A lot of the scenes for Welcome to Collinwood were filmed on pre-decent E. 4th Street.

Of course it is. My point is that it's a major theater venue on a major street in a major city. And a crowd catches attention (as it would with me too). I am commenting on the falling of the once-mighty.

All these changes do make me wonder what they'll do when they leave.  I heard somewhere they've also added some lights and plants to public square, but I havn't seen it yet.

Captain America arrived downtown today

I was out last night in the WHD and they were filming the movie "I, Alex Cross" on the patio at XO Steakhouse.  I believe Tyler Perry was in the scene they were filming.

Also, I don't go out much during the week but West 6th had a larger crowd than I thought there'd be for a Wed night.

Wow, filming all over downtown.  I didnt realize the "I, Alex Cross" one started.

It's been busy for the last two weeks on W6th.  I think the movie filming has really pumped some energy into the city and has given some people a reason to come downtown during the week.  Bar Louie has also been crazy busy ever since it opened.  That place really is going to be a good addition to the neighborhood.

There was a film on TCM last week called 'Three Guys named Mike".  Starred Jane Wyman, Howard Keel, Van Johnson...  Wyman is a newly minted stewardess for American Airlines and is first based in CLE.  There are some location shots of the airport in 1950 wkith Wyman and Keel (who plays an AA captain on Convair 240's.  Of course, being about AA, you don't see any other airline present.  Later, she is based out of Chicago.

Northeast Ohio gets two more movies and a video game, courtesy of tax credit program

Cleveland, Ohio -- Ohio's Motion Picture Tax Credit is doing boffo business at the box office.

Five new projects that are expected to bring more than $17 million to the state have been awarded tax credits totaling $3.37 million, the Ohio Department of Development announced Thursday.

The state gave credits to four feature films, two of which will be produced in Northeast Ohio, and one interactive video game.

Northeast Ohio, most recently home to film crews from "The Avengers" and "I, Alex Cross," will provide the setting for "Unamerican," which is due the largest tax break: $1.7 million. The movie is about a man's discovery of "the true meaning of life" upon losing his job due to corporate downsizing.

Apparently, Cleveland and other parts of northern Ohio will substitute for Ireland when Shaker Heights native Fred Willard stars in the romantic comedy, "The Yank." The story of a middle-aged Irishman's search for love in the old country received a $330,831 tax credit.

Five more movies coming to the state.... one of which (The Yank) will be in CLE and one of which (Confession starring Danny Glover) will shoot at a location yet to be determined.

"CLEVELAND - The spotlight may be on Hollywood, but the Ohio film industry continues to grow as Ohio’s Motion Picture Tax Credit secures more productions. According to the Ohio Film Office, five new projects will bring in anticipated revenue of more than $17.1 million for Ohio. “Confession” starring Danny Glover will receive a $1.03 million Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit to shoot in an Ohio location that is yet to be determined...."

I wonder if other parts of the state will start to oppose this tax credit as it seems like most of the films coming to Ohio are only coming to Greater Cleveland.

^What's good for CLE is good for Ohio!

Oh, like with the Historic tax credit?

There is also a question of whether this tax credit actually helps anything, even cleveland

Oh really? If you're going to say something so silly please tell us exaclty who is asking the question and exactly what is is, otherwise don't post anything so lame.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohio's Motion Picture Tax Credit is doing boffo business at the box office.

Five new projects that are expected to bring more than $17 million to the state have been awarded tax credits totaling about $3.4 million, the Ohio Department of Development announced Thursday.

The state gave credits to four feature films, two of which will be produced in Northeast Ohio, and one interactive video game.

Crains Cleveland asked this and the panel on their weekly podcast decided the economic effect was minimal.

also,

http://www.cbpp.org/files/11-17-10sfp.pdf

^How minimal?  Is it a net gain or does the economic impact not surpass the cost of the credit?

There are also intangible benefits like city/region recognition nationally and globally as well as simple things like boosting the morale of the city/region.

I was talking with some people from Michigan who were complaining about the loss of the film tax credits in their state.  They said that the Governor decided to eliminate the credit because the economic impact was "below expectations," but the impact was still a net gain for the state.  Let's not fall into that trap...

Well there was a story about this a couple of weeks ago somewhere (I'll re-post if I find).  There are many ways to measure the impact and depending on what study you look at, you may come away with a different answer.  There is no doubt in my mind that the positives far outweigh any negatives especially when you consider the intangibles as Hootenany mentioned (but the people that are looking at a very fine set of variables may not see it that way).

Besides, look at the love Cleveland got from the Avengers crew in the "I love Cleveland" thread.  This kind of stuff is hard to measure, yet could end up being priceless.

^ Indeed, some things cannot be measured immediately or easily  in dollars and cents. If this helps boost civic pride and morale around here... to maybe result in people staying or coming...it is priceless.  Such value should be considered, but doubtful you will get that in a publication dedicated to the bottom line of dollars and cents.

I never knew Cleveland was filming movies! Tres cool!

Not really a movie or TV...but radio media.  Was listening to WBEZ Chicago Public Radio (NPR) today at work, and one of the segments was made possible by donations from The Great Lakes Brewing Company of Cleveland.

That is cool that they put the "of Cleveland" where with that name, people may just think it is local

Yes, they did, and also included a blurb about their sustainable business practices....but I just caught it out of one ear while I was busy and didn't catch all of the wording.

Thanks. I will share that.

There was a radio program on NPR Chicago Public Radio WBEZ tonight about the entrepreneurial spirit flourishing in Cleveland.  They had the guy on that opened the Mountain Biking place, a group of parents that started a school in Ohio City, the Ohio Knitting Mills story, the rowing association....and a few others.  I only caught about the second half of it.

I was riding in a car and I want to say it was on somewhere between 7pm and 9pm CST....maybe the "ideas" or "sunday specials" program they have listed on the schedule on the website.  However, I can't find anything about it on the website.  I will check and see if they update the site tomorrow...I wish I had more details.  It was a great and positive piece and worth a listen.

The answer would be no.

But the link still works

Funny I was just listening to that NIN song the other day...Trent Reznor must be excited!

Movie looks cool.

Let's see if I can remember how to do this:

This should work.

I also wanted to say that I'm happy to finally register and be a part of the community.  I've been lurking for a while and always read up on all of the Cleveland development news.  I'll be returning to Cleveland in May and hopefully stay for good!

For youtube videos, all you need to do is copy and paste the web address and it automatically embeds...
