The Man of Steel is returning home - new Superman movie to be filmed in Cleveland.

Yes, in May. But I don't want to wait that long! madwife.gif

Well, 'Major League' ushered the best era of Indians' baseball I have ever seen.  Maybe this movie can somehow give some mojo to the Browns.

BTW.... is that Aaron Goldhammer at 0:11?

Yep that's definitely Rizzo then Aaron I heard during the trailer I saw.

Cool! But not until April?? Not cool. :(

Also, not a great time for movie releases.  Granted this is more likely done to take advantage of the pre-draft build up but most movies that are released in late March and April are ones the studios are not too sure about.

This is no longer true. A movie released in March or April is no indication of quality.  More and more, studios are releasing bigger pics in March and April because the summer months are becoming too crowded.  Last April the baseball movie 47, the one about Jackie Robinson, was released because it wouldn't have found an audience in the summer, and it was a decent hit.  It was true in the past that Feb and March were movie dead zones, but for the last several years, studios have been releasing more and "bigger" movies in March and April to capitalize on the breathing room.

42 was the Jackie Robinson movie.  And actually, that release window is probably right in this movie's wheelhouse.  It was likely relatively cheap to produce, at least by Hollywood standards.  And it clearly isn't designed to be a summer blockbuster style, or fall winter awards type movie.  I think it will do pretty well, between the overall NFL Draft hype and Kevin Costner being back in a sports movie (the only thing he does well, Dancing with Wolves excepted).

The more worrying, at least in my mind, situation is the Captain America release date;  April 4th.  This really should be a movie released in May, it is a busy month but even the end of April would seem to work better.  Unless the studios are really trying to push out the calender it seems very early for this type of movie.

^Oops, 42. Numbers don't autocorrect:). I wouldn't worry about Captain America. As you suggested, the studio is just getting an early jump on a very crowded late spring/early summer.  Cap Am will do well and is generating more good buzz for Cleveland as a filming location (I'm involved in this industry in LA, so have my ear to the ground, and Cleveland has a good rep)

Yeah they do.  That good rep, and some $$$, got Draft Day moved here.

Well, Cleveland sports have been involved, either directly or indirectly, in two movies about the esoteric back room dealings of front offices in professional sports. I'm looking foward to next year's exploration of the NBA's salary cap and luxury tax issues. "The Larry Bird Affair", starring Richard Kiel as Chris Grant

Looks like Berea, Shaker Heights, and Aurora also make prominent appearances in Draft Day.

Looks like a couple of Cleveland's favorite movie makers have a future job in store for them. I wonder if they will bring their magic back this way again

'Captain America 2' Directors Joe and Anthony Russo to Return For 'Captain America 3'

Marvel has been hesitant to sign directors who aren’t named Joss Whedon to long-term deals, mostly because they like to keep their sequels fluid and evolving. But, they must see something special in ‘Captain America 2‘ directors Joe and Anthony Russo because they’ve hired them to write and direct ‘Captain America 3‘ before Part 2 has even hit theaters.

Variety is reporting that Marvel was so impressed with ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’ that they moved quickly to close a deal to bring them back for a third installment. ‘Captain America 3′ has yet to receive an official greenlight from Marvel, but that’s a formality and all signs are pointing to Cap (and actor Chris Evans) playing a major part in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (especially with Robert Downey, Jr. taking a step back after ‘Avengers 2‘).

congrats to arthur chu from broadview hts who came on to jeopardy tonight kicked ass and took no prisoners - ha!

"Cleveland" was the setting for lasts weeks episode on Criminal Minds. I watched with strict scrutiny for any sign of errors. Two years ago Criminal Minds had a spinoff show. Their Cleveland episode featured a mountain range in the background of one neighborhood and a crime scene "20 miles north of the city." Get a map!!!

They had a nice overhead establishing aerial shot of the skyline taken from the south (I'm sure they actually film in Socal or Vancouver).

This time there were no obvious screw ups, except the analyst did say that the suspect worked at a factory in nearby "Strongville" ha ha.

