Where the jib (long horizontal component) is angled upward. You see a lot of these in New York City because the construction sites are tight and usually surrounded by other high rises.

 

Thanks a lot MayDay!!  I've seen those kind of cranes in Toronto.  I never knew why some cranes were configured like this.  Now I know.

Started raining otherwise would've gotten some more. Pretty cool scene going on down there today.

Two cranes - a telescopic crane to build the crawler crane to build the tower crane 😉

I was so proud of my joke, I showed it my teenage son, who said ‘But that’s Bumblebee, not Optimus Prime!’. I guess you can tell that I’ve actually never seen any of the movies!

Well I’m certainly not old enough to remember the cartoon version and I CERTAINLY never owned any action figures! 😕😉

So, what, are they just building the whole thing and not planning on doing a crane jump? Sure looks cool, but why else would you do that? They just want to be sure they have the tallest crane downtown, even if just for a little while? 😉

I'm guessing its much easier and less time consuming to just put it all together now.

Wonder how much they sway in the wind? I'm not afraid of heights but if I was the crane operator I might be. 

How much taller is this crane than the actual building? It looks huge! 

^IIRC it’s going to be a ~250ft building, so a solid 60-70 taller than the existing City Club Building next door. So the crane height looks about right.

This photo really encapsulates how far Cleveland has come over the last decade or so.. from what was almost certain demolition of the Cleveland Trust Tower, to it’s rescue and becoming the city’s best known mixed use development.  Then the boom on Euclid Ave. that followed.  Great shot @MuRrAy HiLL

 FWIW -  I try to take photos around people/don't post ones with them, but yeah Sunday afternoons can sure be quiet downtown. These ~300 new apartments should help a little though. 

I'm sure there's a better thread for downtown foot traffic discussion - find it, or make it 🙂

it does look to be moving along at a speedy rate now. often times it seems to drag while they do the foundation, but not here. also, its really interesting to be able to watch all the work because usually foundation work in this kind of setting is fairly hidden and mysterious.

Yes - for some, but not from my seats.  Blocked by the Jumbotron.
