Rumor is it’s going to become the US’s largest Buckees with 500 gas pumps. They wanted something more dense but they decided they wanted to mimic the fast food plaza thats just west of the development.

^ THat would be a huge tourist draw for the region. Dayton thought they scooped Cincinnati with their Bucces but nothing like a Bucces with a river view. I hear that this Bucces may even take Semi's  since they will have so many gas pumps and instead of brisket they will have a Cincinnati Chili station

Finally! With one so close to my house I'll never run out beef jerky!

Covington selects Elevar, Brandstetter Carroll to design new city hall

By Brian Planalp – Reporter, Cincinnati Business Courier

Oct 31, 2023

A design team unveiled the first renderings of Covington’s proposed new city hall building at a board of commissioners meeting Oct. 24.

The city recently selected Cincinnati-based Elevar Design Group and Lexington, Ky.-based Brandstetter Carroll to design the building after a public input process that has lasted years.

Initial bidding documents called for a two-story, 35,000-square-foot building on 1.15 acres at 620 Scott Street. The current design shows a three-story, 42,000-square-foot building with a basement for city archives.

The building has been upscaled in the design process, Covington Mayor Joe Meyer confirmed to the Business Courier.

Kenton County taps Dugan & Meyers to build garage needed for Brent Spence Bridge project

A Blue Ash construction firm will build Kenton County’s planned new garage, advanced as part of the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project.

The county received two other proposals, one from Messer Construction and the other from Prus Construction.

The underground parking garage will sit at 1840 Simon Kenton Way and will serve the Kenton County Government Center. It will be constructed to support a potential multifamily residential development above.

Noticed that KYTC has cleared the vegetation between I-75 and Crescent Avenue for the construction of the new pilot program for the semi-transparent noise barriers to be used as part of the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor  when driving by this weekend.   I don't have good photos.

The folks who built those ~$Million homes on the downhill side of Western Avenue are going to LOVE their view in about a half-dozen years.

The irony is that sound walls aren't actually very good at blocking noise. You know what is though? Foliage. It disperses at random angles and has many more layers of absorption and does a good job of dampening harsh sounds.

In the latest article, it mentions that the developers are looking to reconfigure the design and layout to support higher density:

"The terms of the lease, as well as the final scope, design, shape, density and unit pricing in the development, are yet to be determined. Preliminary renderings from the county show a three-story, L-shaped structure, though the garage will be built to support four stories, and the developers have asked the county to consider alternate layouts to support increased density."

Looks like the apartments will come on line just as the construction on I-75 will be ramping up.

Covington's SparkHaus lands millions in Kentucky state funds

By Liz Engel - Digital editor

April 16, 2024, 06:30am EDT Updated 1 hour 55 minutes ago

A key project that will revitalize a historic building along Madison Avenue in downtown Covington received a multimillion-dollar windfall from the state. Organizers behind the effort said the funds will kick-start development with a targeted completion date set for next year.

SparkHaus, a conversion of the now-vacant Sims Furniture building, received $6 million in state funding to support its build out. The estimated $15 million project, first announced in spring 2023, aims to bring together entrepreneurs, founders, investors and support organizations under one roof.

The monies were part of Kentucky House Bill 1, legislation using the commonwealth’s budget reserves for one-time investments in infrastructure, economic development and more. With the funding secured, construction is slated to begin this fall.

Would have been nice if they would have put in a little coffee shop or something.

I agree, the Devou overlook is missing a reason to stay and hang out for a while. There was a proposal from long ago for a winery with vineyard on the hillside, but a brewery, cafe/coffee shop or something to give people a place to meet and hang out would be amazing in that location instead of just an event venue for rich people's weddings.

Do they still kick you out at night?  I haven't been to Devou in close to a decade now and last time I was there I couldn't even get a night panorama shot with my camera without being forced to leave.

Covington to break ground on new $26M city hall building in October

The city of Covington has set a groundbreaking date and revealed the total cost for its new city hall building.

City officials will break ground Oct. 29 on the new city hall at 620 Scott St., according to a project update Elizabeth Wetzel, Covington’s director of special projects, delivered at the Aug. 13 board of commissioner’s meeting.

Costs for the new city hall are expected to total around $26 million. The board of commissioners at its Aug. 27 meeting will consider an ordinance authorizing a bond issuance of $29.2 million, with the $3.2 million excess intended to cover expenses related to the issuance and capitalized interest.

Great news for Covington. It's been a long time since they've had a permanent place to call home. So many moves over the past 50 years. Still wish the old city hall had not been so foolishly razed.

I'm glad for Cov but that looks like an elementary school.

I'm just happy they are keeping Lee's.  That Wednesday Special cannot be denied!

I try to keep things on a positive note, but when something presents itself in such a horrific manner, I just have to put in my two cents.  That rendering of the new Covington City Hall has to be one of the ugliest city hall buildings I have ever seen.  Mind you, I haven't seen many renderings of city hall buildings, but I have seen many government buildings that do look nice.  Dare I say fashionable and beautiful.  For a city right across the river from Cincinnati, it is almost like they are bowing down and licking Cincinnati's boots as an uncreative submissive.  So disappointed in Covington!

Cincinnati region to welcome third innovation district as construction slated to start on SparkHaus this month

By Liz Engel – Digital editor/Cincy Inno editor, Cincinnati Business Courier

Sep 19, 2024

The Greater Cincinnati region is set to usher in a third innovation district when SparkHaus in Covington opens next year. The more than $16 million effort will transform a vacant retail storefront on Madison Avenue into an entrepreneurship hub – a place where venture capitals and startup founders alike can better plant roots.

Project leaders gathered earlier this week to celebrate the construction kickoff. Work on the space officially starts Sept. 30 with a goal of opening by summer 2025. In leading up to that milestone, more details have emerged.

To see renderings of the space, click through the gallery above.

Kenton County Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann said there’s a huge unmet need in the region, a sentiment also echoed by Dave Knox, executive director for Blue North, a Northern Kentucky-focused entrepreneurship support group. Blue North is partnering with Kenton County on the project and is among a running list of tenants slated to occupy the building, most recently a Sims Furniture store, and previously home to Montgomery Ward.
