He wouldn't be allowed on this show.  Although the banter between him and one of the cast members could be epic!  Then again, it' could be an epic failure.

Yesterday there was a movie shooting at Shaker and Sulgrave in Beachwood, and they were looking for extras. Couldn't make it but still pretty cool--

Filming "fun sized" in Lakewood today.

My Mom just called me and said she saw the trucks, over by the library.

MTV show "True Life" will air tomorrow at 11 pm entitled "I'm a Big Girl."  It's about Holly Mangold, who is aiming to be in the 2012 Olympics.

She's originally from the Dayton area, but goes to Ursuline College on Cleveland's Eastside.

I remember when they were filming in Little Italy, so I'd expect some scenes in Cleveland.

Here's a video:

EDIT: the very last scene in the video is Coltman Rd right by my house.  Looks to be in front of Lou's Tavern (and she's holding the bartender at Euclid Tavern, who's name is Angelo).

^ BUMP, reminder of the MTV show tonight.

Also, do you guys remember this commercial?  I must not have been watching cable tv that year:

'Fun Size' filming continues in Cleveland Heights

Published: Sunday, July 03, 2011, 12:00 PM

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS -- Paramount Pictures will be filming more of its 2012 film “Fun Size” in Cleveland Heights next week, according to Assistant City Manager Susanna Niermann O’Neil.

She said the filming will take place for two days in Coventry Village. While the schedule remains unspecific for privacy purposes, the street will be closed to cars and pedestrians starting at 9 p.m. until early the next morning on July 5-6, she said.

The crew has been filming in many different cities across Ohio. It chose to film a sequence of scenes in Coventry Village because of how it is filled with businesses.

“The scene they are filming in Coventry Village is when the main female character goes shopping, and the way the shops are set up is what Paramount was looking for,” said Niermann O’Neil.

The panelist from Boston was agonizing to listen to. His slow pace, with some low-talking sprinkled in, made for some bad radio. He also had an agenda that didn't really address the issue and was not relevant to the goals of the tax credit.

There is some really fascinating (and sad) footage of 1960s Cleveland in this somewhat random string of Cleveland-oriented mini-documentaries and news reports:  http://dbs.galib.uga.edu/cgi-bin/parc.cgi?userid=galileo&query=id%3A1964_64082_pst_1&_cc=1

The first segment is the most interesting, IMHO (it's like the documentary version of Jules Dassin's "Up Tight"

), but the end has some good stuff too.

^I saw that this morning.  Fascinating stuff... although I am not sure this is the right thread.

I found this excerpt particularly relevant to discussions we have had recently on here:

The first and longest excerpt focuses on poor urban youth. Police talk about the problem of violence, particularly in hot weather. "We find that during a tour of duty," one police officer says, "we run across at least one shooting, several cuttings."

Community members worry that young men with no jobs will cause trouble. A group of boys loitering against a wall talk disjointedly about looking for something to do. (Segment begins at 1:03 of the video.)

Amazing footage. I could identify the locations pretty well. The view of the police cars speeding through the five-way intersection is East 55th-Woodland-Kinsman, but I'm surprised to see that only one of the corners still had a building on it in the late 1960s. Then the next scene appeared to be at the railroad underpass on Broadway, between Booth and Jones avenues, just northwest of Harvard.

Here's the heads-up on some news that will definitely affect anyone who comes downtown in August. If this affects you, just figure out which method works best for you on keeping informed.

The Avengers -- Film crews here cause many RTA route changes downtown in August

Hollywood comes to Cleveland this month. That means traffic on some downtown streets will be rerouted. Marvel Studios will film The Avengers in Cleveland from Aug. 5-early September. Exact dates will be determined by the weather.

The Avengers is about a team of superheroes whose mission is to protect the Earth. Film crews are expected to generate more than $30 million in revenue while they are here.

How to stay plugged in

To keep commuters informed of reroutes, RTA officials are utilizing many communications tools.

1. For daily updates and an interactive map, go to riderta.com/avengers. Sign up for Avenger-specific Alerts, and have film-related updates sent to your personal computer or mobile device via e-mail and/or text message.

2. “Like” RTA on Facebook.com/rideRTA.

3. Follow RTA on Twitter @GCRTA. RTA uses the hashtag #avengers for Avengers-related tweets.

4. Go to rideRTA.com/e-news, and sign up for the RTA e-newsletter, which comes out every two weeks with updates.

5. Read daily updates in The Plain Dealer and cleveland.com

6. Go to your usual bus station or shelter. Signs will direct you to the nearest stop for your route.

7. Call the RTAnswerline, 216-621-9500.

Mayor supports filming

“Movies like this are important for Cleveland’s image and our economy,” says Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson. “We appreciate RTA’s cooperation in accommodating the Marvel Studios crews and ask all Clevelanders to be patient and to show Marvel the warm hospitality that we are known for.”

