Great win tonight! I wanted to go with my son and call my but my son was qualifying for his own soccer team this evening. He impressed the evaluators!

What a great game.  Hope your son makes the team he was trying out for - there is very little as exciting and rewarding (and as nerve wracking) as watching your child compete in the sport that they love.  Best of luck to him

I was there at the Akron City FC game when Cleveland beat us 8-0.

I wish I could have been there three days later when they played Cleveland to a 1-1 tie in Lakewood.

And ditto what @Chazz Michael Michaels said.  Incidentally, is your son trying out for Liberty FC, the same one coached by the Cleveland FC coach?  (Or at least it was until he got the Cleveland FC job and I think he's actually still involved with Liberty somehow, too.)  I know a few parents on that team (one of the kids on my son's team also plays for Liberty).

I’ve been a regular spectator at Cleveland SC for the last 4-5 seasons. I did used to post the odd update on another thread we have on here somewhere, but stopped a couple of years back as I got the feeling no one was really reading them.
They’ve been solid this season again, despite a change in coach and a number of players. I couldn’t make the game last night, but hope they got a better turnout than usual with the downtown venue.  Despite consistently being one of the best teams in the country at their level and getting to the finals, they can never seem to break past the 150 or so regulars who watch them every week.
If the reanimated Cleveland Force get into the USL2 as seems to be the goal, I fear Cleveland SC will fade very quickly. Which is a shame, because I like the way they go about their style of play and brand.

I was at the Cleveland-Akron 1-1 tie in Lakewood. My son and all of his soccer buddies watched about 10-15 minutes of the game and then proceeded en masse to kick around a soccer ball in the far end of the stadium for the rest of the night. Although they were let on to the field during the half.

Thanks! I don't want to get too far ahead of things since he's only nine, but my son is a very good soccer player. He's got the coaches' eyes and they all want to coach him. Sometimes he gets a little lazy and doesn't attack like he should, but when he's aggressive, he's a sight to behold. In their last tournament, Lakewood United FC went up against the eventual champion, the Shaker Youth Soccer Association, who absolutely dominated our boys. Except one -- my son scored a hat trick on them. We lost 12-3.

Hah!  This is the usual routine at Akron home games, too.

Also, in a stroke of family-friendly genius, the field where all the kids go play when they get is right next to the Hoppin' Frog pavilion, so the parents can all sit and drink Hoppin' Frog and watch both the game from ground level and the kids.  Was particularly great during the one game with a rain delay because the pavilion is a fixed structure.  🍺 😎

Where does Cleveland SC play it's home games. That game against Pittsburgh looked like it was downtown at Krenzler Field.

Yes. They also play at Finney Stadium (Baldwin Wallace) in Berea and at Lakewood Stadium. There was a crowd of about 500 at Lakewood earlier this month.

^ Good to know the turnout at Lakewood was decent. I also contrived to miss that game. They’ve really gotta get away from BW/ JCU. They also played a game a couple seasons ago at Krenzler that was better attended than average.

Where does the Cleveland Force SC play it's games.  I assume they are in a league above the NPSL.

Your question drove me to Google and it turns out that Force already started in USL2 this year. I thought it was planned for next year! They also play at Krenzler.

In terms of ‘levels’ someone else may be better qualified than me to answer as I can never understand the structure of US Soccer below the MLS due to the lack of promotion/ relegation and a ‘pyramid’ that exists everywhere else in the world (but that’s a whole other topic). As far as I can tell, they are at the same level, but only the USL gives a pathway to ‘maybe-one-day-never’ actually being an MLS club.

The Byzantine Empire would have been proud of the structure of US soccer.

As best I can tell, below MLS is now MLS Next Probut that only came into existence this year.

However, MLS Next Pro is a Division III league, which means it's technically below the top USL level, USL Championship, even though USL Championship teams are not formally attached to MLS teams as farm/reserve teams the way MLS Next Pro now will be.

The second tier of USL soccer, USL League One, is a Division III league just like MLS Next Pro.

The third tier of USL soccer, USL League Two, is a semi-pro league.  (Note the size difference: There are 114 USL-2 clubs, but only 11 USL-1 teams.  There are 27 in USL Championship.)  That puts it at kinda-sorta-basically the same league level as the National Premiere Soccer League (NPSL) (with 92 clubs), which is the league that Cleveland SC plays in, as well as United Premiere Soccer League (UPSL) (with around 400 clubs).  But since USSF doesn't formally recognize "Tier IV" as a thing, all semi-pro clubs and leagues are just kind of in this zone by default, above NCAA Division I but below pro Division III.

Yes, semi-professional soccer in the US really is that massive, in the sense that if you combined the three largest semi-pro leagues, you'd have around 600 teams in the league.  And I have no clue what the relevant differences are between them.

Also, while this Byzantine system is often referred to as the US soccer "pyramid," the top of the pyramid (MLS) is actually slightly larger than the next level down, since there are 28 MLS teams and 27 USL Championship teams.

There is a Cleveland there under USL Expansion. ( but it hasn't had a post for months )

Abram Bros that run the Force Fitness center on Northfield Rd were looking into buying a portion of the Norfolk Southern site that is part of a

couple of current sites that the Browns are interested in for a future stadium. ODOT was soliciting requests for that site and put everything on hold

because of Covid. If that ever materialized it would be a 10000 seat stadium with a team in USL Championship. There is a nice blog written by

KJP in October 2020. The project now sits in the abandoned projects thread.  https://neo-trans.blogspot.com/2020/10/downtown-soccer-stadium-project-takes.html

Where do they play?   Is there any news whatsoever on a downtown stadium for MLS Next Pro team

to start playing in 2025.

They are playing at George Finnie Stadium, on BW's campus, for most of their games.  They have also played a game at CWRU and at North Olmsted High School earlier in the season.
