Thx - last night I was flipping through upcoming schedule and I couldn’t find this. it doesn’t look like HGTV have any more scheduled airings of this yet, so I appreciate this link.

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

"The Greater Cleveland Film Commission (GCFC) and our President, Evan Miller, have mutually agreed to part ways," said board chairman Tim Birch in an emailed statement"

'have mutually agreed to part ways'.....sounds like there is some back story here. The story kindof ends abruptly--I was expecting more discussion on the parting of ways, but no...

Trailer released today. Theaters Feb. 26, Apple TV Mar. 12

That's awesome!  That's going to be an uber-Cleveland film!  There's so many locations I can spot right off the bat- the steel mills in the Flats, the little gym on Superior, the Union Trust lobby, Lakeview Cemetery...the lifeless and foreboding desert that is Avon.

Of course they did.

The classroom and stairwell scenes towards the beginning is the Rockefeller Physics Building at Case Western Reserve.

EDIT: and dare I say it is Room 301 for the classroom scene:

'Making It... In Ohio' is a new sitcom that will be filmed in Cleveland ...

This was right around the time when the pandemic hit. I wonder if they're filming yet.

3News Exclusive: Northeast Ohio tapped as filming location for new Netflix movie starring Adam Driver

Production will begin in June, and will be Northeast Ohio's first major film project since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

HIRAM, Ohio — Get ready to spot Hollywood stars once again in Northeast Ohio.

3News has exclusively learned that the greater Cleveland area will be the site of an upcoming Netflix film starring Adam Driver ("Star Wars: The Force Awakens") and Greta Gerwig ("Lady Bird") and directed by Noah Baumbach ("Marriage Story," which also starred Driver). The project is an adaptation of the novel, "White Noise" by Don DeLillo, according to IndieWire.

ugh i hit the 'ol crains paywall, could you summarize?

Marquette Williams is a Cleveland native who has been making films in California for many years now. He has the land and most of the capital stack to open a 150,000 sq. ft. film studio he plans on building which would employ about 1,000 people over the next five years. Cleveland doesn't really have a full service film studio, and so the nearby facilities would make Cleveland an appealing shoot location for a wider range of projects. The article also says that on a national level, the film industry is growing much faster than there are facilities or workforce to accommodate.

What's the location?  Somewhere in Cleveland, or out in the suburbs?

Glenville, at the end of E79th between St Clair and the railroad tracks. This could be absolutely transformational for that area. It would also be the first facility of its kind in the state, which the article notes as being strange considering all the years Ohio has had the film tax credit. We are the only state with such a credit that doesn't have permanent sound stages.

These guys have been poking around the Cleveland area for a while in an attempt to put this together. They've been meeting with all the players to get their financing together.  I hope this works out for them and for Cleveland.

Bill Garvey Is Ready To Lead Cleveland's Next Film Renaissance

After working as a location scout for more than a decade, the New York City transplant took over as the new Greater Cleveland FIlm Commission president in September.

In 2008, Bill Garvey’s life was upended. Like many people involved in the film industry at the time, Garvey lived in New York City, where he had plans to move in with his then-fiancee (now wife). On the cusp of their move, things changed however, as his fiancee’s mother’s health took a decline. Instead of welcoming her to New York City, Garvey packed his bags and headed to Cleveland. “Sometimes you just have to roll with what life throws at you,” Garvey says.

Now, 13 years and more than a dozen movies later, Garvey’s ready to usher in Cleveland’s next generation of film as the new president of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. With over a decade of experience, Garvey has worked as a location manager in the film industry, working on films such as The Fate Of The Furious and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Here, Garvey shares his thoughts on the future of Cleveland’s film scene and what his plans are to succeed.

I love it, surprised I've heard nothing of this til now as it seems to have some real weight behind it already.

holy mackeral! so this is the visual of this guy marquette william's dream? can it be?!! that would be beyond the beyond. seems quite a reach, but i wish him and his backers the best to make it so. the world is very content hungry, so a new state of the art studio city is not a far fetched idea at all.

The early conceptual renderings of this project look way bigger than I had imagined.

Sound stages are generally very large.  Think of them as very large storage containers.  You need spaces to have multi cameras/stages and in some cases audiences.  Construction needs to take place in X space so there has to be space for that to happen along with all the trades. Plus each building has utilities leading into it

A development like this will most likely have it's own security and fire departments along with Tech and energy infrastructure.  The downside, is these projects can often be a "walled garden".  Once on site, you may not need to leave.

Any progress on Cinema City?  For the best places to live and work as a moviemaker, outside of NY and LA, Albuquerque got the #1 spot, followed by Toronto, then Atlanta. CLE is #12.

Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker in 2022

January 25, 2022:

"12. Cleveland

Cleveland continues to move up in our ranking because of increasing production activity in the area, thanks to the state’s $40 million commitment to a 30% rebate based on Ohio expenditures for projects that have a minimum $300,000 spend.

Oscar-nominated director Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story) filmed his latest feature White Noise locally in 2021, utilizing the surrounding suburbs as well as the downtown area to bring Don DeLillo’s 1985 novel to life. Nick Jonas was also in town for another Jersey Boys adaptation, and the World War II submarine thriller Operation Seawolf, starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Grillo, also shot in town. According to the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, approximately $140 million was spent on film productions in the area last year, and an additional $25 million was spent on television productions. The industry will further flourish upon the completion of Cinema City, the vision of local filmmaker Marquette Williams, who is in the process of developing a 150,000-square-foot studio, with four sound stages, that will also double as a fertile training ground for below-the- line talent."

Crain's had a story on this I just saw---https://www.crainscleveland.com/scott-suttell-blog/theres-increasing-amount-filmmaking-action-cleveland--but they don't mention the status of Cinema City at all other than to say that they reported on it back in May. Kindof lame for Crain's---its a relevant piece of information if they are going to bother talking about film rankings considering that CLE got to be #11 in large part because of Cinema City.
