Invision Community is updating their software to version 5.0 in the coming months.  We will be upgrading once it is released.  The cost once we upgrade will be $199 a year or $19 a month, for self-hosted. See the link below for a small sneak peak.

Looking like some nice changes coming down the pipe!

seems mostly like they just moved things around and modernized features, but it looks fine.

 

i like the original thread post sticky at the top of thread pages, that's a good idea to help keep chat on track.

We’re getting closer to the V5 release! One change that will be coming is user name logins will not be available, email addresses will be the only option moving forward. Please ensure your email address on file is your current email address, as this is what you will use once we move to V5. Display names will still be used primarily on the forum, just not for logging in.

Sadly, there isn’t. It’s a “security” feature and IPS insists on keeping it.

@richNcincy Thanks for the forum work you do. Is there anyway to add the light blue or light gray background back onto the forum? Looking at all that white is pretty harsh on the eyes. Thanks.

You could choose to use the dark setting all the time, or I've added another theme and make it have less white.

You can also change the default layout depending on your preference: Click your profile name in the upper right hand corner > Account Settings > Content Preferences > Change layout views (on) > Table | Grid | Fluid | Content Focused.

I am having so much trouble with the new update. Background is black. Print/layout is tiny. All the topics start with the oldest even when l sort by newest. Please help. Thanks.

I've fixed your topic sorting issue. The display issue has to be an issue with your browser. I'm able to see what your theme looks like and when I do that on my system/browser, it works as intended. You can try to go into your settings and delete your cookies and cached files for the site.

Stupid me didn't know theme meant light or dark. I'm still working on getting the most recent vs. oldest. Thanks. Hate updates.

Even when l tap most recent it doesn't set. I've played with everything regarding newest vs. oldest submission. Can you explain how to do it?

Thanks. Are these the themes to which you’re referring? When I click on the lightbulb on the left and the half light/half dark icon on the right, I don’t see a difference between the two. I’m using my iPhone.

I think we should probably only enable the helpful button in this section or other sections where users ask questions or seek input.

Would like to thank the admin for merging my old and new accounts on here! Was a pleasant surprise. Gotta admit I'd stopped using my real email account on non professional/personal stuff like forums, not because I want to post slanderous comments or troll people behind a fake ID and get away with it, but I've had my stuff leaked in data breaches before and also ended up with my personal email where I want important things getting bombarded with spam and phishing crap so would rather just keep things separate, but have since learned my lesson not to use throw away stuff and have an e-mail address solely for the other things now!

You’re very welcome! I understand though, feel free to use throw away emails, just one you can access if needed. We will never sell or share your email to anyone because we’re not here to make money, and hopefully miss the data breach trains too.

After a few days with the new forum design, I have to say I am not enjoying it at all. I find it much more difficult to read because of all of the white, and the site seems more busy and less streamlined, especially in the main topics page. If I remember correctly, the previous design had a light gray or light blue background that really made the site easier and more pleasant to read. And I’m not just talking about the color in between posts, but the background of the posts themselves.

Also, I don’t know if this is my imagination or not, but the text boxes themselves seem bigger, and the screen seems more crowded. The various topics pages seem less compact - less information is fitting onto my phone screen, therefore requiring more scrolling. I wish I had some screenshots of the previous design so I could compare them directly.

I can try to design additional themes to help in this regard. Alternatively, you can try the “dark” setting, which looks quite nice.

I agree with this and will see what I can do to maybe clean it up a bit.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried the dark setting, which is a bit too dark for me. Whatever the settings were for the previous iteration were quite comfortable for the eyes. Again, I can’t remember if it was a light gray or a light blue, but it worked.

Also, I’m glad that you agree that the pages seem crowded visually. I really wasn’t sure if it was just my imagination.

I appreciate your efforts, and I’m happy to give feedback in the hope that is constructive.

I've added a Default Alternative II theme. Let me know if it's a step in the right direction.

I do like the shortcuts at the bottom of the page on mobile for unread topics and notifications. I think that's a big improvement

Thanks. I can’t tell much of a difference between Alt 1 and Alt 2. What I’m mainly talking about is the posts themselves - not the space between the posts. Where I am writing text right now is very white. Is there a way to make that background a very light gray or light blue with the text weitten on that background? I don’t remember the previous iteration being so bright. I’ve also posted a screenshot of what I see on my iPhone so you see what I see.

Check out Alternative II again. The only thing I don't care for with it is the quote box color, but I can't seem to find a way to change that.

Thanks. Definitely easier on the eyes, and almost there! Lol. My only suggestion is if there is an option to make the gray about one-half lighter so that the background is just a light gray. That will be easier on the eyes than the white, without some of the issues that the darker gray presents.

Almost there, the quote boxes are more defined now. I would say go two shades lighter in the main text area to make them a bit more defined.

I think that's a good call and have made the changes. I've also edited the primary darker header to match the main color scheme.

How do I make it go back to Light mode? The dark mode is so difficult to read.

The first option will always display the Light theme.

The second option will always display the Dark theme.

The third option will always display whatever option your device is set to.

Is there a way to make the avatars next to threads show the most recent poster as opposed to the first poster? Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm pretty sure that's how it used to work. With how long some of our threads go I think the most recent poster is more useful information to see at a glance than whoever started the thread

In addition, I also think it's a bit difficult to spot unread content in dark mode. The difference between the degree of distinction in light mode vs dark mode is significant. I'm not sure what levers can be pulled to affect that, I'm just pointing it out.

I think this is the way it has always been and is not something I can change.

I somewhat agree, but the blue dot and bolded text are probably the most that can be done aside from font size change and/or color changes.