To accommodate filming, some streets will be closed at various times. Crews may need more of the street than just the blocks used for filming.

* East Ninth Street, between Prospect and Walnut avenues.

* Walnut Ave., which runs between East Ninth and East 12th streets, just north of Chester Ave.

* Euclid Avenue, from Ontario Street to East 14th Street.

* In front of the old Cuyahoga County Courthouse, at Lakeside Avenue and Ontario Street.

* Public Square’s SW Quadrant, in front of Tower City. On filming days, the entire Public Square will be blocked off.

* The Detroit-Superior Bridge.

Some downtown parking lots will be used by film crews. Some on-street parking has been eliminated.

Many routes affected

“Traffic detours are a fact of life whenever Hollywood comes to town,” says RTA CEO and General Manager Joe Calabrese. “We urge our customers to follow the updates on our Web site, plan their trips ahead of time, allow extra time for travel, and be patient. We value your understanding.”

These bus routes are expected to be re-routed, on select days. The exact schedule will be announced. Stay tuned for updates.

* HealthLine, E-Line trolley, B-Line trolley.

* #1, #3, #8, #9, #11, #14, #15, #19, #20, #20A, #21, #22, #26, #35, #38, #39, #45, #45A, #47, #51, #55/55F, #76, #77, #79A/B, #81, #90F, #135, #239, #246, #251, #263, #451.

My girlfriend received a call today from Avengers to be an extra.  She's not entirely sure if she'll accept yet, but it looks like I may have some connection.  Plus, I'm friends with one of the cameramen.

Holy traffic nightmare, Batman.  It wouldn't be so bad if there weren't so many closures cause of the Innerbelt already.

Story on the film industry's impact on CLE hotels:

per the article, the Avengers movie alone is estimated to require 27,000 room nights. By contrast, Spider-Man 3 generated 4,820 room nights.

the end of the article says there about 4200 hotel rooms downtown. That's 1,553,000 room nights. So Avengers alone is taking up 1.8% of all rooms....more movies + convention center = new highrise (convention) hotel!

"CLEVELAND—Movies under way in Cleveland could mean millions of dollars and thousands of room nights for hotels in the struggling northeast Ohio city. The Ohio Department of Development suggests they could produce close to US$5.3 million in economic activity and more than 41,000 room nights, making movies one of the biggest demand generators in Cleveland, on par with the Cleveland Clinic and Progressive Insurance...."

Damn,...received a call yesterday for a fitting..in NYC, no luck...

Another article on the impact of filming:

"Movies presently being filmed in Cleveland are translating into millions of dollars and thousands of room nights for area hotels, according to the Ohio Department of Development. The films, most of which are taking advantage of the new Ohio Film Tax Credit, could generate close to $5.3 million in economic activity and more than 41,000 room nights, according to an article in HotelNewsNow.com."

A flood of great suggestions washed over The A.V. Club when we asked you, dear readers, to help us pick the 12th and final city for Pop Pilgrims. Before that flood, I don't think Cleveland was really even in our minds, despite the protestations of Chicago A.V. Club editor and Cleveland booster Marah Eakin. So next Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, be on the lookout for three locations in the city that Wikipedia tells me is known as "C-Town," "The Sixth City," "The Forest City," and "The Rock 'N' Roll Capital Of The World." (No, we will not be visiting the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.)

Normally, I would have said the Agora. :-(

Normally, I would have said the Agora. :-(

Speaking of the Agora, what was going on there this Wednesday?  There were a bunch of 20-somethings (like 100 or more) gathered around the fire escape on the side of the building and a few that had wandered out to the front of the building at around 3 PM.

This should be interesting.  AV Club checks out pop culture locations in different cities....

First up - Christmas Story house

http://www.avclub.com/articles/cleveland-a-christmas-story-house,57354/

Welcome to Collinwood - I looked EVERYWHERE online with no results. Anyone know where the scenes were filmed in Cleveland? There is a great scene near the beginning where two of the main characters are walking around and there is a building out front called LUCIL. The entire movie was filmed in Cleveland as far as I know.

From what I can gather, it was shot in Collinwood (not sure if just South Collinwood or both North and South Collinwood), Slavic Village and downtown. The only two specific locations I've seen referenced were Taft and 131st and Broadway and 55th.

This kind of applies to the 3C's more than just Cleveland, but I've seen these Cleveland-oriented Leinenkugel ads the past few months and figured they produced other spots for a bunch of cities nationwide, but it appears that they really only focused on Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Ohio.  Kind of cool that they could adapt them the way they did.  And I like their beer...

Is it a sad statement that a group of people in front of a large theater gets special attention? It should be routine, but the Agora isn't what it used to be, nor is that entire section of Euclid.

^I think it's notable because the Agora isn't operating anymore.
