Well as someone who knew him, I agree with seicer.

Who are you?

I'm ME!  :-P    He was a contributor for CNN.

Can we close this now.  Let the man rest in peace!

I think Seicer put it perfectly. Whether or not you agree with the politics, he did his job well, was a well spoken man, and was respected in the journalistic community.

Um, did you even watch Tony Snow's press conferences? He was one of the most hated men in the history of American journalism. Other news networks hated his guts:

Um Hello...I work in PR/Communications!  I watch and read a ton of stuff and have unlimited access to the WHC's.  Don't start with me and lets let this thread die, since it's been completely ruined!

I'm sorry, but I think you are referring to something completely subjective.

Alright, I'll say this much from my original post. You may not like the guy, but having watched a loved one die of colon cancer I can tell you that I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. It is painful and demoralizing and no one should have to suffer through it.

Don't agree with his politics, fine. Neither do I. Don't piss on the man's grave, though.

The worst I'd do, is well, this thread...

C-Dawg, somehow I just don't believe this thread is the worst thing you've done.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

It's just unbelievable how brutal people have become. There's something very sick taking hold in the world right now.

Public executions were popular entertainment for most of human history.  Still are in some places.  Point being, people have always been brutal.  Probably always will be.  In this respect we don't live in exceptional times, we don't live in an exceptional place.

This is all very sad for the Snow family.  My condolences.

I hated the man, no doubt about it, but I'd never take it to his family members. The worst I'd do, is well, this thread...

There is a lot of hate on this board.  Most of it coming from self rightous people like yourself.  How can you hate a good person just because you disagree with his beliefs?  I thought that was one of the strengths of this country.  People can disagree, but have common goals.  I feel very sorry for you.

I may not have agreed with everything he has done but I still wish he may rest in peace (he seemed like a good guy).  Now Strom Thurman...

C-Dawg, you seem to get blasted on every thread you post in. Call me crazy, but I'm starting to see a pattern.

so whats the big surprise that this guy was a tool? come on, he was white house press secretary, not white house truthitary (apologies to colbert). his job was to say exactly what cheney, whoops i mean president bush, told him to say. from what i saw he was fine at that. i didn't know he was an ohioan -- bummer.

whats to say if these GI's get an education here then take jobs that a perfectly good ohioan might have gotten with the same education background but without the millitary service on the resume. Sounds like native born ohioians are put at a disadvantage for employment oppertunities.

I guess we should build a wall around Ohio to keep out the foreigners then so they can't TERK ERR JERBS.

darn tootin!

but my concern is for those people that want to stay in their area and dont want to commute..blah blah blah  just playing devils advocate...

I dont really care considering i have a 30 minute commute every day to work. And i work with lasey idiots that wouldnt know how to tie their shoe if they didnt sing the "bunny ear" song.

Cleveland Councilman's House Fire Called Suspicious

Teens Wake People In Home

POSTED: 6:12 am EDT July 28, 2008

UPDATED: 7:13 am EDT July 28, 2008

CLEVELAND -- A fire broke out in the home of a Cleveland city councilman early Monday morning.

The flames started around 2:30 a.m. on West 12th Street at the home of Joe Cimperman.

NewsChannel5's Dan Haggerty reported that neighbors smelled smoke and called 911.

Some teenagers in the area alerted the Ward 13 councilman, who lives on the second floor, and another family on the first floor, by throwing rocks and the windows and yelling, and got them out of the house safely.

Cimperman said he heard the smoke alarm go off and the banging on his door. His 1-week-old baby was in the home and also is OK.

Firefighters said the blaze appears suspicious. They found signs of an accelerant near the home. That could mean the fire was intentionally set, Haggerty said.

The fire spread quickly, igniting a propane tank on the second-floor balcony and damaging a neighboring home.

The flames did about $30,000 in damage to Cimperman's home.

Firefighters are investigating.

Coming at a time when city council is restructuring also...sounds suspicious.

How very sad. Joe and his wife just had a baby 7 days ago. I'm glad that they got out ok.

The fire sounds very suspicious.

I think that is just awful.

Is this a fact or is this a "proposal"?

Thanks goodness all in the residencies are OK, physically at least.

Mother Jones magazine apparently did a expose on Dayton's porker Congressman Mike Turner (who is also a blatant homophobe).  More national attention for the "fastest dying city", on a corrupt bigot politician who is helping dig the grave:

Source:Dayton OS

The latest issue of Mother Jones tells that Congressman Mike Turner “has declared himself to be a pork buster” and that he is sponsoring legislation to prohibit House and Senate members from using earmarks as a “backdoor” means to get funding for local projects. But, the magazine reports, “For Turner, pork has been a family affair. Since 2004, Turner has requested millions in earmarks for a local organization that later hired his wife, and a highway project that would benefit one of her business partners.”  Excerpts from the article:

    * Turner, hit a patch of trouble earlier this year when the Dayton Daily News disclosed that his wife, Lori Turner, who owns and operates a PR company, Turner Effect, had been awarded a lucrative no-bid contract by the Dayton Development Coalition, which lobbies Congress for funding for local projects. …After the story broke, Lori Turner dropped the contract. Her firm had already been paid nearly $400,000.

