December 22, 200915 yr Not TV, but Tony Rizzo and the Really Big Show have been asked to guest host Jim Rome's radio spot again next week. They did this back in September as well. So now the whole nation gets to hear Aaron - I have a job because mommy and daddy are friends with the boss - Goldhammer hate on Cleveland sports.
December 22, 200915 yr I'll try to divert the thread to something more benign like racial tensions in the 60's--lol. Don't know if anyone bothered to watch One Potato Two Potato as per my suggestion (probably not :-(), but here's a little clip featuring the Lake County Courthouse. I always wondered if the interior scene was also filmed there, but upon close inspection, I conclude that it was. I don't think you could have found Hollywood extras that looked as dorky as the Ohioans--oops, I mean Painesvillians--shown here! Like I had said, it was a low budget film (sorry no embedding for me yet, the fatwa continues): evdon were there any other obvious ne ohio scenes in the movie? imdb sez it was filmed in painesville and the clev. i'm pretty sure they showed this on the 'prize movie' in the 70's. There was a scene in front of the old movie theater downtown (Lake Theater, long demolished) I recall; and this nighttime one in the park downtown, with Painesville City Hall in the background (with the white pillars). The Lake Co. Courthouse from the earlier post--not seen here--would be on the right of the screen. But I guess unless you were from Painesville you wouldn't guess it was NE Ohio. I don't recall which scenes were filmed in Cleveland, but I had heard there were some: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6WeLYRrViw&hl=en_US&fs=1& http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
December 23, 200915 yr I put on Lettermen last night. Could be mistaken, but it seemed like Symon got totally dissed. When Lettermen returned for his final segment, he stated that some chef named Michael Symon was supposed to be a guest but that they were out of time and could not have him. He sarcastically held up Symon's new book like he was being forced/paid to do so and did a sad little plug he was obviously not interested in doing. Real sarcastic about it. Mentioned that Symon was there with his whole family but now they would have to go home. What didn't make sense is that in the time he did all this, he could have brought Symon out to waive at the crowd and hold the book up himself.

How knows what the Producer/Director had going. "Live" TV isn't as cut and dry as one thinks it is.
December 23, 200915 yr I watched the first portion of Letterman last night and he was awful. I've never been a fan, but I have to believe it was an off night. I decided to go do something else since he only mentioned Susan Suranden and didn't allude to anything else.

"Eh, sorry we ran out of time but plugging his book is better than having him on anyway...but he can come back anytime he wants."
December 26, 200915 yr we watched 'the man who came to dinner (1942)' on cable -- it's set in a fictitious town an hour outside of cleveland. hilarious movie, highly recommended -- it was written by george kaufman, the playwright and one of the infamous new yorker magazine algonquin round table habitues, so its full of that kind of humor: Bertram H. 'Bert' Jefferson: How do you think Ohio women stack up? Sheriden Whiteside: I've never gone in for stacking women up so I really can't say. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033874/

