I would like to see some sort of direction for the neighborhood. Whether it be residential or related to the universities or hospitals or even industrial - pick a vision and build with that in mind.

Cleveland Public Power has an updated LED Project Map as of 10/18/2020!

85.30% Complete - 51,848 of 60,779.

What's weird is they completed my street but left one streetlight the same. It's the only one like that and it bugs me.

I am afraid there is going to be a lot of that, especially downtown. They did part of Euclid Avenue but there's still crooked lights (WITH NEW HEADS), and the random ones that aren't done... per usual my OCD is going to go through the roof with this project. Nobody seems to have attention to detail.

Does anybody know why Detroit Ave. is virtually untouched in terms of new lighting? Is it in the plans for new LEDs?

Compared to the rest of Ohio City, Detroit still looks extremely dim and scary at night with the old brownish-orange lights.

There seems to be random blocks where nothing has been changed. Even when everything else in the neighborhood is done. My guess (hope) is that'll get cleaned up in that last 15%.

My guess is there are potential streetscape plans afoot.

Lake Ave was also not done, and it is supposed to be completely rehabbed in 2021 including new street lights.   So makes sense...

At the risk of seeming naive, you would think the city would have a schedule, accessible to taxpayers and the public in general,  for these kinds of important projects and maintenance.

Im not aware of anything on Detroit but it wouldn't surprise me.

I am aware that there is a Lake Ave plan being activated supposedly in 2021:

That's a really cool idea, but I'd hate to see the drunks try to navigate that when the bars reopen!

Anyway, this is an idea that could fairly easily be replicated around Downtown- a small intervention that could make huge improvements to our sense of place.

Everytime I open this thread, I get excited that I'm going to open it to news that Hingetown has FINALLY been declared pedestrian only

We're pretty close over here. They did about half of the crosswalks, lane paintings, etc. last week. Not sure what the hold up is on finishing the job.

That said, most of the sidewalks are finished up but still some work to be completed to make it all cohesive...

Not sure if it's been talked about before, but the Cudell Station intersection always bothers me from a pedestrian perspective. I noticed this when I saw jaywalking in various parts, and then realized that (as far as I can tell) there is only one pedestrian crossing across Detroit (at West Blvd). The entire section seems to be inconvenient to pedestrians, and it seems like there is more land devoted to cars than is necessary for this juncture (both in terms of the parking lot and the various odd junctures). Specifically I am talking about the stretch from Berea to West (plus part or all of the parking lot) would make a good target for a redesign for better pedestrian infrastructure and usable greenspace. Maybe improvements could flow into the Rec Center green area. (The eastern part is the bus loop.)

Mini update on the Cleveland Public Power LED Streetlight project:

Updated as of today, 11/10/2020

86.82% Complete - 52,774 of 60,779.

Up marginally since the last update I posted dating from 10/18, which saw 85.30% completion - 51,848 of 60,779.

As for the Euclid ave street art, I can't help shake the feeling Wile E. Coyote set it up! What a fun illusion.

This is the kind of low-cost, high-impact fixture that is really important in my opinion. I'm so grateful for the art installations that have been popping up over the last several years which really add character.

If Portland's motto is "Keep Portland weird," maybe we can try "MAKE Cleveland weird."

Perhaps I'm missing the obvious, but can someone please enlighten me as to how this works?  From the picture I can't tell how this is installed.  Thanks.

It is a painting that creates a faux hole in the sidewalk. It’s an optical illusion.

Thanks.  I couldn't tell if it was a painting or a printed graphic that was placed on the ground.

Great to see artwork increasingly becoming a part of the Cleveland atmospherics.  The city’s industrial to 21st century technology transition is also a cultural  shift that is allowing  us  to reimagine our city’s image and attitude.  Great to see the creative artwork literally at street level.

It is a printed graphic...I checked it out yesterday....and it is really cool!!!  More of this please!!

I agree, this is a cheap way to make an impact!  I think some murals painted in some of the ally-ways and on the backs of exposed builds would be cool too.

As for the Portland thing, after seeing in the news whats going on in there, i'll take a hard pass!!    Let's just stick with Cleveland Rocks!

Go to the Ohio City Facebook group and watch people complain about the street being "too well lit" after complaining for years that it was too dark. Peak entertainment

Over the past few days they have continued installation of the new LED lights on Euclid Avenue. The new sidewalk lights really make an incredible difference... the old lights were so dim and barely provided any illumination. Walk down Euclid Avenue now and it is BRIGHT. Lets hope they can maintain these a little better...

I cannot STAND that page. There truly is nothing worth seeing on that website lol.

It's my wife's favorite form of entertainment. There was once a post about an orange parking cone on Jay Ave that was met with 175 comments. Lmao.

Off topic for a second--has anyone ever done one of these walking tours?

That is a picture of a piece of art that was supposed to be part of a more numerous landscape of art/sculptures when Gateway was built. There were plans for several more but the funding never materialized so we ended up with just a few pieces of which that is one.

Really liking the night time lighting of Prospect between E.9th and Ontario. Very bright and makes a huge difference.

Great news! That stretch of lower Prospect was always dark, foreboding and full of questionable characters at night.

Hey!  Lower Prospect used to be my stomping grounds!

Yes! I did quite a few walking tours several years ago - downtown, the Flats, Tremont and Ohio City. They were very interesting.

BTW, their LED streetlights act more like strobe lights.

Several sections. The area near the post office on Pittsburgh Avenue is pretty bad as is Berea Road near West 117th.

Perhaps not earth-shattering for some, but a small victory at least for @mack34 @urbanetics_ and myself 😅. The long-dead Christmas lights around the median light-poles on Euclid are finally coming down.

It was a big day for us Downtown dwellers!!! 😂😂

okay, now do the jersey barriers!

Fire every single person in the “Forestry” department. It can’t get any worse. Sub it all out to the Metroparks.

I just don't understand this trend lately of putting street trees in like that. A 1ft x 1ft square cut in the sidewalk that is just large enough for the trunk. How do they expect them to get any water? We can't be surprised all these trees die. Its the same reason all the ones in the hard top section of Public Square are dying.

I know. It always pisses me off when l see or read about the total lack of concern for trees. Especially mature trees. Every single neighborhood that catches my eye always has at least one component - mature trees.

This is the city where along the exit ramps they'd erect big fancy billboards that said "CITY SIDE GARDENS" and in front would be a bunch small of dead trees, arranged like bowling pins.

@surfohio You speak the absolute truth on this.  - It was a thing.

Who owns the maintenance of the planters along the center strip on superior downtown?  Their in a disgraceful state for such a high profile location. This lack of maintained has been accepted for far too long. Little things can make a big difference.

“They’re”. Almost as disgraceful as my English!

City of Cleveland (probably Parks & Maintenance).    They are awful at their jobs.   Nothing is done until lots of complaints come in.
