I remember when the Rini Rego by my house left. After a few vacant months a Save-a-Lot moved in (Cleveland on Puritas road). It is a bad sign for your neighborhood when a serviceable grocery store leaves to be replaced by a place where you may or may not get maggots in your food and you have to pay for bags to carry groceries.

The worst part about it is that a church across the street built some nursing home apartments so the residents could cross the street to grocery shop. The apartments opened at the exact same time rini rego left. Needless to say the Church was quite angry.

How exciting!!! (sarcasm)

:x

Hey that's the neighborhood I grew up in and that my dad still lives in.

I have to admit, I was a little bit surprised that Dillman's was doing this.  My parents used to shop at this store every week.  My brother used to work there in high school.  Great little hometown grocery.  Except for one thing...and this is why my parents quit shopping there...they were always out of everything they wanted.

My parents knew/know Steve and Brenda Dillman, and he had told my dad several months before the announcement that he was contemplating changing the store.  They had already done their store on the south end of town.  The only family brand store will be on Central (at one time, they owned a store in West Carrolton and Florida).

It will still be somewhat full-service.   They will have a bakery and deli.

Unforunately, this type of deep-discount, generic label store format is where the money is made these days.  That and high-end stores.  The middle market has been captured by big business.

Yeah, I know, what are you going to do? I'm impressed they lasted as long as they did, but the banner couldn't be any more ironic or hilarious!

i wonder if the sign itself is sarcastic lol.  but i think its extremely exciting.  i mean you know what youre gettin when you go there; its all in the name.
