AP Source: Ohio St-Michigan hockey in Cleveland

By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer – 13 mins ago

CLEVELAND – Ohio State and Michigan are finalizing plans to play each other in hockey at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians.

A person with knowledge of the negotiations tells The Associated Press that the schools will meet in January at the 43,000-seat ballpark. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because details on the first major outdoor hockey game in Ohio were still being completed.

This could be neat event for Cleveland and OSU/UM.  Outdoor hockey games have had alot of success in the NHL with their yearly Winter Classic on New Year's Day.  And although more college teams are doing these outdoor games, they're still rare enough that each one still feels like a special event.  Hope it happens.

I'm really excited for this!  If I can get tickets, I'll definitely be down there cheering on the Buckeyes!

Outdoor hockey is a huge draw. Looking forward to this!!

I soooooo want to do this!  I'll be wearing my Maize and Blue for sure!

I'm not a hockey fan, but I say stone Emmie for the above comment!  Maise and Blue my culo!

am i the only one who thinks 30.00 for Snow Days is more than a little bit too expensive?

am i the only one who thinks 30.00 for Snow Days is more than a little bit too expensive?

Hmm, not really.  First it is $25 if you buy online, or $28 walk up.  Second, making snow is extremely expensive.  That is what most of the lift ticket to ski resorts cover.

BTW, Snowtubing at Boston Mills is $25 for 3 hours.  Snow Days is unlimited snowtubing, and if you just want tubing it is $20.  Much better deal.

It is a good thing that they included the OSU v UM hockey game and are staying open until then.  It will give them a chance to recoup on what has been a fairly warm start to the winter season.  With Temps not expected to drop into the 20's until next week, really the first chance to make snow, there is about 20% of their season with out the tubing really up to snuff.

Heres to a nice cold winter  :drunk:

whoever is managing and promoting the prog -- give them a raise!

OSU men's soccer downs Stanford and survives to the NCAA quarterfinals (Elite Eight).

No. 1 Ohio State men's soccer team on to the Final Four

Ohio State men's soccer team, the No. 1 team in the nation and the top seed in the NCAA Tournament, is headed to the Final Four and a shot at the College Cup. The Buckeyes made sure of this with a dominant 3-0 victory over No. 9 seed Wake Forest at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Saturday evening.

Midfielder Michael Adedokun had two goals, including a penalty kick near the end of the first half. Forward David Ajagbe had a goal, midfielder Luciano Pechota had two assists and goalkeeper Max Trejo came away with a clean sheet.

From the outset, the Buckeyes looked like the No. 1 team in the country, which they've been since midseason. The Demon Deacons, who knocked off the defending national champions with a 2-1 overtime victory over Clemson in the previous round, were also brimming with confidence. This was a matchup between the champions of the Big Ten and the ACC.

The Buckeyes (16-1-4) move on to the Final Four, which will be in Cary, North Carolina. The semifinals are Friday night, the College Cup final on the following Monday. Ohio State will play Marshall in one semifinal. Denver and Vermont are in the other semifinal.

Had some friends over for the OSU-Marshall men's soccer Final Four game tonight.  Major mistake by the goalkeeper and back line defender in the seventh minute gives up an empty net goal after a collision outside the box (not sure what our GK was doing that far forward other than that he got caught way off his line by a rapid counterattack all the way from Marshall's goal on a line drive).  That proved to be the difference, and OSU ends up the only team in the Final Four not to score a goal as Vermont and Denver tied 1-1 in the other semifinal and Vermont won the PK shootout and will play Marshall on Monday for the title.

That said, for the following 83 minutes after giving up that seventh-minute meltdown, OSU honestly looked like the better team; we could just never put it in the back of the net.  It wasn't just Marshall playing defensively after scoring the early goal, either, because we were getting good looks at the goal, and playing defensive stalling ball to keep a lead for the win is to keep possession, and Marshall was not doing that.  We dominated time of possession, grabbed turnover after turnover, committed very few turnovers of our own in the back 2/3 of the field, attacked from left, right, and center, got something like 8 corner kicks to Marshall's 2 for the game, got free kicks within scoring range (right outside the box), etc.  My son turned to me after the game and said he was really surprised that we never got one in, and I had to agree with him.  So hats off to the Thundering Herd for withstanding an absolutely withering barrage from my top-ranked Buckeyes tonight.

