I recall seeing a black women on the Melt episode- quite attractive too, she was showing off her tats.

Well I for one (white person) was thinking about getting a polish boy from HSW tonight. Hopefully they are not too packed.

Oh, I eat there too, and I'm white.  It really probably did boil down to having VIP-type people there for a either restaurant, cause I've never seen Hot Sauce Williams that packed.

^ Yeah, that's what stood out most to me.  Not really who was there, but that there were so many people there...never seen it that crowded!

If this keeps up, one of these days Cleveland's going to have some kind of restaurant district

so the jist of hot in cleveland is clevelanders are fat and/or unattractive. And Man V Food did not do too much to dispell that. Love the publicity though!

That's not what I take away from the show, though I see what you're saying. I think it's more like the part in the 30 Rock episode where Tina Fey's character comes to Cleveland, gets a call from work and she tries to diffuse her high-strung co-worker over the phone, and she realizes that in Cleveland, she can let her hair down a little. Not saying that I'm seeing this show sweeping the awards and curing cancer, but it's good for some laughs - especially with Betty White's delivery. I mean, we're two episodes in, and it's just the first season - give it time!

I am not complaining nor the least bit insulted. truth be told many  clevers can not and should not or should not wear shorts...and I do find the HIC/30 rock concept charming. plus the opening graphics are the bomb.

Happened to drive by Hot Sauce Williams around 5:30 last night...there was a line out the door!  Talk about instant marketing!

I know, I was thinking before M vs. F aired that I hadn't been to Hot Sauce Williams in a while.  Now I'm not sure if I want to go for another while yet :(

Hot in Cleveland is pretty lame in my opinion.  Really, as someone stated, how many times can you reword the same joke of "Wow this place is so different than LA."  I think the Man Vs. Food hipster tat crowd at least made it look like there is some attitude here.  Maybe not the family friendly place with people wearing fanny packs, but whatever.

No need to wait, you can go now.  I went at 7:00 last night and it was not packed at all.

Compared to LA, everyone in Cleveland IS fat.

I agree about Hot in Cleveland...to many obvious midwest jokes, and obvious sitcom banter in general.  Hopefully, as they start to discover new things and live there a while, the city will be cast in a more positive light...kind of like how The Office pays tribute to things in Scranton PA instead of making fun of it.  Sean Hayes is from Illinois, so maybe he will help steer it that way.

It would be nice if they actually employed someone from Cleveland as a consultant for the show.  I'm sure any of us on here would be happy to participate.

The Office pays tribute to things in Scranton PA instead of making fun of it.

That show is so dull. I don't know why some people love it so much. Totally not funny.

Ya like totally

BLASPHEMY! It's witty, dry, sarcastic, and just plain hilarious. I applaud shows for not telling me when I'm supposed to laugh by using a "live studio audience" or laugh track. I can figure it out on my own thank you very much.

Anyway, I don't really see The Office paying tribute to many things Scranton, PA. Sure they talk about real Scranton things (Steamtown Mall, Lake Wallenpaupack, etc.) but it's usually in a backhanded kind of way and that's probably the way it should be. Sitcoms set in NYC and LA do the exact same thing.  Are we so high and mighty that we can't allow shows to poke fun at our city?  As Hot in Cleveland grows they'll focus much less on the city and joking about the people anyway and more about the internal stories of the main characters.

I DECLARE BANKRUPTCY!

Looks like the RRHOF will be in tonight's episode/storyline:

Huey Lewis and Amy Yasbeck are guests stars on tonight's 'Hot in Cleveland'

Published: Wednesday, July 07, 2010, 1:27 PM

Mark Dawidziak, The Plain Dealer

The "Hot in Cleveland" news is that Huey Lewis will be guest starring in tonight's episode of TV Land's first original scripted comedy, "Hot in Cleveland." It airs at 10 p.m.

Titled "The Sex That Got Away," the episode finds former soap-opera star Victoria (Wendie Malick) reuniting with an old flame (Lewis) at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame event. Meanwhile, Melanie (Valerie Bertinelli) gets up close and way too personal with her music idol, Hailey Nash (guest star Amy Yasbeck).

The episode is something of a reunion for Malick and Lewis. He guest-starred on a 2002 episode of her NBC sitcom, "Just Shoot Me." For a sneak preview of the episode, go to the TV Land website.

^^ That's awesome.

Last night's episode was definitely the funniest thus far.

