patricia heaton stars in a new abc tv show called the middle.

Patricia Heaton Q&A On Her New ABC Series 'The Middle'

August 26th, 2009

Patricia Heaton is back with another TV comedy. Now, we know what you're thinking. She already tried to follow up Everybody Loves Raymond with Back to You, that newsroom comedy. Well, this one is back in her wheelhouse.

ABC's The Middle stars Heaton as a married mother raising her family in middle America. Each of her kids have their own special demands, and the first episode already has her wearing a Superwoman costume for a last minute school presentation.

As a working mom herself, Heaton knows The Middle is all too real. She was happy to share her experiences, both real and dramatized, in anticipation of this fall's new comedy. more:

congrats to surfohio for knock'em dead last night with their cleveland surfing documentary 'out of place' at the first ny surf film festival in tribeca in manhattan!

this obvious labor of love documentary really captured the scene and the stories of all the surfers perfectly. it has local music too and wow did the clev look cool.

out of place is everything a documentary is ideally supposed to be -- obviously we loved it, great job.

"Out of Place, by Scott Ditzenberger, is an insider’s perspective of the small, underground community of surfers in Cleveland, Ohio.  Theirs is a life of shared dedication for the water and to waves that rarely come.  In the backdrop is a Great Lakes city trying to recover from a legacy of lost industry, lost jobs and a river polluted enough to catch on fire. Still this culture persists in this unlikely corner of the surfing universe amid harsh weather and gray skies.  For them, the golden era of surfing is right now.  And it’s happening on the frozen beaches of Lake Erie, five hundred miles from the nearest ocean."

I think that is "Surf Ohio", urbansurf is from Columbus (i think).

yeah i think you are right so i changed it.

Thanks so much for the kind words mrnyc!! This past weekend at the festival was the highlight of my life. New York is filled with so many kind and generous people I can't wait to get back. It was so great getting the chance to meet you on Sunday. It really meant a lot for us to get some Cleveland support down in Tribeca...unreal, thank you again.

Woohooo

[glow=red,2,300]CONGRATULATIONS!!!  [/glow]

The random good stories about Cleveland are becoming more frequent, and becoming a mosaic for the outside world to view our community.

Thanks for contributing to it, I wish you continued success!!!

Good for You!

Congratulations! That is quite an achievement.

Thanks guys. I have to say again that everyone in New York was just amazing. Lots of love for C-town, they treated so well from the moment we got there.  We were real underdogs going into this festival, now things are really looking up for us. The awards party was packed and held at a swanky gallery owned by Red Bull and it was open bar. When the emcee announced that we won it was chaos, everyone in the place was so glad for us. I'll never forget it.

Also it was such a rush to meet all kinds of people who are interested in Cleveland- people who have never been to Ohio, but came away really loving our city. And I met other ex-pat Ohioans who were curios about the movie and dropped in. I think my favorite memory (aside from meeting mrnyc of course) was that someone in the theatre recognized Hessler Street in the film and screamed "All right!"

Thanks again urbanohio, can't wait to (fingers crossed) premier locally at Cleveland Intl. FF.

Scott aka surfohio

"all right"!

wow, congrats on the award surf. while we didn't see the other films, i can certainly vouch that the audience loved yours enthusiastically so i am not at all surprised.

yeah i loved that hessler street part too, "look, wood streets (knock, knock)!," that was funny, but we yelled out early on for hodad's record shop of course!

Oh yeah, I loved the Hodads appreciation mrnyc!!

I screened LeBrons movie.  It's pretty good!

surfohio congrats. hopefully it will mitigate the the bitter, albiet tiny,  bomb Michael Moore dropped on the Cleve in his new movie.

... great post, RocknRoller!

Nehst Studios was announcing back in 2007 that it had funding for a slate of new films ranging from 2MM to 50MM “to shoot within the next two years”.  In addition they spun off two other services, PitchNehst.com (where you can pay $10 to pitch them) and Screentest.biz, where actors can pay $ to upload photos and videos in the hopes of being cast in a project. Screentest.biz assures it will only allow funded, greenlit projects to access actors’ profiles. (Interestingly, the only TV project listed is Nehst’s own Dribble Kick Throw, which it first announced casting for in 2007.  On Screentest.biz, the project lists a 2008 release date.)

The only two projects listed to date on the Nehst site are 2008’s Running The Sahara and the upcoming Article 32, both quiet documentaries. Not exactly the slate of multi-million dollar blockbusters Nehst seemed to be promising.

Charging fees to audition and pitch is pure scammism!!

^That article pretty much sums up what we knew was going on between Forest City and the PD during the convention center fiasco, which Nesht was conveniently a part of.  Sorry to get off topic, but it just aggravates me to no end.

We've all see it, the Hastily Made Cleveland Tourism Video on youtube. Now the world will see it, as Michael Moore has included it in his latest movie.

Capitalism is definitly worth seeing, by the way.

Just a reminder this Monday:

Monday night at 10pm, Chef Heather Haviland will be mixing it up with Guy Fieri on the season premiere of Diners, Drive-Inns, and Dives on the Food Network.

http://luckyscafe.com/

I watch DD&D every week, and rarely have I seen Guy so in awe of a place's food as he was with Lucky's...especially how ridiculously homemade everything is.