CNBC ranks the 75 most valuable college athletic programs

Ohio State University ranked as most valuable in the nation:

"Ohio State University is the most valuable athletic program, worth an estimated $1.32 billion. The Buckeyes had $280 million in revenue in 2023, the most of any school. Other factors that helped propel the Buckeyes to the top of the rankings are an alumni base of over 600,000, a fan base of more than 11 million, boosters that donated nearly $60 million last year, and a football team that routinely has attendance of over 100,000 at its games."

Ohio State Pistol Team brings another National Championship home to Columbus

The Ohio State Pistol Team has won a fifth consecutive National Championship.

The title marks the sixth for Ohio State since 2018, which was the second season under current head coach Emil Milev. Two years before arriving in Columbus, Milev became just the second U.S. Olympic shooter at the time to qualify for six different Olympic events.

The Buckeyes have not only won several of these team titles outright, but continue to do so in dominant fashion. Ohio State finished with an aggregate score of 4476 this year, which was over 125 points higher than second-place Navy. Last year, OSU beat the Midshipmen by a whopping 296 points to win the championship, while the margin between Navy and fifth-place Citadel ended at merely 233 points.

Ohio State women's hockey readies for 5th straight Frozen Four, will face Cornell today

Ohio State's fifth-year players have advanced to the Frozen Four every season, winning the national championship in 2022 and 2024.

The Buckeyes will face Cornell in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. Friday. Ohio State beat the Big Red 7-3 in October. It was a one-goal game until Jocelyn Amos’ short-hander with 39.2 seconds left in the second.

Cornell is on a 16-game unbeaten streak (14 wins, two ties) dating back to early January, and the Big Red won the Ivy League title as well as both the regular-season and conference-tournament ECAC titles.

Ohio State enters with the No. 2 offense in the country, averaging 3.89 goals per game. Cornell has the No. 2 defense in the country, allowing just 1.38 goals per game.

Two third-period goals by Joy Dunne propelled Ohio State women’s hockey to a Frozen Four semifinal win over Cornell.

A sophomore searching for her second ring, Dunne scored two goals in five third-period minutes on Friday to send the Buckeyes to their fourth consecutive national title game.

Ohio State defeated Cornell 4-2 in the Frozen Four semifinals after Dunne's two scores broke a 2-2 tie in the final frame. The Buckeyes will play for their first-ever repeat national championship and third national title in four years on Sunday.

Ohio State Women's Hockey gives up tying goal with just 18 seconds to go in regulation, loses in Overtime

"Ohio State women's hockey lost to Wisconsin in heartbreaking fashion in the national championship game.

The Buckeyes, who led the heavily favored Badgers for most of regulation, fell to the Badgers 4-3 in overtime, falling short of claiming the program's second straight NCAA championship and third national title in four years.

Ohio State led 3-2 late in the third period, but Wisconsin capitalized on a penalty shot with 18 seconds left after referees determined by video review that an Ohio State defenseman covered the puck with her hand inside the crease. The Badgers used their new lease on life to win the game three minutes into the overtime period."

Ohio State brings NIL management under one umbrella after House v. NCAA settlement

Ohio State is streamlining NIL opportunities for its student-athletes with the formation of a new in-house entity.

The initiative, Buckeye Sports Group, is a joint effort between Ohio State University's athletics department and sports marketing group Learfield's Ohio State Sports Properties that the school called "groundbreaking" in a press release.

"Ohio State has always been a leader in college athletics, and this initiative is another step forward to build upon our strong NIL foundation," Carey Hoyt, Ohio State's deputy director of athletics, said in a statement. "By combining the power of our athletic brand with Learfield's expansive network, we are creating an innovative, full-service approach to NIL that directly benefits our student-athletes."

Todd Knisley, general manager of Learfield's Ohio State Sports Properties, said Buckeye Sports Group will "build on (its) past successes and create even more meaningful NIL opportunities for Ohio State student-athletes."
