April 6, 20232 yr I have no good reason why I am focusing on these this much, but does anyone know what these white 'tubes?' are? Part of the facade or just some sort of drain?
April 6, 20232 yr I really don't know what those are. But based on my time in construction, it very well could be a drain of some sort. Water can be a big issue at some construction sites. Again, I was only an apprentice, but I had spent an entire week at a site in Beachwood using a giant squeegee to get rid of puddles. The water had to go before the carpenter's could lay out the interior walls with chalk lines. Looks like the lower floors of City Club are at that stage. Edited April 6, 20232 yr by ArtDecoSquirrel
April 11, 20232 yr Looks like this project will top out in the middle of May......6 or so stories to go.
April 11, 20232 yr Balcony railings starting to go in! Also I wouldn’t want to be that worker sitting on the edge😅

April 14, 20232 yr Love the Sherwin Williams crane in the background! It's like our own little Nashville!

April 14, 20232 yr When I was in Nashville in October of 2022 there were more crane in the sky than I could count. Not little projects either a handful close too or over 500ft. I do agree seeing the crane in the background is awesome!

I'm not taking anything away from what's going on in Nashville. They have way more going on than we do. But I did notice that particularly in the south (I'm thinking of Savannah specifically) they were using cranes to build wood framed six story buildings. They had five cranes for buildings that were certainly going to be no taller than maybe eight stories. Anyways back on topic.

We have crane operators here that fly the whole building blind from the ground, just using hand signals from the tradesmen on the building. Welleon in Gordon Square is a great example of this. A tower crane, the operator Is largely in full control.

April 18, 20232 yr Here you go :) Wish I could take credit for the great photo, but I got it from the construction cam that @urbanetics_ posted back in February. See link below! 👍 https://app.oxblue.com/open/Clevelandco/City-Club-Apartments
April 19, 20232 yr Checked the camera just now (7:40pm) and they were still working.Wonder if it’s crunch time or overtime is just available the later the sun stays out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
April 20, 20232 yr @GREGinPARMA, I’ve also been watching off and on all day and would say they’re working late to get that particular section of concrete poured. Just a guess!
April 20, 20232 yr From the City Club construction cam - the lights of 668 really look nice and I guess that the old City Club is somewhat empty these days? And, then there’s that Ohio Bell building that we’d love to see transformed …anyway, thank goodness for the new City Club Apartments energizing this block! Edited April 20, 20232 yr by CleveFan
April 20, 20232 yr it takes way longer to do the concrete floor pours because they now have to do it all by crane and bucket. used to take about 3-4 hours, now it takes about 6-7. Didnt start the pour till around 3ish.

They really need to do something with that abomination of a plaza at PNC. Put the F'ing Superman statue there. Something. Anything.

It's been forever and three days since I was in that part of downtown, used to be there all the time last century. When did they take down the "swinging middle finger" sculpture?

April 20, 20232 yr The swinging finger isn't so bad. It's better than the twisted sewer pipe at the justice center.
April 20, 20232 yr The best thing to do with the plaza is to remove the cement and turn it into a mini-park with dense foliage and find someone to open a little outdoor cafe to take advantage of the scene. I realize none of that is going to happen now but once City Club AND the Centennial is fully leased then the corner might actually become a center of activity. It also could create a little synergy with Heinan's.
April 20, 20232 yr Not to get too off topic but how come the PNC building is no longer bathed in light at night?

There are already significant beds, planters, etc. between PNC and AmTrust.

April 20, 20232 yr Birds also fly into glassy buildings during the day. But we are digressing. I think it's time for some new City Club photos.

April 21, 20232 yr I'm at the point I'd trade a 50-story skyscraper for some serious land/streetscaping. Love the new development but man, that's a lot of concrete and stone.
