Congrats! That's so exciting!

That's great MayDay.  Congrats.

You seem pretty stoked about it and for good reason.

MAyday where did you take that shot from? Rhodes Tower or a plane? sorry I am spacially and directionally challenged. Love how they added in blue sky, I guess our typical grey is keeping it too real

Looks like Rhodes.

Congrats Mayday!

Humble suggestion here, but maybe you could find a nice day this summer and get them the same shot without the scaffolding covering up the TT.  For a modest price of course ;)

It's not a dig against Cleveland, It's TV, I would have done the same thing.  There are pictures/images/video I change all the time.

For example, right now I'm doing something for Halloween.  I had to make a park, in full bloom, look like Fall.

First episode of the show was cute. I think it represented the city well enough as the premise would allow.

Congrats MayDay!

'Hot in Cleveland' pretty much nails us, despite a few flubs

How well does Hollywood know Cleveland? The Pop Diva uses her talons to separate the junk from the genuine in last night's premiere of TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland."

1. After crash-landing in Cleveland on their way to Paris, three friends from Los Angeles visit an unnamed watering hole by Googling "Cleveland" and "get hammered."

"This is what we came up with," says Wendy Malick (former soap star Victoria Chase), "along with some very disturbing pictures of Drew Carey" ...

‘Cleveland’ rocks

Betty White and co-stars make TV Land sitcom a keeper

By Mark A. Perigard / Review, Boston Herald

What comes between “Sex and the City” and “Golden Girls”?

For fans of female-friendly comedy, that would have to be “Hot in Cleveland.”

TV Land’s first original sitcom is the surprise of the summer, a sparkling, breezy comedy, in no small part due to the casting of this year’s It Girl, 88-year-old Betty White as a cantankerous caretaker ...

Betty White really does save the show... I thought it was pretty meh early on... but found myself laughing whenever she was on.

Enjoys it considerably less ...

Ellen Gray: 'Hot in Cleveland,' TV Land's new show, is not so hot

By Ellen Gray, Philadelphia Daily News

Daily News TV Critic

PERHAPS NOT even Drew Carey could have predicted it, but one of the hottest shows of the season is set in Ohio.

It is not, alas, TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland" ...

I thought it was kind of clever and retro styled down to laugh track which needs to go.

'Hot in Cleveland' attracts record ratings for TV Land

The debut of Hot in Cleveland posted record gains for TV Land on Wednesday, attracting 4.75 million viewers and posting triple-digit gains on the night across all key demographics. It was the most-watched telecast ever in the network’s history. The comedy starring Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and Betty White earned a 1.9 rating and averaged 2.0 million viewers among the network’s target adults 25-54 audience and also averaged 1.3 million among Women 25-54.

Hot in Cleveland is filmed in front of a live studio audience and revolves around three best friends who arrive in Cleveland on a fluke and end up making it their home.

Betty White strikes again: 'Hot in Cleveland' premieres big

New comedy series sets new records for TV Land.

Residents of Cleveland should take solace: Even if Lebron James leaves this off-season, at least the city still has Betty White, fictionally at least.

"Hot in Cleveland," TV Land's first original sitcom, premiered on Wednesday (June 16) to the largest audience in the network's history. Some of that success could conceivably be tied to Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick, but like everybody else, we'll give full credit to Betty White.

She said it was in front of a live studio audience..?  I watched it twice and thought the writing was a bit cheesy and predictable (surprising given Frasier writer and Sean Hayes), but I did enjoy it all the same with its Cleveland-ness.

boy I really thought it sounded like a laugh track. go figure. It was a bit predictable but it felt like watching an old silly sitcom.

They punch up live audiences with laugh tracks.  I didn't think much of it, unfortunately.  If it hadn't been Cleveland-centric, I would probably never watch another ep. As it does talk about Cleveland, even if only in a tertiary way, we got a Season Pass to catch all the episodes.  I did like the upshot about the women looking normal and men thinking they're hot, and when they ordered the cheese fries and the guys said oh, you must be light eaters.  I think all the women were really, really overacting and Betty White's funny, dry wit just wasn't given enough meat to rest on and it fell kind of flat.  Did anyone catch that the blonde guy was the dude from the original Dukes of Hazzard?  I didn't even recognize him.

I am very happy it had big time viewership for TV Land.  Hopefully that means they'll actually give it a chance to develop :).

well, they've advertised the crap out of it.  I think I've seen more press on this show (from outside cleveland too) than just about any show ever, that wasn't on one of the "big 3" networks.

I know they did.  My dad said they sponsored the friggin' traffic report on KMOX (St. Louis) Wednesday morning!

mayday i saw your coup on ssp -- wow congrats to you!

so this is interesting. whats the deal here? how does it work for you? did you get a flat fee? per episode fee? ad use fee? did you have someone look over the contract for you? oh and of course how much $?

... oh and of course how much $?

How gauche!

Congratulations MayDay!!!!

Just curious, if Ms. Dambidness would be willing to divulge this, but typically is it a flat fee, or a fee per broadcast?

Should be a flat fee for the season, but there are variables.  It all depends on how the contract was structured.

