We need a special UO wave or something for when we pass each other nerding out and taking pics of stuff lol I have a feeling that between this and SHW, folks on here will be bumping into each other a lot.

How about the Little Rascals He-Man Woman Haters Club "hi sign"? (BTW I love women, but the club does have a cool wave!)

I will always remember this lot as the place my wife got cat-called in Portuguese by a bunch of Brazilian dudes.

Farewell.

City Club's CEO teased another building in the works. I'm working on it. But enjoy these for now...

I did notice it says City Club Apartments CBD Cleveland on one of those signs.  Wonder if that implies another project outside of the CBD.

Hopefully University Circle or Ohio City.

I can see University Circle being the location because I see it being like an Atlanta Midtown with high rises popping up everywhere, especially as they run out of lots to immediately build on.

Hopefully, this is the start of a building boom downtown.  There are a few more parking lots I would like to see eliminated - 4th & Prospect, 8th & Prospect, 9th & Bolivar and the lots surrounding SHW, although I assume nothing will happen there until SHW construction is completed.

The building boom has been going on for a while now. It’s just getting better each time. Hilton hotel, Beacon, Lumen etc. this is so awesome. I love Cleveland

Congrats Cleveland on a great day - man, there’s going to be a tremendous energy downtown over the next couple years as City Club rises just a few blocks away from the huge SW HQ.  Gonna be a lot of lights   shimmering downtown.

And even though City Club is not going to shatter the skyline - 23 stories is certainly a major presence and will contribute greatly to the urban fabric.  I actually think this building will be absolutely transformative in the streetscape with its creative design and vibrant colors.

I’m excited to watch City Club continue the Renaissance of Euclid.  Especially given the recent additions of The Beacon and the Lumen - the grand Avenue is going to feel much more dynamic.

Despite the international effect of the Pandemic, this is  looking like a great period  of development in Cleveland.

the city club ceo was speaking to me....  time for cleveland to break out of this beige and gray box..!!   it starts with one splash of color...   🎉

City Club Apartments breaks ground for its first Cleveland project
By Ken Prendergast / December 10, 2021

It wasn’t just the sound shovels hitting the dirt at the City Club Apartments’ groundbreaking ceremony today in downtown Cleveland that was heard. It was also the news that the Farmington Hills, MI developer and owner of multi-family and mixed-use properties was just getting started in establishing a presence in Cleveland. But no one overlooked the importance of the latest residential high-rise being added to Cleveland’s main street, least of all the man most responsible for it.

Before there was a parking lot, there was the second-largest theater in the USA (when the Hippodrome was built in 1907). And there was Krenzler's crime in 1981...

I wonder if today, even with Kenzler's influence, the Hipp would be demolished.  At least, I believe, there would be more of a fight.  Look what Gilbert had to go through to build his casino garage even though he eventually won.  Landmark spent Thursday debating a roof and solar panels on an Ohio City house for over an hour.  I think today we, as a community, would put up a bigger fight, especially given the plan was for a parking garage and surface parking on Euclid.  Also recall just yards away we lost the Williamson and Cuyahoga Buildings right around the same time.  Even greater loses.

Amen to that! I'm thinking after this boom we may be able to have achieved something more colorful, maybe akin to Philly with its historical skyline and more recent additions:

I think we're doing a pretty good job with lighting although a little more creativity would be appreciated. Let's get started on those bridges in the Flats now.

But God yes. We NEED color added to the palette. This building has a chance to be a gamechanger if poor quality materials don't cheapen it. We'll have to wait for the finished product but if it's done right it will be an attention grabber and could spur other developers here to add color to their next project.

I know all eyes are on the SHW ceremony today, but work in earnest was scheduled to start here today as well. Is that still the case @KJP?

I haven’t had the chance to go by the area yet. I would hope work has started

I walked by yesterday and there is nothing going on

A Cleveland Construction rep said in my article last week that they hoped they could start construction as early as today. Apparently they haven't or there would be pictures already posted. I'm trying to find out what the updated start date might be.

Construction manager was waiting for the city to approve their maintenance of traffic plan. That has now been approved. Look for site prep to start Monday.

^ yeah, things like that no doubt.

there is nothing at all unusual about gaps between ground breaking and getting started. 👍

Exactly this. Sherwin Williams would have had their ground breaking in November but actual construction started in the last 2 weeks.

Is there some type of ordinance the city could pass in order to require sidewalks to remain open?