    * According to tax records, the Dayton Development Coalition — many of whose members are also major Turner donors — shared an address, phone number and president with a partner organization called Development Projects, Inc. (DPI). What did not come out in the news stories was that Congressman Turner had requested $3.4 million in federal earmarks for local development that would be passed through DPI, of which about $700,000 was actually approved and disbursed.

    * Turner has received more campaign contributions from developers than from any other industry. In 2002, Lori Turner and Tom Peebles, a prominent Dayton developer and longtime Turner donor, incorporated a real estate firm called Peebles Homes of Beavercreek. Congressional ethics rules state that “interest in a limited partnership established to purchase real estate” must be revealed as part of members’ financial disclosure, but Peebles Homes did not appear on any of Turner’s filings. Turner’s spokesman says it was not reported because the real estate firm was actually a subsidiary of Turner’s wife’s company, Turner Effect.

..Special note for  UO folks...  * In 2004, Turner won $6.75 million in earmarks for a massive new highway project south of Dayton. Foes of the project call it an assault on Dayton’s urban center, but it will be a boon for developers — including Tom Peebles

    * This past February, three weeks after the Dayton Daily News disclosed Lori Turner’s contract with the Dayton Development Coalition, her partnership with Tom Peebles was dissolved. Lori Turner says the business ended “due to market conditions.”

Interesting.

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

What's interesting is that Mother Jones apparently was able to uncover a direct financial relationship between Turners wife and the developers.

I blogged a bit on this back in the winter, but was only able to uncover connections via campaign contributions (which is actually prettty easy to do) and Turner defense program earmarks, as well as Austin Road.  While interesting and suspicious, implying a quid-pro-quo,  it's no smoking gun.

@@@

This will be in the September issue of Mother Jones.  What I'm trying to figure out is how they knew to dig into Turner?

She was removed from life support at 12:19 p.m. at Huron Road Hospital, the sources said.

I'm terribly sorry to hear this.  I've had the pleasure of working on a couple of projects with the Congresswoman and her staff; she was an intelligent, caring person who also had remarkable humility.  I don't often have the opportunity to work with elected officials who were secure enough to say "I don't know" and curious enough to learn more.  She was one.

WKYC is supposed to have a live press conference at 2:30pm. You can visit http://www.wkyc.com/video/news/breaking/ for live video. The news is not expected to be good, from what I've been hearing.

now I'm hearing rumblings about her being in critical condition....not sure who or what to believe right now.

^ That's what was said in the (very short) press conference, that she's in very critical condition and has very limited brain functions.

now I'm hearing rumblings about her being in critical condition....not sure who or what to believe right now.

fwiw I do know that the decision to remove life support was in fact made, whether or not she has actually passed yet I don't know, but I can't imagine she would last long without the life support.

whether you liked her or not, this is a sad, sad day.

I know a neurologist who says from what he has heard that she is likely brain dead with or without life support.

Very sad.  First Fannie Lewis, now Stephanie Tubbs-Jones.

:'(.  That just about sums it up.

how sad, i just received a response from her no less than 3 days ago re: the RTA budget crisis....

WEWS-TV Is reporting that the Cleveland Plain Dealer was in error in reporting she has died.  But the same story says she is in critical condition with "very little brain activity".

Maybe they are waiting to gather all of her family or close friends before they remove life support.  Just a horrible thing to happen to any family.

More likely that they have already removed life support but she has not passed yet.

Very sad.  First Fannie Lewis, now Stephanie Tubbs-Jones.

*Sigh*, I am still speechless.

May she Rest In Peace  .

This is extremely sad news.  I know firsthand that people close to Rep. Tubbs Jones were really devastated by all the events of the day.

This is very sad.  I have heard people say that aneurysms are about as painless and quick a way to die as any, but they are still scary as all hell because they could happen at anytime.

My condolences to her family and friends.

Terrible day in Cleveland and America... I'm honored to have met her on several occasions. She was a truly beautiful human being; down to earth and light years from a typical pol.  And she absolutely loved Cleveland ...

God bless you, Steph...

God bless.

terribly sad. I know those that worked with her in many different fields really respected her.

Very sad - and so sudden.  RIP

Very sad news. She will be missed by all Americans.
