Alongside necessary improvements, the museum will expand its educational programming. Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is gearing up to begin fundraising for a first-floor transformation. The museum also will expand the Ohio Institute of Informal Science Education (OIISE) and its institute to include new offerings in biology and natural sciences. The major $10.6 million project will center around renovations to the museum’s first floor, update existing software in the Caryl D. Philips Space Theater and install a universal changing room in the astronomy wing. December 24, 2024Dec 24 Author $10M-plus Boonshoft Museum renovation aims to 'spark inspiration' in future STEM leaders A Dayton-based educational attraction operated by the Dayton Society of Natural History that brings in thousands of visitors each year is currently undertaking a $10.5 million project. The goal of the venture is to revamp a segment of its facility to encourage local children to pursue careers in the STEM and defense industries. The Dayton Society of Natural History is requesting funds to aid in the transformation of a portion of the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery at 2600 Deweese Pkwy. The funds will advance efforts towards the renovation of the first floor of the museum with a significant transformation of the exhibits to increase visitor accessibility and safety and enhance educational content, including a strong workforce focus and to better tell the story of Dayton's water resources and the value they bring to the community.