Mike Symon popping in was a nice touch.

Speaking of homemade ingredients, I had no idea that was how you made Thousand Island dressing...

I am waiting for the MELT episode....

I know guys that I'm living in the past- it's fun, but the media from the New York Surf Film Festival is starting to emerge...surfers are notorious slackers.

a sample of the glittery nyc crazy-ness:  New York Surf Film Festival 2009

The best part is at 3:50, ha ha.

We've just submitted to Sundance, a stretch, but we gotta at least try! And we're submitting to Cleveland Intl. this week. It would be so amazing to premier locally at the Cleveland Festival, it's drawing more people and getting even better with each passing year. If we're fortunate enough to get into Cleveland, you can bet it will be a ridiculous party. I'll get a block of rooms downtown for sure!!

Help me with Lucky's here...when I worked at the Treehouse in 2001 there was a late night breakfast place kind of caddy corner from Lola.  It burned down.  I though that was lucky's.  I thought this was the rebuilt restaurant, but I don't recognize Heather from the photo on the website.

Was I that drunk in late 2001?

Hmmm. I could be totally wrong ... I didn't move to Cleveland until 2002, but are you maybe thinking of Grumpy's; I believe they did sustain some pretty bad fire damage and subsequently reopened ... But it's located over by Lava Lounge.

YES I AM!!!

thanks

TV Land warms to 'Hot in Cleveland' idea

By Mark Dawidziak, The Plain Dealer

October 26, 2009, 11:15AM

We're bracing for a long, cold winter, but TV Land is attempting to turn up the comedy heat with a project called "Hot in Cleveland." Will they be laughing at us? Will we be laughing with them? Will it even make it on the air?

More at cleveland.com:

Sounds like a Flee to the Cleve (30Rock) spinoff.  I'm not sure how far a poke fun a Midwesterners comedy can go, but maybe it'll be more than that.

"Hot in Cleveland" comes from scribe Suzanne Martin ("Frasier") and Hazy Mills Prods., headed by Hayes and Todd Milliner. Pilot revolves around three fortysomething femme friends from L.A. who wind up stuck in Cleveland and decide to stay there when they realize the locals consider them glamorous.

Sounds awful...it just plays into the old stereotype that all midwesterners are country bumpkins. It's stupid and played out. "Wooooow...middle-aged cougars from L.A. They're so glamorous and cool." Sounds like a real interesting show. Lmao!!!!

Well if it makes it, I can't wait for the episode where one of the main characters discovers she has gained 10 lbs from eating pirogies and then discovers the joy of hiding one's winter fat under a sweater. :-D :-D

The Parkview is being featured on diners, drive ins, and dives as soon as this commercial is over...

Thanks McCleveland, now i'm starving! It looks like the next episode of 'Dinner Impossible' is at the Rock Hall.

I hope that was sarcasm.  It was painful to watch and I feel so very sorry for that young lady.  On the flip side, she's been thrown into the role as "spokesperson" for domestic violence in Ohio, which she seems to embrace.

Many of my cousins children attend Lincoln-West and knew those kids.  That boy threw his life away and attempted to ruin, correction, end another persons life.

^^^  I wish I would have known this was on Turner.  It was filmed (admittedly years before I was born) 2 houses down across the street from where I grew up.  Oh well, I will continue to keep my eyes peeled for other showings.

One Potato, Two Potato will be re-aired on Turner Classic Movies this Friday, Nov. 20, at 8:00 pm: http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article/?cid=253402

Wow, being from California I had the same experience when I moved here [sarcasm].  Seriously, get over yourselves Hollywood.

How did the benefit go? I had really hoped to attend, but it didn't work out. We need an UrbanOhio screening :)

Oh man, it was a lot of fun...but a lot of work too.

I am still pretty overwhelmed, even in this economy there were so many cool businesses willing to donate in support of a local film.

I'll see what I can do about a private, uo screening!!!

If anyone missed it, here's the Lucky's Cafe bit on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives:

Not sure if this one is up yet though...if someone wants to search...

I'll try to divert the thread to something more benign like racial tensions in the 60's--lol. Don't know if anyone bothered to watch One Potato Two Potato as per my suggestion (probably not :-(), but here's a little clip featuring the Lake County Courthouse. I always wondered if the interior scene was also filmed there, but upon close inspection, I conclude that it was. I don't think you could have found Hollywood extras that looked as dorky as the Ohioans--oops, I mean Painesvillians--shown here! Like I had said, it was a low budget film (sorry no embedding for me yet, the fatwa continues):

Michael Symon to appear on 'Letterman' tonight

By Joe Crea, The Plain Dealer

December 22, 2009, 6:00AM

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Apparently somebody at Worldwide Pants got a kick out of Michael Symon. Tonight, Cleveland's Iron Chef will appear on "Late Night With David Letterman" on CBS.

The show airs at 11:35 p.m. on WOIO Channel 19 in Cleveland.
