February 5, 20241 yr Man. We are so spoiled in this city. Clearly very few of you have ever paid $2,500 a month for a 600 square foot railroad in Brooklyn with a scrap yard in the back and floors that sloped so much that you could set a pen down on the floor outside the bedroom and it would roll to the kitchen without applying any force, while being awakened at 4am to a guy in a wheelchair capping 2 people across the street at the house that got raided by the DEA once every 6 months and it shows! As someone who has also had the “privilege” of living in a “luxury” apartment in downtown Austin that cost way more per square foot, these finishes are legitimately an upgrade. Not perfect at all, but geeez.

Of course apartment conditions/value is going to generally be better in Cleveland/Ohio over a place like Brooklyn. What your paying for in NYC is access to 3 major airports flying to every city on earth 24 hours a day, some of worlds best shopping, the best culinary, the biggest mass transit systems, the highest of paying jobs, unmatched networking with the worlds very best talent, a barbershop and corner store every block or 2, unmatched entertainment from broadway to stops by every music artist alive and living in a place that host once in a lifetime events such as the 2026 World Cup Final that was just awarded to NYC Metro, I can go on and on and on. There are pros and cons to them all. I wish folks can give the NYC/mega city comparisons a rest, it’s apples and oranges. Edited February 5, 20241 yr by 646empire

There are pros and cons to them all. I wish folks can give the NYC/mega city comparisons a rest, it’s apples and oranges. Oh, I don’t disagree! For one, I was being a bit pithy with the response, and the way my wife and I always describe NYC is that it is like that quote from You’ve Got Mail where Joe Fox is told that the illustrations in a kids’ book are all hand tipped and he asks “Is that why it costs so much?” And the response is “That’s what it’s WORTH so much”. As someone who has lived in both places, you absolutely are paying for the right to live in one of the greatest places on planet Earth. But with that said, you are paying for the outside of the apartment in downtown Cleveland as well, so the fact that a once barely used parking lot was turned into a true mixed-use, upscale apartment complex should be celebrated while offering constructive criticism if that makes sense. Now, I will die on the hill that paying more for a luxury apartment in downtown Austin is just so dumb. The amenities in Austin are far worse than what is offered in Cleveland despite what magazines will tell you haha. So you’re right. It was cringey on purpose, but The City Club Apartments are not some tacky shack that people shouldn’t live in because they don’t love the look of the cabinet handles.

February 6, 20241 yr To be fair, you can greatly improve how an apartment looks with the right decor that you decide to put in it. So... if you're moving here, don't go to a thrift store to furnish your apartment while having grandioso expectations. 😉
February 6, 20241 yr City Club Apartments built a riverfront apartment project in Pittsburgh (City Club South Side Works) about 10 years ago and used the same granite countertops and gurney type kitchen islands. The property is now called 2626 South Side Flats. The trend with new urban apartment development is for the developer to spend more on building amenities and public spaces (i.e. lobby, meeting rooms, fitness area, party rooms with high-end kitchens) and the units themselves are fairly basic and often small. The residents utilize these public areas when their friends come over and to "work from home". The lobbies in the City Club buildings are a bit over the top in cutting edge design for their target market renters to make up for the sometimes non-descript unit finishes. If you check City Club's website, you will notice that 99% of their marketing photos are of the building's public spaces, retail spaces, and neighborhood, and almost none are of the actual units themselves. Nevertheless, I think City Club and any other developer investing in new construction in downtown Cleveland should be commended.
February 29, 20241 yr Author First look: new 3-story restaurant-speakeasy downtown By Ken Prendergast / February 29, 2024 Although the names and themes were previously announced, designs for a new French-themed restaurant and speakeasy in Downtown Cleveland were made publicly available for the first time yesterday. They show a well-appointed establishment with a construction budget to match. The hospitality offerings are due to open later this year at the new 23-story City Club Apartments, 776 Euclid Ave., to offer Clevelanders more le plaisir. March 6, 20241 yr Watching the construction cam. They have begun exterior cladding work again and moving at a pretty good pace also.

March 16, 20241 yr I'm dazzled by this dashing new tower. It has genuine élan. Although a simple form, the bold element on the roof adds unmatched visual interest, setting it apart from it's cubular cousins downtown. 😆 Heck, even the parapet @ 668 looks okay from this angle. April 5, 20241 yr I can confirm residents can move into the building as of the 15th. The ground level restaurants are supposed to open by the end of May and the rooftop pool by the end of July. My unit is available as of the 15th but I am not going to start my lease until May 9th. Because of all the delays they allowed me to decide a convenient date to start my lease.
April 6, 20241 yr The blue design for the facade looks much more subtle than I had expected based off the renderings.

Seems like a pretty amateurish hazard and I've seen countless people just walk down the small median in center of Euclid to get around the blocked off sidewalk because of this. The city required them to set up the detour which requires pedestrians to walk across the street, then use the crosswalk once past the site to get back to that side of the street. So, while it's inconvenient, there's been arrangements made. Its the pedestrians error to be walking in the median. Since they have such a tight site, they use the curb lane of Euclid to deliver materials and they had their crane set up right on the sidewalk. It would be a huge hazard to try and maintain a sidewalk in their delivery and unloading zone.
April 8, 20241 yr I wonder what others think of this developments set back. I wish it would have aligned up with the same as the other buildings along Euclid Avenue. I really can't wait to see this building completed and occupied.

Seems logical to me, it inconveniences no one, and makes it easier for me to get where I'm going. I don't see why it should be frowned upon.

But it does look a little awkward. Hopefully 668 can do something with that ugly side.

April 12, 20241 yr I toured the building again yesterday and it's making progress, albeit slowly. The first residents are moving in Monday. There is a delay on the Murphy Beds so I decided to push my move in date to mid June. By then all the restaurants/retail should be open. Late May is still the plan. Gym equipment was not in yet but should be by Monday. Elevators work, but nothing else amenity wise is complete. Getting there slowly but surely. The theater room is a big disappointment. The room is nice, but there's no projection screen or even a huge TV. It's just a regular TV in a theater room. It's kind of ridiculous and honestly a bit embarrassing IMO. I asked, and the TV in there is the final TV. Kinda shocked. On the other hand the Sky Deck looks bigger in person than expected. Still not going to be ready until late July, but very excited. The plan is for live music and or DJ's on weekends. The plan is for the pool to be open from March to November, which is nice. Heated of course.
April 12, 20241 yr From the interior of the Sky Deck overlooking the pool. Note how the 4 biggest buildings in the city are all visible without any blocking the other. I was amazed at the view.
April 12, 20241 yr Amenities in apartment buildings are generally selling points that are rarely ever used in reality - even if theyre nice. The rooftop rules, tho.

April 20, 20241 yr It really is much better. I have griped about the "purple" in the past, but it comes off much better in real life. As good as the rendering visuals are these days, it's hard to render subtleties and nuances in lighting, reflections, etc.

Thanks - I don't usually do "up the nose" shots for high-rises as they don't provide much context, but the way the light was hitting the red accents underneath caught my eye. I don't know that I'd want every other building to have this color palette but I'm liking how this is turning out. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 21, 20241 yr Is there still a protective film on some of those panels? Because they most definitely look blue and not the lavender/purple that's in the rendering.
