Posted April 13, 200619 yr So the brilliant chef himself, Riverviewer (folks, he makes a MEAN porterhouse steak, mashed potatos, and asparagus [sp?]) and I embarked (with his generous pilot friend) on an hour and a half tour of Greater Cincinnati on April 11th. I have not even come close to finishing/retouching/downsizing these photos but I have to give you a teaser (with a shout out to Montecarloss). In total, I have KEPT about 200ish photos which I will eventually create a new "Aerial" section on the main Cincinnati page. Till whenever I decide to make the actual post (probably a month, the way I'm going), here are two to enjoy: And trust me folks, those aren't even my favorites (though they are nice views). :) "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 13, 200619 yr I mostly took film shots - shot six rolls, and got the main things I wanted to get with that - but did take just a couple digitals...should have switched it up a little more, but with ColDay covering the digital world, it felt...well, redundant, and somehow out of place! BTW, if you've never met someone who, from the air, moving at 100+ mph, can pick out landmarks in the distance like Downtown Frickin' Glendale and Reading's business district, come to one of the meets and say hi to ColDay...I know Cincinnati pretty well, and I had a hard time picking out Hyde Park Square - even with the Madison and the river and downtown for reference. But downtown frickin' Glendale? Christ... Also, as you can see from the relative picture quality, my shots are a poor, poor substitute for ColDay's - everyone should sign a "Post The Foockin' Aerials, ColDay" petition...maybe we should set up a poll question - "Should ColDay post his f'in aerial photos? Yes/No" Anyway, here's my unaltered, uncorrected pictures: Managed to get both a strut and my finger in this shot...it's embarrassing to post, but it's the only really wide overview I have: Licking River action... Cap that highway! It's well-connected with downtown with every N/S street crossing with really wide sidewalks, but still - cap that highway! Yeah, mine are untouched, uncropped, and unlevel! Intersectional Clusterfarg: I do like the Convention Center's "cincinnati" text: Blurry Christ Hospital, with Blurview Hill Park: Sorry for the blur and the crap, and trust me, I await ColDay's pictures with probably more anticipation than anyone!
April 13, 200619 yr Absolutely stunning photos guys. I wish the weather was a little better for you. It was a little hazy that day. I might need to get on one of these flights.
April 13, 200619 yr Yay! Good stuff, both of you! There's no way I can be patient here... I've already been impatient since RiverViewer informed me of this upcoming event last month! So ColDay, please drop everything you are doing and prepare these photos for us. And RiverViewer, if at some point there's a way to show us the film shots, please do!
April 13, 200619 yr Monte - yeah, we've been trying to get up since January, wanting a crisp winter day, and the weather just kept being uncooperative. First time it was threatening rain - it was a transitional day, and while it would have been perfect weather, we couldn't know that in time...the second time it was threatening icing, which is bad to screw around with...the third time, we tried to postpone and postpone, but the ceiling just wouldn't lift. This was about the last chance we had to go up before the leaves all came out, and since my lot is covered with trees, I wanted to get up before it was too late to see my house. Wish it had been clearer, no doubt, but it was Tuesday evening or leaves... PigBoy - yeah, I'll scan some of my better shots, no doubt. I'm going to order reprints of the better shots today - prints for the neighbors, for friends whose houses I got, then overviews that came out non-blurry - got some cool long shots of the bridges with the river threading its way downstream - then I'll get some of those scanned. But hopefully everyone will be sated by ColDay's post by then!
April 13, 200619 yr Mine's just a Canon PowerShot A60, 2MP, 3x optical zoom...nice enough for most everything I'm interested in, though it's not a good enough machine to have gotten the most out of aerials, as you can see just comparing ColDay's two shots with mine...
April 13, 200619 yr OMG! Did you guys get neighborhood shots as well? You need to post these on some of the Midwestern sites also, you know.
April 13, 200619 yr I think ColDay got just about everything imaginable...he was like, "look at the density in Bond Hill" and "there sure are some huge houses in Blue Ash" and stuff...meanwhile I'm thinking to myself, "wait a minute, is that I-71 or the Lateral?" and "no, that's too small to be the Ohio river..." Only thing we couldn't get was the west side...CVG has a radius of 5.75 miles of Class A restricted airspace, and we were only cleared for their Class B (I think I have the letters right). I'm sure Chris got some shots out of that side of the plane while we were over downtown and the West End, but Northside is the furthest west that we were able to fly.
April 13, 200619 yr Yeah, I pretty much got almost every "section" of neighborhoods in north and east Cincinnati city and suburbs. We obviously couldn't go west due to CVG's restrictions (sorry grasscat). I'll post it when I'm ready :). Otherwise, RIVERVIEWER, YOU post your photos! I can't wait for more! April 13, 200619 yr Actually, that's all the digital pictures I took...I suck. I did get my film prints back, but first priority was getting reprints and enlargements...next step I'll go somewhere and scan them...
April 13, 200619 yr Wow those are amazing! I know that at Kings Island you can take a helicopter ride all the way downtown for 100 and somethhing dollars. I always wanted to do that. These pictures are really good at showing the high density downtown. I can't wait to see the rest :)
April 14, 200619 yr Riverviewer, put me down for some greenery shots. We can talk more offline or during the Cincy Meet on May 20th. ...And David your Three Way avatar looks yum.
April 19, 200619 yr Start waiting; it's Midterm weeks. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
