Posted July 14, 20222 yr I recently got a chance to go up in my friend's plan for a quick loop around the Loop and to snag some aerial photos of Chicago. Hard to beat the views when you're flying lower than some of the skyscrapers! Let's get a skyline shot out of the way first: IMG_1224 by Ethan Kocjan, on Flickr IMG_1231 by Ethan Kocjan, on Flickr IMG_1232 by Ethan Kocjan, on Flickr Passing by Northwestern's campus. Hope you all enjoyed this little fly-along past downtown! “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

July 14, 20222 yr Nice pics. I can’t decide if I like the St. Regis Chicago but there’s no denying its impact on the skyline in these shots.
September 17, 20222 yr Nice shots! The scale of Chicago is unreal, great to see it from the airSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
September 17, 20222 yr 45 years later, and Sears still stands out completely. I can only imagine how overwhelming it must have been when built, when there were much fewer mid and high rises. St. Regis/Wanda Vista is a disappointment depending on the angle. The last-minute blow-through floors make the building look permanently unfinished.

The last-minute blow-through floors make the building look permanently unfinished. Amoco and John Hancock added some balancing height, even then. Before Hancock, Chicago didn't have a building within 100' of Terminal Tower. John Hancock in Boston of course was the first non-Manhattan building to surpass TT in the western hemisphere.
September 18, 20222 yr ^Couple notes on that. 1. Chicago's Lake Point Tower (645 feet) was within 100' of the Terminal Tower (709 feet) prior to Hancock being built. 2. The Prudential Tower (749 feet; 907 feet w/ antenna) predates Hancock in Boston and was also taller than the Terminal Tower when completed in 1964.
