Seen it, but I'm surprised it's not on youtube yet.

'Hot in Cleveland' will end after its 6th season.  It had a good run.

"Hot in Cleveland" is a cute show, and for the first couple seasons, I was a regular.  It kinda ran out of steam, though, and the laughs weren't quite as strong. ... Nevertheless, it was very likable and generally well done, and the characters were memorable and funny (Wendie Malick's wacky "Victoria Chase" stole the show, imho, although Betty was, of course, no slouch either ... at the tender age of 90-whatever!).  One of Victoria's great in-character lines: "... and they'll also be featuring the Clevleand Browns, whatever that is."...  I enjoyed the exteriors from around town, esp their favorite girl's night out bar: GLBC (I know Great Lakes LOVED the national visibility).  I also, of course, enjoyed the local references: like Wayne Knight's character being an editor for the Plain Dealer...  ... HIC had a live broadcast which, unfortunately, I didn't see.  I was hoping they would do at least one show on-location in Cleveland, but I guess it was not meant to be... Still, the show was good pub for the City as it depicted the town in fun but respectful manner.  It had a nice run -- I'm sure HIC will be sorely missed by all those older, less/non-working actors from yesteryear who were able to show his/her faces ... and earn a fast paycheck to boot.

When the star that holds the show together is in her 90s, the show's inevitably going to have a limited run.

^As far as I know, Betty White is still going strong; could probably work another 6 years if she wanted to.  People are living longer.  But she's got to be in the Guinness book of World Records ... for sitcoms.

It's not necessarily a matter of ill health, she just may need a break.  Can't blame her one bit if that's the case.

Everyone has their opinion, but I thought that Hot in Cleveland was absolutely terrible. I watched for about 4-5 episodes, but I felt it was a dud after the first episode and only stuck around for a bit longer to see what other local references they would make. The jokes they made were cliché, the story lines were unoriginal, and most of the characters were annoying and unlikeable. If I hadn't opened this thread, I would have never guessed that the show lasted six seasons; most shows like that are axed much sooner.

To be fair, their demographic isn't looking for the Wire or anything.

'Drunk History' Heads to New Orleans, Las Vegas, Cleveland, and More Next Season

Hell, since I spent nearly three decades in my 20s and am actually somewhat of a history buff I would have been ideal, prior to October 2010....

And too bad the eligibility rules are you have to live in Cleveland present day.  I'd fly in for sure if allowed!

What stories do you think will be covered?

Even though I'm talking to myself it seems...OK I'll take a stab at it! :D  IMO subjects covered will be:

- 10-cent beer night

- Burning of the Cuyahoga River

- Danny Greene vs the Italian Mafia

Honorable mention guesses (the drive/the fumble, Superman creation)

You're forgetting Moses Cleaveland...came there, stayed for ten minutes...left.

The city proper?  Interesting.

The stories you mentioned certainly.  The Pound in general certainly, including Bottlegate.  The rise and fall of the Flats.  Maybe something on the corruption trials but that doesn't really fit the narrative.  The influence of WMMS and the concerts of that era perhaps.

I don't know if anyone knew this , but I just read that the director Paul Thomas Anderson is the son of Ghoulardi.  I didn't know he had that Cleveland connection.  PTA directed Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood, The Master and Punch Drunk Love, among others. His new film Inherent Vice just opened.

^yeah, I knew that. After being "Ghoulardi," Ernie Anderson went to Hollywood and became a famous (and apparently very rich) voice-over actor. I guess his son must have made all the appropriate connections to become a big success himself.

"Ghouliardi" was a clue in the Halloween themed LA Times crossword puzzle. I found it strange that anyone outside of NEO would've known that one.

Ernie Anderson did the ABC voice-overs - that was him saying "Next on the Love Boat...."

Tonight on "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart interviewed Paul McCartney.  He asked him if he was going to Ringo Starr's induction to the Rock Hall.

Jon Stewart: "Where do they hold the ceremonies...New York?"

Paul McCartney: "...I'm not sure."

Ouch...

Was watching "Dora and Friends" (The Magic Ring episode- amazing, would highly recommend!) with my 2 year old today, and noticed that the city skyline silhouette in the closing credits was quite clearly Cleveland, OH.  Were on the map with the toddler scene.

LeBron James to Launch New TV Game Show, Casting to Take Place in Cleveland on Saturday

In case you haven't heard, LeBron James is in cahoots with NBC to create a new prime-time game show, offering up to seven figure payouts, sources claim.

The gist of the game show is this:

Wannabe contestants apply with a friend, spouse, or family member with the hopes of competing in pairs to win "life-changing amounts of money" in contests of knowledge and luck.

Plug pulled on Bruce Willis' 'Wake' movie shoot in Greater Cleveland

By Clint O'Connor, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer

on February 25, 2015 at 4:20 PM, updated February 26, 2015 at 5:52 PM

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Maybe shooting a movie in the dead chill of winter wasn't such a hot idea.

"Wake," the thriller starring Bruce Willis and Ben Kinsgley, has shuttered production. The film, which had been shooting in Greater Cleveland since Feb. 16 and was expected to continue through mid-April, has closed down, according to several sources.

The reason being cited is that the funds have dried up on the independent production.

This article frustrates me because it doesn't answer the question as to potential ways to create this infrastructure. Does anyone know who needs to invest in this infrastructure and how feasible it is?