January 5, 201015 yr On Behalf Of Ohio Department of Development Sent: Tuesday, January 05, 2010 2:14 PM Subject: 01.05.10 - News Release - Films Shooting In Ohio Bring Jobs and Economic Boost For Immediate Release January 5, 2010 FILMS SHOOTING IN OHIO BRING JOBS AND ECONOMIC BOOST Columbus – Director of the Ohio Department of Development Lisa Patt-McDaniel today announced nearly $7 million in motion picture tax credits that are being made available to four Ohio movie productions to encourage companies to utilize Ohio’s assets for their films. “Ohio is already seeing an economic boost from the production of these films,” said Patt-McDaniel. “Ohioans are getting a chance to be part of the motion picture industry and generate income for their families. Production crews are also utilizing restaurants, hotels, and other businesses in several Ohio communities.” The tax credits provide positive incentives to make movies in the State of Ohio, which create employment opportunities and generate revenue for the communities serving as film sets. “The interest in filming in Ohio has grown exponentially in the past few months due in large part to the new Motion Picture Tax Credit program,” said Jeremy Henthorn, Director of the Ohio Film Office. “With more production companies actively preparing film tax credit applications, this year will be a busy one for Ohio vendors and citizens.” The productions include “Unstoppable,” a large budget blockbuster from Twentieth Century Fox starring Denzel Washington, with the premise of an unmanned runaway train carrying toxic chemicals about to derail near a town. The film was shot during the months of November and December in several eastern and southeastern Ohio locations. Twentieth Century Fox extended the number of shooting days in Ohio due to the newly enacted Motion Picture Tax Credit program. There are also three independent films in the works from Cleveland-based company, Nehst Studios. The films receiving tax credits are “The Kid Who Only Hit Homers,” a movie based on a set of popular children’s books; the horror sequel “Strangeland 2”; and a Vivica A. Fox project called “Cleopatra Smiles.” All the independent films will be shot in Cuyahoga County. In total, the four movies are expected to employ nearly 3,000 Ohioans as part of the production crews and extras. The films are also estimated to bring roughly $25 million in economic activity to the state. In order to be eligible for the tax credit, the production companies must show reviewable progress to the Ohio Film Office within 90 days of receiving the notification letter. In addition, they will only receive the tax credit upon the completion of production. The Ohio Film Office, housed within the Ohio Department of Development, administers the film tax credits, which are made possible through legislation passed by the Ohio General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Ted Strickland on July 17, 2009. A total of $30 million in tax credits are available for interested production companies in FY 2010-2011. For more information visit www.discoverohiofilm.com. Working with our partners across business, state and local governments, academia, and the nonprofit sector, the Ohio Department of Development works to attract, create, grow, and retain businesses through competitive incentives and targeted investments. Filming on the pilot episode begins in February. http://www.cleveland.com/tv/index.ssf/2010/01/valerie_bertinelli_jane_leeves.html
January 16, 201015 yr ^ Interesting concept. Discovering a 'best kept secret' place that even locals do not fully appreciate as evidence in yet another assmblege of pathetic inferiority complex comments on the "PAIN Dealer's" Cleveland Dot Bomb website. This is always this city's biggest problem.... Many of the locals who think everyone else is thinking bad things about their city----when in reality they often think nothing...bad nor good...don't give a hoot and have no opinion either way until the never failing welcoming Cleveland/N.E. Ohio inferiority complex gives them a reason to think something bad. Did anyone notice that? :|
January 16, 201015 yr I am going to withhold judgement until I see it. When 30 Rock was going to do a Cleveland episode, I thought the worst, but then it was truly delightful.
January 16, 201015 yr Has anyone seen that movie "The Rocker"? It takes place in Cleveland and shows a lot of landmarks in the city. The first couple scenes are hilarious!
January 18, 201015 yr I saw a Comcast commercial with Shaq & Ben Stein sitting on Public Square with 200 PS and May Co. bldg in the background. I'm not sure if it is new or old but it is the first time I've seen it.
January 18, 201015 yr I saw the Rocker. Had some funny moments in it, but I thought the shots/angles of Cleveland were rather poor. And some of the sequences - like when he was wandering around the RRHOF and when the tour bus was leaving Cleveland - were geographically way off base. Not that the mass audience, or many natives to NEO, would even notice.
January 19, 201015 yr I saw the Rocker. I liked the part where (I think he was looking out of his attic window) and you could see all the roof tops and R&R HOF far in the background.
January 19, 201015 yr ... And based on the angle of that shot, his attic would have to have been somewhere on the Burke Lakefront Airport tarmac. Like I said though, it is only something a Clevelander would even notice. Totally irrelevant for Hollywood purposes. EDIT: On second thought, I suppose it could have been from Asiatown and that would have been consistent with some other scenes in the movie (like him being the favorite customer of some chinese restaraunt). But IIRC that was supposed to be when he was living at his sister's house and that particular house is not reflective of the housing stock in that area. That was one scene I was thinking of... but the bus tour scene is much more out of whack. They leave downtown Cleveland heading west on a highway and then all of a sudden they are on E 9th driving past the RRHOF.
January 19, 201015 yr No one has seen The Rocker?! Do you all live under a rock?! Never even heard of it. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
January 20, 201015 yr I've never heard of it either, but I do live under a rock, now that I'm a parent. I was able to get to the theater to see a total of 2 movies in 2009, and I didn't particularly like either one of them, though for some reason they both got great reviews (Hangover, Holmes).
January 20, 201015 yr Im surprised you guys havent heard of it, it was mentioned several times in this thread.
January 20, 201015 yr And it's a relatively family friendly movie. Not really any sex scenes, violence, or profanity. It's a movie I would have no problem keeping a 4 year old kid in the room while I watched. The geography did bother me a bit, but that happens in almost any movie set in a real city.
January 22, 201015 yr So, I wound up at Barley House last night and the DJ kept saying MTV Real World Cleveland 2011 all night long, anyone know anything more?
January 22, 201015 yr 30 rock made a little jab at Cleveland's RRHOF in last night episode "winter madness". In case anyone is curious, here is the full episode: http://www.nbc.com/30-rock/video/episodes/#vid=1195631/?__source=recent-eps-module
January 23, 201015 yr So, I wound up at Barley House last night and the DJ kept saying MTV Real World Cleveland 2011 all night long, anyone know anything more? I doubt the show will be featured in Cleveland in the near future, but Issac Stout from Real World: Sydney is from and still lives in Shaker Heights (he's always at Coventry, in particular City East), perhaps he was at Barley House and the DJ recognized him?

