I understand there is a movie being filmed today and tomorrow that involves salsa dancing.  I actually salsa dance with the movie's choreographer and one of the extras - I think filming is downtown on East 50something?  It's definitely an independent film, and I have no idea what the movie is about, exactly where it's being shot, or if it's being filmed in Cleveland entirely, but there is something going on...somewhere and it involves a lot of dancing.

I saw a movie crew with cameras hooked up to a truck towing a car Sunday morning on West 9th and the hill going down into the Flats. I also noticed something on East 9th in front of Amtrust Tower that almost looked like movie trucks.  This was earlier in the week around 5:30pm. Curious if this was related.

The producers chose Cleveland because they could get access to locations that couldn't be found in other big cities. Ivan Scwartz is executive director of The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, and he says the state has also tax incentives for companies to film in Ohio.

These guys are outside my building right now.  Apparently they filmed on the 12th floor inside a unit and somewhere on the second.  Trailers are set up in the powerhouse parking lot.  They had a huge light outside in the early evening...but I left for dinner without asking and seemed to ocme back as they wrapped up.

^ Ha...not at night, no.  But here are the trailers about 10 minutes ago...they were just wrapping up breakfast when I was walking my dog.

Thank you kind Sir!  Now go down and gather inside info!

From Crains:

A production crew and a famous chef were in town last week to film Cleveland and its tourism attractions for an upcoming show that is to air by the end of this year on PBS called “Great Chefs: Destinations!”

“It's like Anthony Bourdain,'s ‘No Reservations' meets Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel and Guy (Fieri,'s) Diners Drive-Ins and Dives,” said Mike Kirk, producer of South Carolina-based Gilded Age Films, which is producing the show.

Cleveland is the ninth city to be featured on the program that films 26 cities — including seven in Europe and South America.

In addition to a city tour via Segway, the production crew also visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Great Lakes Brewing Co., Big Fun Toy Store, in Coventry and Little Italy.

This must be what I saw shooting yesterday afternoon in Memorial Plaza.

I saw some of this (the movie I presume)being filmed a couple days ago riding down superior ave downtown. It was actually very interesting...a car on a trailer with all the cameras in front of it (on the same trailer). I have been meaning to try and get info b/c it was so bizarre. Motorcycle cops were surrounding it controlling traffic, I am wondering how they will edit that out.

oh  and I did see some film types doing something from Stonebridge plaza not long ago. amy be connected..

Just walked through TC to hit up the food court and they're filming a scene from free runner in there now,  lower level near gamestop

FYI - The cast and crew of Free Runner have been hanging out at Bier Markt at night

looks like that will be an awesome movie and will definitely celebrate the urban landscape of the city. awesome! i will definitely watch this when it comes out.

Someone told me that Danny Greene's car exploded in the parking lot outside the medical building on the NE corner of Cedar/Brainard.  True?

Very true.  I believe Greene was at a dental appointment at the medical building there.

It's really too bad that they couldn't use the actual Cleveland locations for this movie.

I read that one of the mobsters was blown up in his car on Detroit near West 25th?  Any idea where exactly?  It said he was at Christy's lounge which was on Detroit (as opposed to the Christy's on the water)?

Mobsters also blew up his home on Waterloo- I'll go by and take a pic of the "KABOOM" mural on the side of the former Shoparooni building which faces where Greene's home used to be.

It's really too bad that they couldn't use the actual Cleveland locations for this movie.

Well, someone associated with the movie (I forget, a producer or director or something) did say that they chose to film in Detroit because Detroit looks more like 1970s Cleveland than contemporary Cleveland does.  I actually took that as a compliment!

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The first season of TV Land's critically-acclaimed "Hot in Cleveland" ended on a high note. The series finale, which stars Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and Betty White, averaged over 4 million viewers according to the Nielsen Company. The "Hot in Cleveland" finale delivered a Live +3 rating of 2.1 in Adults 25-54 and 2.8 in Women 25-54 which is more than a +20% increase over the previous week's episode.

Throughout the 10-episode run, "Hot in Cleveland" averaged a 1.5 among Adults 18-49, 2.0 among Adults 25-54 and 2.5 among Women 25-54 and delivered 4.2 million total viewers according to Nielsen's Most Current Ratings.  To date, the series has reached 33 million people.  Presently, it is the #1 cable sitcom of the year.  In its first season, "Hot in Cleveland" out-delivered shows like "Mad Men," "Real Housewives of New Jersey," "Top Chef," "Bethenny Getting Married," "Project Runway," "Army Wives," "Nip/Tuck," "Men of a Certain Age," "Ice Road Truckers" among many others in total viewers.  Produced by Hazy Mills Productions, the show will begin production of a second season in November 2010 with 20 new episodes scheduled to air beginning in January 2011.

