (if they felt it was a problem) during the planning and approval process.

wait a minute - 'hol up!  😂

if you zoom in close on the render and look close you can see they have activated that space with a seating area for presumably a small indoor/outdoor dining spot. that would liven up the block!

There was supposed to have been a new level added to 668 to fill in behind the rebuilt parapet.  It was a victim of some value engineering at some point.

Maybe they can punch out some holes in the wall and install a few windows.

Once K&D is done with a building they do not often go back to make additional improvements. Otherwise the Halle Building would have a rooftop open by now lol...

Just see reserve square. Hasn't been touched since 2005!

Maybe the competition next door with City Club will entice K&D to circle back to up their amenity game.

I don't know if it was done on purpose, but I just love the colors with this building paired with Scofield and the original City Club. Hang the seal in the center and we have the city flag of Cleveland.

Right. But in the case of 668, it wouldn't have made sense to do anything on that side until they knew what was going to be built there.

Maybe it's just me but I'm totally fine with them not updating. It allows downtown to have options at a variety of price points. Brand new construction is great to bring in upper and upper middle class. And in 10-25 years, those units will be more affordable to middle and lower middle incomes.

The same thing may very well happen to City Club Apartments in the decades to come.

100% agree with this.  That is how apartments are in other cities where there has been a longer tradition of people living in apartments in the downtown.

OK, I feel like I'm KJP dropping a news bomb!!  I talked to the workers doing all the utility work....They had to move the manhole and all the fiberoptics and other lines out from the sidewalk and into middle of Euclid because the TOWER CRANE pad is going to be poured in that spot!!!

Very cool, and not to challenge you or what you heard but that’s rather odd based on other high rise construction I’ve seen. I know some have been set up at the perimeter of a site, but on the sidewalk adjacent? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Ah well, still just happy someone FINALLY called Marie 😆

The location seemed odd to me as well, but that's what the nice gentleman told me.  Seems awfully close to the street

building cranes are quite often on the sidewalks and streets as well. usually more temporarily in those public spots, but i could see it being there for the whole build based on this site. get ready to walk around it under sheds for awhile i guess, or maybe they have to close the sidewalk for that stretch, we'll see, but what a great problem to have!

Hopefully they follow the lead of JHB, once they got going their protected sidewalk was fantastic. Call me pessimistic (no coffee yet) but I'm always flabbergasted that we can't maintain ped lanes when Cbus has no problem on N. High St/Short North...if it means kicking cars into the RTA lane, so be it, idc close that section to non-bus traffic...it's time that bikes, peds, hell - even scooters, have priority.

General contractor says this is the property owner doing this work, not the GC. So this isn't yet the start of construction, but it should come soon.

@mrclifton88 I have to ask - as someone who has been following development in downtown Cleveland for about 25 years now ... per your second photo, did they take Marie's sign DOWN???

There have been certain 'absurd apex' moments along the years - no, not tower cranes, I'm talking: 'world class signage' at the Avenue District, the tree coming down from what is now the Ivory, can I really finally add Marie's sign removal to that list? Sorry, got a little something in my eye 😥 😆

Not to worry though, there will still be a Marie sign on the Prospect side.

Source says City Club Apartments President Jon Holtzman is in town this week. Wonder if there may be a groundbreaking "ceremony" soon after all.

Good groundbreaking weather this week. 😉

Maybe he could, at least, ceremonially remove the ‘Call Marie’ sign. I’m afraid it’s still there @MayDay

My hovercraft is full of eels

@MayDaysadly I can confirm that Marie can still be contacted! haha, the sign is not down yet. But fingers crossed! I think this is right up there with those significant milestones 😄

They should use the Call Marie sign to top this thing off in lieu of the usual tree.
