I'm surprise how small the foot print is for this project.

Does anyone know if all this rain has a impact on this freshly poured cement pad. Did this pad dry in time?

  • Author

Don't know but it looks like there's standing water on the pad, especially the west end of it, per the webcam....

I would think it is ok because there has been rain forecasted for Sunday all week so I doubt they would have went ahead with the pour if this would have messed it up. This was not a surprise rain storm.Ā

A little bit of rain's not going to affect a 5' thick concrete pad.

It’ll help the pad cure. Concrete can/will set underwater.

Still a month-plus away...Aug. 26. The base may be constructed before then, however. Like SHW's HQ.

Pouring the pad for the crane!

Guess they got jealous of all the attention Sherwin William's crane was getting

I can't tell if it's just the perspective or if city club is set back further from the sidewalk than it's surrounding buildings? If so, that's a shame. Is the outline of the foundation we see now the same dimensions the building will be vertically?

I’m totally fine with the setback if it’s to allow for the trees they have in the renderings.Ā

The setback has been talked about before.Ā

Ā

Pros: the much deeper sidewalk/building entrance allows for some nifty streetscaping with space for large trees. Definitely a greener stretch of Euclid Ave. It creates almost of New York feel, a visual invitation that says this building is different than other Cleveland buildings.

Ā

Cons: The setback when viewed looking West on Euclid from E9th. doesn't work. The parapet on 668 has a Potemkin village feel and the exposed brick wall on 668 looks awkward. Maybe there are plans to do something about that wall but, knowing how we do things here...probably not.Ā

Ā

Other than the setback I think when completed this building will be one of my favorites downtown.Ā

@Cadmen, that was a good and thoughtful analysis.Ā  Ā Personally, I'm still unsure about the purple paint and that swoopy googie-type thing on top, but I'm reserving judgment until the product is finished.

A whimsical mural on the wall would help.Ā  As for the parapet, perhaps adding some decorative screening along the side to make it look a little less Potemkin.

Crane parts have started to arrive. Looks like it’s going to be blue. Nice of them to go with a different color to SHW.Ā

They would have to do this while I'm in Germany...

Change the direction/angle a bit and we could have two cranes in this picĀ :)

We might not see the rest of the crane till they pour the base.Ā Looks like they started on the elevator shaft today. From earlier this afternoon:

Great update! Can't wait to watch this be built.

Ā

Glad to see this! Ā We’re going to have 2 highly visible cranes in the sky over DT Cle for many months, between this and Sherwin-Williams. Ā IIRC, the cranes for Beacon and Lumen were only up simultaneously for a matter of weeks or at most a couple months.Ā
Ā

That is serious business securing the crane in place. When the project is done, how do they get that bottom crane piece out of the cement?

Odds of a third crane joining the party before the other two come down?

If you count what they may be using for the parking garage at SHW.Ā  Ā Otherwise, nothing I can think of is soon enough in the development pipeline.Ā  City Club is a fairly small footprint, so it should go up quickly.

Nice!Ā  Downtown will have a red and a blue tower crane!!

i see people walking by in the pics, so it looks like walking by on the street is not a big deal so far. i wonder if they make a shed path as the crane goes up? or just close off that side or street?

The sidewalk, parking lane and drive lane are all closed on the side of the building. The bus lane is being used by busses and cars.Ā

Ā

The pedestrians you see on the side of the project are ignoring the closures.

^ i wondered -- as for one thing the crane looks close to the road.

Happy Tower Crane Day!

As luck would have it, I’ll be downtown this weekend šŸ‘Ā @KJPDo you happen to know if this will be a hammerhead crane (like SW) or luffing jib?

No @MayDay, but I'm hoping to hear some details later on today.

Wasn't there plans for the property directly south of the parking garage? Any news/updates on that?

I believe Medical Mutual was considering that site for a new building to accommodate their consolidation plans a few years ago, but they instead decided to rent space in the old American Greetings building in Brooklyn. I have not heard of any other plans since then.Ā  Seems like it would be suitable for an apartment tower.Ā
