Flexjet, an international avaition fractional-ownership and business charter company, part of Kenn Ricci's aviation conglomerate, is building a new/expanded operations center at the county airport. 200 new jobs are predicted.  The article doesn't say so, but I believe the jobs will be coming mostly from the Dallas area, where Flexjet had its ops center when Bombardier owned it.  Ricci's companies are all privately-owned so they aren't required to say much, and they don't; but this is pretty big news - bigger than cleveland.com is making it. I believe Flexjet is ranked number two in the industry to Netjets, a Buffet company in Columbus.

And now there is a rendering in this Cleveland.com story !

Pretty snazzy Opcon center.  It could function just as well underground in a bunker; but why not have a little fun?  ?

Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

It's strange, but I was at the Jet Center next door last week and there were no cars in the Flexjet parking lot in the middle of the day.  Is the location currently closed pending construction of the new facility?

Construction of new terminal at one of region's largest airports underway

One of the region's largest airports is in the midst of building a new terminal. The nearly $2 million project, according to officials, is an "entryway to many benefits."

Construction of a new terminal at Darke County Airport in Versailles is underway, Scott Naas, the airport manager, told the Dayton Business Journal in an email. The terminal will sit at just over 3,500 square feet, according to Naas, and cost $1.9 million.

Though Naas didn't provide specifics, he said the new terminal would bring "many new accommodations."

Another nice development from Flexjet, they have announced their intention to do all maintenance in-house.  Sometimes the relationships among Kenn Ricci's aviation interests are complicated, but basically I believe Flexjet now owns Constant Aviation and will cycle all its planes (currently creeping up on 300) through Constant facilitiies at Cuyahoga County Airport, CLE, and Orlando.  That means more hiring.  🙂

One of Dayton's largest airports wants to modernize terminal

One of the Dayton region's largest airports wants to modernize its "outdated" terminal — and is looking to a local funding committee to cover most of the cost.

Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport, owned and operated by the city of Dayton, has plans to "breathe new life" into its terminal by bringing it up to date with current Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and energy standards. The proposal includes:

  • upgrades to the terminal building envelope
  • new entrance and drop-off area
  • new terminal building vestibule
  • new lobby finishes
  • LED lighting installation

The new Newark-Heath Airport Terminal is set to open.  This was built for the anticipated growth coming from the Intel development.  The site currently has 79 planes in hangars with an additional 67 on a waiting list.  That essentially doubles what is on site...that would be a significant development!!
