April 16, 200619 yr If you spit on the sidewalk you can seriously be fined? I don't see how it's much of a health issue, although it's nasty.
April 16, 200619 yr You've got a great: "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 16, 200619 yr Wonderful thread as always! As a pig I must express appreciation for the Flying Pig Marathon. Reminds me of a one time when I was at a Reds game around that time of that marathon and saw a giant pig (some kind of float I guess) drive by out on Mehring Way... an odd sight. Must have been that last year at Riverfront Stadium, when the outfield section was torn down.
April 16, 200619 yr If you spit on the sidewalk you can seriously be fined? I don't see how it's much of a health issue, although it's nasty. Most cities and towns have or had those ordinances. They date to a time when public uncouth behavior was perhaps even more common than it is now. The ordinances were directed at people who used chewing tobacco and snuff. While ordinary spitting is nasty, the mess left by a spitter who chews tobacco is very noticeably disgusting and unsanitary. Some people who came to town from surrounding farms and woods had never been taught how to act in public (just like an increasing number of kids and some adults now ), hence the ordinances. When I was a teenager. the county courthouse still had brass spittoons in the corridors, beneath old, faded signs admonishing visitors of severe penalties for spitting on floors and in stairwells.
April 17, 200619 yr ^eeeeeuuuuuuuu :-D maybe it's where they make that "vault" crap being sold on the adjacent billboard! It kinda looks like instant-ivy! BTW: Where is "East Chester", or did "Chester" just grow so much in 1824 that it created it's own little 'burb?
April 17, 200619 yr I grew up near Cresentville - my aunt taught at the Cresentville School which is right next to I-75, probably 1945-50 or so. West Chester was the weeds when I was a little 'un. (100 years ago)