How do you know they weren't east coasters returning home? :)

Hot in Cleve is getting dirtier with the jokes and puns.  Me likey .

The show has gotten funnier.  And I am happy for the publicity... and I know I read something somewhere about lawyers preventing things like this, but...

"Stormy's on Euclid", the St. Regent (which is apparently in the Sohio Building)?  They can't just, say, throw out "Johnny's Downtown", or "Around the Corner in Lakewood", or "The Ritz Downtown".  would make things seem so much more genuine, and, I would imagine be a pretty big boon to the locations they selected.

I think HIC is picking up pace, with Betty and Wendy Malik being key. Valerie Bertinelli needs to lose the cutsy Barbara Cooper schtick though as she is kind of the weak link.

Cleveland-based fashion designer Valerie Mayen (http://www.yellowcakeshop.com/index2.php) has been announced as one of the contestants on Season 8 of Project Runway: http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/season-8/designers/valerie-mayen. They have 3 videos posted, including a home tour, where she shows off her amazing live-work loft space and talks about her love of Cleveland.

In a list of Questions and Answers with Valerie, they ask her "Dream place to set up your business?", and she replies, "I'm already here. I love Cleveland! I'd like additional bases in California and South America".

Valerie is a really big advocate for the city and an incredibly talented designer; can't wait to see her represent!

Go on Girl!  They've had quite a few contestants from Cleveland over the years.

Really? I've watched all 8 seasons, and I don't think I remember any. Some people have had Cleveland as a hometown (or Painesville or whatever), but I don't think they've had anyone who was living and working in Cleveland currently.

EDIT: I just checked, and we've had Amesville, Columbus, Dayton, Painesville and Seven Hills as hometowns, but Valerie will be the second contestant to live in Ohio at the time of filming (the other was Althea in Season 6, resident of Dayton). And I think it's beyond amazing that she's also in the city proper (eastern downtown / Asiatown area), rather than the suburbs.

Regardless, yay! :)

Oscar-worthy scenes: best places to film a movie in Cleveland

When it comes to movie filming, the bright lights of Hollywood or the busy streets of New York City instantly come to mind for millions of filmgoers.

But when it comes to getting out of the studio and onto the streets to film, proud Clevelanders are making their suggestions on the best places to film movies in their town. Steven Spielberg, take note!

Bright lights of Hollywood? What about the bright lights of Toronto? Its amazing how it seems to pass for so many Great Lakes and Midwestern cities (unfortunately).

Fluff pieces are always fun to read, but in the end this article is pretty pointless.

Bright lights of Vancouver too!  Tons of stuff films there nowadays.

I hate that. You're not going to get the real feel of city Y when you're filming it in Vancouver or Toronto - unless it's supposed to take place there. "Tax incentives; logistics; blah blah blah" I don't care; make it real. It makes a big difference.

Another random reference of Cleveland in a tv show

I was watching an old boy meets world episode and Cory asked Shawn if he will be at the reunion and Shawn said he'l be in cleveland.

This is about radio, not movies or tv. My local NPR station here in LA, 89.3 KPCC, has lately been having a lot of shows underwritten by the Gund Foundation.  At least twice an hour I hear, "This show has been underwritten by the Gund Foundation, promoting Cleveland and all of Northeast Ohio."  It's nice they are promoting Cleveland, but I wish they had more of a "visit Cleveland" kind of message.  I should check out the Gund websight.

Some good selections... But "Crocker Park?"... That's a joke, right?

I heard this in DC over the weekend as well.

Not exactly the city itself, but Crain's reported today that the Clinic is going to be a category on Jeopardy this Friday (July 30.)

For two hundred dollars: Toby Cosgrove's real first name! ;)

'Project Runway's' Cleveland designer Valerie Mayen says this season will be dramatic

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Andrea Simakis, The Plain Dealer

Inside Valerie Mayen's cavernous warehouse studio on East 30th Street in Cleveland is a wall covered with a series of dry erase boards, a massive "to do" list. (Some notations required the writer to stand on her tiptoes) ...

... [Mayen] "I talk about Cleveland a lot in the show, actually -- I was really, really boasting about Cleveland" ...

... More at http://www.cleveland.com/style/index.ssf/2010/07/project_runways_cleveland_desi.html.

And don't forget to vote for Valerie for Fan Favorite (http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/season-8/designers/valerie-mayen, by "Facebook liking" her) and tune in for Project Runway tonight at 9 on Lifetime :)