Since its debut to record audiences on TV Land in the U.S. in June, "Hot in Cleveland" continues to be a hit abroad as well. Amazing considering that show is garbage.

I think it is pretty entertaining. Apparently so do many Americans, Canadians and Australians.

Correction.  It's the number one BASIC cable comedy. Thats really important and a huge omission.

Amazing considering that show is garbage.

I don't watch TV...hardly ever.....But what makes the show "garbage?" ..Other than the fact it is associated with the big entertainment conglomerates. (my personal peeve being a supporter of independent media)This is not a for or against... Just curious.

Having watched a few episodes, I can also agree that the show is garbage.  Absolute crap.  Some of the worst writing in the history of night-time American television.  The jokes, one-liners, and over-the-top acting are ridiculously awful and the laugh track button seems to be broken as it seems to go off at a far higher rate than the average sitcom.  Live studio audience my arse - those laughs ain't real!!  The "star" Valerie Bertinelli is in particular unfunny, untalented, and the show's director is doing a bad job at hiding the weight she's clearly gained back since those bikini shots last year.

True the program is a remarkable hit and my guess is that it is 110% due to Betty White and her popularity since the Proposal (really stemming from Lake Placid when she began this crass granny character that continued to Boston Legal and now this show).

Then again, to each his own.  My sister watches the show every week, mostly due to the Cleveland connection.  And the theme song, though brief, is kinda cute.

But the show.  Really.  Yikes.  Doesn't hold a candle to Drew Carey, which in itself was pretty hit or miss.

^ Ouch! TB holds nothing back! Straight to the point! :-o Well...that's good to bring out reviews like this one. It keeps writers to higher standards! And, I'm all for that! Betty White is funny, though...and at least Valerie B. is not some plastic Paris Hilton-like (now there is a good definition of "no-talent")  figure all made up...what you see is pretty much what you get. I think I liked her from the One Day At A Time era so I have a sentimental spot for her. At any rate, good or not so good...maybe the show will cast some positive light over Cleveland and get people to actually want to check out the place....and maybe the show will improve in the eyes of those who are not impressed. Again, I rarely watch TV, but from what I saw, I would have to say I have seen worse....but I am not going to grant 5 stars either

I have to admit that I liked Drew Carey better than I like Hot in Cleveland.  It's difficult to have chemistry between four heterosexual females.  The show is in some confused world between network and premium cable, where they say dirtier things than network TV allows, but they don't show said dirty things like Showtime or HBO would.  I keep watching because it does make me laugh, but moreso because I live in Cleveland.

Anyone watching cook like an Iron Chef?

I bought these to go into my vinagrette and Aioli / mayo, I'm going to attempt to make for the soft crab BLT.

We don't get the cooking channel or I'd be watching that show MTS!

This quite isn't Cleveland on TV, but it's pretty close:

Extreme makeover is coming to Cleveland for an episode. Today there is a rally for the show at the Wolstein center. It starts at 630 and ends around 830. I believe doors open around 5:30

I think Marous Brothers is doing the construction for them.

Dim and Den Sum is providing their food.

Maple Heights family gets new home from ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Andre and Jasmine Anderson and their sons Jaison and Jahzion got what could be the biggest and most rewarding surprise of their lives this morning when Ty Pennington and the crew of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" came knocking.

The family, in which both parents are seeing impaired and one son is hearing impaired, learned they were selected to receive a newly built home, all expenses paid.

http://www.cleveland.com/insideout/index.ssf/2010/09/maple_heights_family_gets_new.html

Jaison and Jahzion?  It's like they wanted to name their kid "Jason", but couldn't quite get the spelling right, so they tried twice.

No JaAndre?  I'm shocked.

^Haha.  But seriously, they are most likely just rastafarians.  "Jah zion" is a common lyric in reggae songs... some sort of religious connotation.  I think "Jah" is used as a substitute for "God"

Healdanayshon!

This show seems to be putting Cleveland more on a world map...well at least our name:

Lots of Cleveland references lately in pop culture. In the newish movie Red, Bruce Willis had a City of Cleveland recycling bin outside his house, and when a piece of his mail is shown, the address is Parma Heights.  In the excellent movie The Town, Ben Affleck suggests to a girl that if she joins witness protection, they will send her to someplace "safe like Cleveland." And in the boring remake of Haiwaii Five-O on tv, one episode had the bad guy originally based in Cleveland and they showed his Cleveland Police Dept rap sheet. Just some things I noticed.

HBO's new show "Boarwalk Empire" had a few Cleveland references last night when covering the topic of Warren Harding's rise to the Republican nomination.  They mention "those fast-money guys in Cleveland" who were behind Harding and how smart they were, politically.  I assumed they meant Rockefeller, etc.