February 5, 201015 yr in fluffier news, there is a new Pilot being filmed called "hot in Cleveland". the premise is these pretty but underappreciated middle aged women are headed to Paris for vacation and have to land in Cleveland. In this new land, men find them hot. and the hilarity ensues I take it.
February 5, 201015 yr ^With the underlying assumption that in Cleveland we have much lower standards. It's ok, I can take it.
February 6, 201015 yr well Betty White is in it so it must be good . anyhow I don't get too bent out of shape about Cleveland being sort of sterotyped as so uncool it hip (think 30 rock). I am starting to find this premise of women feeling hot in Cleveland to be charming. Who does not like the thought of being adored? http://www.hollywoodyesterday.com/hot-in-cleveland-tv-land/ "The new comedy revolves around three fabulous, LA women of a certain age and best friends (Bertinelli, Leeves and Malick). Their lives are changed forever when their plane unexpectedly lands in Cleveland and they soon rediscover themselves in this new “promised land.” Loving their new home, the women find themselves living under one roof and battling their sassy, property caretaker, played by Betty White". classic stuff.

I know in the ocean there lots of factors that impact waves**, but are there any factor beyond certain winds make for high surf in on the lake? **loved the tsumami warning alert that showed up on my cell phone on a recent Hawaii trip. WTF?
February 10, 201015 yr Last night on Jeopardy: college campus edition: Elected in 1967, Carl B Stokes was the first African American mayor of a major U.S. city in this Ohio city. Girl 1: What is Columbus Girl 2: What is Cincinnati Girl 3: I have no idea Correct answer: CLEVELAND!!
February 10, 201015 yr ^^ SIGH! Bet they knew the Super Bowl score! I wouldnt put too much money on that. Considering Kings of Leon have been all over the radio, tv, billboards, and online this past year, all 3 missed the question asking "which band had hit singles Sex on Fire and Use Somebody in 2009",
February 10, 201015 yr I love college Jeopardy, it makes me feel almost as smart as Celebrity Jeopardy
February 15, 201015 yr The Cleveland International Film Festival schedule is now up (www.clevelandfilm.org)! And congrats to surfohio ... so excited to see that you made it in and can't wait to see the film!!!
February 16, 201015 yr When is "The Irishman" going to be released? Or has it already been released? Straight to DVD? For those who are not familiar with the film, it is the story of Danny Green (not the bball player) and the mafia here in Cleveland. I heard it was shot in Detroit though. Ray Stevenson is going to play Green. Christopher Walken is playing a loan shark who has a pivotal role. And Val Kilmer is playing a cleveland cop who befriends Green.

WTF? Tsunami Report!!! Whoa, that would bother me lol. The lake has frozen over at all the good spots, so surfing season has been on hold for the last month or so. Yes we need wind for all of our waves. On the ocean you'll get waves from storms that are thousands of miles away, so it's common to go surfing in beautiful sunny conditions. Because the Great Lakes are so much smaller in comparison, we usually only get waves when the storms are right on top of us. It can be rough, but there is something uniquely rewarding about being right in the middle of all the chaos.
February 23, 201015 yr Oh thanks 86!!! We're really working hard to promote the show. February 24, 201015 yr No worries, we are going to rent out aka "four wall" the Capitol Theatre, probably in May. So attendance is mandatory for that one Peabody :) I'm a member of CINEMA, the local filmmakers group, and we get a very reasonable rate.
February 24, 201015 yr I'm kind of geeked. Our HS intern's friend won some kind of contest called Scenarios USA and apparently Joel Schumacher is coming here to film their winning story. http://www.scenariosusa.org/ http://tinyurl.com/yzct44y
February 25, 201015 yr Search didn't turn up any hits for "Behind Bars" -- apologies if this is duplicate information [link to source] 'Behind Bars' airs tonight, featuring the Cuyahoga County jail By Donna J. Miller, Plain Dealer reporter February 25, 2010, 8:17AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office and its jail will be featured tonight in the Discovery Channel's series "Behind Bars." The show airs at 10 p.m. Thursdays and 1 a.m. Fridays on Time Warner Channel 54 in Cleveland. Discovery Channel camera crews spent four weeks in the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center covering "staff, inmates, policies and events," sheriff's spokesman John O'Brien said
February 25, 201015 yr Not exactly Cleveland, but there is also another movie about the Cleveland area that will be at the CIFF. It is called "Pinned" and its about local high school wrestlers from Lakewood High School and St. Edward High School. www.pinnedmovie.com
March 2, 201015 yr Cross-posted in the Cleveland restaurant thread --- A co-worker was at Melt on Saturday and said that "Man vs Food" had just finished taping when he got there. He said the challenge was that the guy (can't remember his name) had to eat a 3-pound grilled cheese sandwich with 14 different cheeses in a certain amount of time.