"Without sound stages we cannot compete," said Schwarz. "Without permanent infrastructure we cannot compete. If we build this infrastructure, and we create these jobs. We are talking about 2,000-3,000 new jobs that do not exist in Northeast Ohio. We are talking about new companies that will move here that currently do not exist in Northeast Ohio and in Ohio period."

I was watching the movie adaptation of Jersey Boys and there is a scene where the group is at what appeared to be the Ohio State Fair, which would've still been Columbus in the late 50s, right?  Some Sheriff Deputy approaches them and says "welcome to Cleveland."  The patch on his shoulder says Stark County

A friend of mine who is a Hollywood camera man tells me it's predominately lack of permanent soundstages.  He told me while he was here helping film the first Avengers movie, "if Cleveland would use some empty industrial buildings converted to permanant soundstages, they be light years ahead of other mid-size and large cities."

Also, there are very few companies in town who handle the auxiliary/supporting industries for the movie industry...costumes, camera repair/replacement, explosives, etc (NOTE: I really don't know auxiliary industries, but he did mention this as lacking).  So unless local industries realign or are created, movie productions bring in outside companies/support.  One good example I can think of in terms of "realigning" are the pneumatic and hydraulic industries.  I've involved with a fluid power outfit in Burbank, CA who has built hydraulic power units used for special effects in movies such as Titanic and Pirates of the Caribbean.  With Cleveland's large industrial past and present (cough, cough...global leaders Eaton Corp and Parker Hannifin...cough, cough...), it would be a sin if companies outside of the region were flown in to do this type of system design and manufacturing work for special effects.

Here are some soundstage offerings I found from other cities:

Boston: http://nestudios.com/

Palm Beach, FL: http://www.gstarstudios.com/

Atlanta: http://www.pinewoodgroup.com/our-studios/usa/pinewood-atlanta-studios

Burbank, CA: http://studiofacilities.warnerbros.com/stages-sets/sound-stages/

Did anybody see "Cleveland Abduction" on Lifetime on Saturday?

I thought it was raw, realistic and hard to watch -- great performances, especially Raymond Cruz, who effectively depicted monster Ariel Castro -- Emmy caliber stuff imho... And aside from the obvious horror of the story, it definitely was filmed on Cleveland streets -- with snippets of University Circle (at the Lagoon, although weirdly ignoring the spectacular Art Museum that crowns it), Edgewater Park, and had a distinct Cleveland, especially West Side Cleveland, feel in the housing, neighborhoods and commercial districts.  And apparently (I didn't follow the production of this project) the courtroom scene was filmed in an actual Justice Center courtroom.

All in all it was well done-- better than I expected.  And as horrible as the subject matter was, in the end it was positive -- not just for the obvious extreme courage and heroics of the 3 women, but the ultimate humanity of the City and her people for keeping the hunt for the women alive all those years and also in the City's embracing them thoroughly once they escaped.  In particular, the scene where the lady cop marches scared, shell-shocked (and visually impaired-- he smashed her glasses the day he abducted her) Michelle down Castro's long horrible stairs into daylight and freedom, was a keeper.

It's a bittersweet evening for me - the last episode of 'Hot in Cleveland' is airing tonight at 10pm on TV Land. As you may or may not know, a photo I took from CSU's Rhodes Tower on a lunch break in 2006 ended up as the opening graphic for the show. That lead to a series of events that could only be described as 'bucket list' material (meeting the cast, the show being aired in over 200 countries, etc.). I guess there's some truth to the saying "don't be sad it's ending; be glad it happened".  :|

I only found out recently that Rachel Sweet, who had a bunch of regional hits (and a couple national) for Stiff Records during the early 80s, was one of the writers and executive producers.  She did similar work for Seinfeld.

Lots of open land near the "Opportunity Cooridor."    Mayor Jackson should put together a "Public-Private" partnership, and build a huge, open-span warehouse building.  Does Mayor Jackson do those kind of things?

And it will be in reruns for many years. So someday when you're old, sitting at the bar in Great Lakes Brewing Company and telling life-experience stories, you can always point to this TV show as exhibit A in your evidentiary hearings over bottles of Burning River.

Drove down St. Clair Avenue near East 40th Street and came upon a significant amount of trailers as well as tell-tell signs posted on various utility poles. There was obviously some movie making magic going on there. Anyone know what movies is being filmed?

^ Is "My Blind Brother" still filming in Cleveland? I saw Nick Kroll and Jenny Slate walking in Tremont a few weeks ago. Maybe that's what they were filming.

The wrap party was last week.

I heard that the Food Network was supposed to be at Hodge's yesterday.  Not sure which show.

This movie has been filming next door to my office for the past 2 weeks and is supposed to be there through the first week of July.  Lots of activity but they are also tight lipped about what's filming. No one in the office has been able to find out yet.

Michael Symon's new TV show debued a couple days ago and featured Cleveland and the Flying Fig restaurant. Burgers, Brew and 'Que is, if I recall correctly, the name of the show.

Not everyone knows that Alternative Press magazine was founded and has flourished in Cleveland for over 30 years. Tomorrow the 2nd annual AP Awards will be broadcast live from the 'Q' on AXS TV. This is an international music event that many cities would pay big money for. Hopefully it can stay here a long time. Check out the event page at AXS as there are a lot of bands downtown right now and some of them are posting Instagram's from there time here.

I mentioned that upthread after the first episode. He's done 4 episodes now and features a Cleveland restaurant in each episode. He basically only goes to Cleveland, Nashville and NYC.
