Posted June 16, 20231 yr Probably should have led with Yorkshire before posting Italy pics but oh well. I have UK citizenship via my mother and most of my family still lives in Halifax in West Yorkshire. So even in England I’m from the rust belt. Halifax, mighty cultural and political center of the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale (aka Happy Valley for those with an Acorn subscription). A lot of golden hour pictures here, which in England in November was 2:30pm lol. Hebden Bridge, also in Calderdale Leeds, economic powerhouse of West Yorkshire York City:
June 16, 20231 yr I’m originally from the Red Rose side of the Pennines (Manchester), but have to admit that Yorkshire has a lot of great scenery and towns. Leeds has cleaned up tremendously in the last 20 years, it used to be a right hole. Hebden Bridge is charming and has long been fashionable, although back when I was a kid it was the back of beyond, see An American Werewolf in London for the kind of place it was then. Most pleasing of all is seeing you showcase Halifax. I had friends and family live there and for decades I’ve always thought it’s one of the most underrated towns in the north. Tremendous pub scene and lots of handsome architecture and scenery. These last few years it seems like it’s finally getting some recognition. My hovercraft is full of eels

Like I said my family lives in Halifax so I suppose I rep the white rose. Although I don’t know if Irish Catholics were particularly welcome on either team. Halifax has definitely come a long way. The renovation of the Piece Hall has been especially beneficial and it’s a great space especially during the holidays. Halifax is also well positioned between Manchester and Leeds. It’s a very easy direct train to either city.
June 17, 20231 yr ^ My grandparents lived in West Vale, then Elland, both close by Halifax. One of my best friends then ended up living and working there in the town. Have fond memories of some epic pub-crawls. I remember the The Three Pigeons was a great pub and I see it’s still going. There was another, close by and near The Shay football/ rugby stadium that was hidden in a little backstreet and built into the row of old terrace houses. I can’t find it on GoogleMaps though, so maybe it’s long-gone. It would’ve been the early 90s the last time I was in there. My hovercraft is full of eels

Halifax and Hebden Bridge are sort of in the foothills of the Yorkshire Dales near Brontë Country. So heavy Wuthering Heights vibes and pretty dramatic scenery.