They punch up live audiences with laugh tracks. I didn't think much of it, unfortunately. If it hadn't been Cleveland-centric, I would probably never watch another ep. As it does talk about Cleveland, even if only in a tertiary way, we got a Season Pass to catch all the episodes. I finally watched it last night.  You could almost anticipate the dialogue and the puchlines.  Of course it was just the pilot show so hopefully the writing gets more creative.  Otherwise those jokes will only go so far.

Did anyone catch that the blonde guy was the dude from the original Dukes of Hazzard?  I didn't even recognize him.

Woah!  You're right..... John Schneider, A.K.A. "Bo Duke!"

And yes...why does it seem there is some kind of obligation to pass on the same old same old Cleveland jokes? That, in itself is a joke! I still don't like the picture image in the opening. (No offense/nothing personal if that was MayDay's work, I wouldn't care for it no matter who took it.....just never liked that shot) Its the kind of thing that may look nice to those who have grown up here...or strike a chord, but for a national audience.... I would have selected something else. To me, it simply conjures up more of the same old rust belt images...and we have enough of that image to go around the world 10 times over...while not enough to showcase other dynamics of the city/region.

To each their own, but that is my favorite perspective, it makes it look like we have more than 3 buildings downtown

^ Maybe I am missing something....  I could be mistaken... Can I see the photo in question? Nevermind...saw it... Somehow, it is not the photo I remember.

EC, Mayday posted it on the previous page.  Post #843.

I know..thanks... I was thinking of another photo I saw and this was not the one. My mistake.

Man vs Food on the Travel Channel airing the Cleveland episode Wednesday at 9.

^^ Thanks!

And then Wednesday at 10...

TV Land tries to build on strong 'Hot in Cleveland' debut

Published: Monday, June 21, 2010, 10:08 PM

Mark Dawidziak, The Plain Dealer

Can TV Land's "Hot in Cleveland" maintain the heat generated by last Wednesday's sizzling debut? That's the question hanging over the cable sitcom's second episode, which airs at 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Titled "Who's Your Mama?", this second of 10 first-season episodes finds "eyebrow archer to the stars" Joy (Jane Leeves) dating a much younger man from Cleveland. But her new relationship ends up exposing an old secret.

http://www.cleveland.com/tv-blog/index.ssf/2010/06/tv_land_tries_to_build_on_strong_hot_in_cleveland_debut.html

Oh man, as cool as all of this Hot in Cleveland hype is, I am in shock as to how awful the 1st episode turned out to be.  It took a little while for Drew Carey to get rolling (probably when Craig Ferguson joined the cast) so maybe HIC's quality will improve as well.  It certainly pulled in great ratings thanks to Betty and there is a ton of momentum going right now.

But seriously, what a horrible horrible pilot.  Other than Betty White and a cute  concept, I think there needs to be some serious rewrites and cast changes.  Jane Leeves in particular is awful.

So to recap...TONIGHTS programming (Wed., Jun 23)

9 PM -- "Man VS Food" Cleveland Episode (Travel Channel)

10 PM -- "Hot in Cleveland" Episode 2 (TV Land)

No reason to go out tonight... ;)

Man V Food FTW!

Reviews on "Man VS Food"  or "Hot in Cleveland" anyone??

Man VS Food was awesome.  It included the West Side Market (Gyro's) and Hot Sauce Williams as well as the Melt challenge.  That Matt Fish is a star.  The crowd at Melt looked pretty rough though.  Must have been Matt's friends.  They have additional footage on the "Man vs Food" website.

Hot in Cleveland may have been better than last week.  I will keep watching though.  They showed the house that they are renting, and it looked like that giant white victorian at the corner of Lake and Nicholson in Lakewood (although I guess could have been any house anywhere)

Reviews on "Man VS Food"  or "Hot in Cleveland" anyone??

I enjoyed them both on the whole, although I did not enjoy seeing the obvious racial separation between Cleveland restaurants (Melt vs. Hot Sauce Williams) or the implication that everyone in Cleveland is fat (the shorts comment in Hot in Cleveland).

OMG, we all commented on the racial segregation of the restaurants (Not one white person in HSW and not one black person in Melt (although there was a big guy with nose rings)....

and yeah, in Hot in Cleve, it may grow old real quick if they just try to make Cleveland look like a bunch of hicks compared to LA....  As long as they balance it with positives, like the Cleveland guy that Jane Leeves went out with....

Well I for one (white person) was thinking about getting a polish boy from HSW tonight.  Hopefully they are not too packed.

The MELT crowd was by special invite for those who had gotten the MELT tattoos and I guess the rest were  Matt's friends. I imagine the HSW crowd was probably their favorite patrons too. I know they shot the MELT segment at 10 AM on a Saturday which isn't even normal business hours.

I am with Cory on the Polish boy, although I will probably wait a few days. The WSM looked great. As usual.

Hot in CLE is DVR'd I will share my thoughts when I get to watch it.

Willyboy, the crowd at MELT looked rough? Hipster, maybe, but rough? I loved how they kept filming the same 3 or 4 girls.