There are factories in Strongsville. On the west side of the city near the CSX rail line, there are a number of light-industrial/assembly plants.

Quite a lot if Cleveland... Even the Art Museum atrium!

But not in Strongville.

I hope they use the city again for CA-3. Just not the west shoreway.

Maybe they can use Hopkins this time... since there will be plenty of space available soon

Props to anyone who notices the Jesse Owens statue!!!

Oh - that Shorway wreckage was terrifying ha ha!

^ i noticed that during the super bowl.

I wonder if the tree that Adolf Hitler gave to Jesse Owens as a gift made it in the movie. Isn't it there by the statue?

I like the use of the art museum!

Can they blow up concourse A as part of it?!?  The would be a double win, even if nothing replaces it.

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier': Russo brothers plan Cleveland premiere to join Paris, London, Beijing

By Clint O'Connor, The Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland will host a premiere of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on Tuesday, April 1.

“It has been a big priority of ours obviously to be able to have a premiere there and thank the people of Cleveland,” said co-director Joe Russo Thursday on the phone from Los Angeles. “We want to have a premiere that includes the local cast and crew and make some tickets available to the general public. It’s a way to say thanks and pay back the city for being such a great host.”

Cleveland is not normally a movie premiere city. But when Marvel and Disney roll the action thriller out across the country and the world, the list of premiere cities will be limited: London, Paris, Beijing, Los Angeles and Cleveland.

Although I want the film to flop, this is really good for the city and hopefully it will lead to move production in the city.

100% professional reasons.  Now go out and see Her, Winters Tale or the LEGO Movie!  If you want to see action wait for 300!

Winters Tale, hell no.  You and I both know that's some bullshit.  Will Smith as the Devil?  _ _ _ _ _ please.  Her and LEGO were both excellent.

Thank you for paying my bills, BUT, leave Will alone.  It's such a small part.

What's up with Colin Farrell riding on a Pegasus?

Took 9 kids to Lego over the weekend. You have their endorsement. Now get to work on the Flash movie, and make sure they film it here.

Mario Batali's endorsement was a nice adder as well.

These morons were on House Hunters,

I can't find any video and I only saw apart of it when I was in NoLa.  They were so ignorant about Cleveland and San Juan.

The husband, said (paraphrasing), "I would love to move to a place that is rich in history with lots of monuments"  I just looked at the screen.  They didn't even know PR is apart of the US and that the residents are citizens, yet he works for the damn Coast Guard.

Not a huge deal, but am I correct that the  Winter Soldier Cleveland premier will be held at Valley View and not at a Cleveland screen? Sounds great! After the film everyone can wander over to the Quaker Steak and Lube instead of all of the great restaurants downtown. #mindboggling

Probably because they want to show in 3D, and with stadium seating, etc. Does Tower City have 3D? I don't have a clue what it takes to get set up to show that way.

I'm more flabbergasted by the prices to get in. I realize GCFC is using this as a fundraiser, but...yowza.

Edit: v Shows what I know. Maybe Valley View has better slushies.

I think both Tower City and Capital have 3D.

Yeah, Tower City does, but Valley View has much bigger auditoriums.  I'd bet that and the stadium seating are the biggest reasons.

This is the perfect reason to use PHS or Public Hall/Music Hall.  There are options!

^Yes this is my point. How about the new ballroom at the CC. It just seems for all that Cle went thru with the shoot, it should benefit from the party.

Here's the Michael Symon video. Had some good looking shots of E 4th and the downtown skyline. http://abc.go.com/shows/the-chew/video/most-recent/_m_VDKA0_2j6dhffu

Nice piece.  I like Michael and think he carries the Cleveland banner well... btw, he's an ex-pat.  I understand he's a North Olmsted kid but has fled for greener pastures... the East Side and Shaker!

They live in Cleveland Heights.  My cousin saw them renovating in October/November.

His new house is right by my parents - I just drove by last week and saw worker trucks outside.  They must be doing a complete overhaul.
