CINCINNATI 20th Anniversary UrbanOhio Meet - Tue, May 14th @ Somerset Bar at 5:30pm

Hey all, so CNU (hosted by UrbanOhio's very own @JYP) will be in the Queen City and a host of folks will be in town to celebrate urbanism.  @JYP and I thought it'd be a perfect time for forumers to finally have a meet up somewhere in Downtown/OTR after work.  Get a drink, maybe a little tour, or just hanging out. We've been doing this for 20 years so why not celebrate!!!

We'll be meeting at Somerset Bar in OTR starting around 5:30pm.  Please come and meet some fellow forumers!

Thanks @ColDayMan!

There are a lot of things going during and around CNU in Cincinnati so it would be great if UrbanOhioans can turn out!

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe ColDay will be down on Tuesday (May 14th) so that would be a good opportunity to meet fellow UOers before the Congress starts. If any one is interested, let me or Chris know. I can help coordinate.

One note/plug. Incremental Development Alliance will be doing an all day session at the Netherland Plaza on Tuesday and the StrongTowns National Gathering will be kicking off that afternoon in the same space. CNU is sharing their booking with these groups since they get the space for the whole week and do not use it till Wednesday.

If you are curious and want to know more about CNU32 or want to register, here is the link to learn more: www.cnu.org/cnu32

I hope to see some familiar faces here in Cincy soon!

“Confirmed”

I should be able too

It's funny that Chris texted me about this last night because I had just been thinking of a meetup the night before. I plan on being there, and I'm kind of pumped about it. Not only because I haven't seen y'all in a really long time, but also because I've never been inside Somerset.

Also, I love that my quote is still part of Chris's signature. 😀

Would love to, especially since I live around the corner from Somerset, but can't due to previous commitments.

Will Chuck Marohn be podcasting from there? I met him at CNU in Dallas in 2015. I didn't get to be a guest, though, even though I was working out of a conference room just down the hall at the hotel.

He mentioned earlier this year that he intends to stick around and podcast from the hallways like in past years. There is no word on whether this is official.

He and other StrongTowns leaders will also host an event as part of the CNU.32 Pub Crawl on Thursday evening at Northern Row.

This sounds great! Will try to attend and try to match some names to (mysterious!) UO handles!

Wish I could go but have fun you all, one of these days, probably in 10 years, will be my 20th anniversary on the forum then I'll be there ha ha.

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend due to travelling for work, next time!

I'll be there.

I have a meeting conflict. Wish I could be there!

I haven't been down on McMicken in years, and I've never been to Somerset. Parking suggestions?

I'd suggest Zeigler garage and walk?  I think I'm doing that.

I could do that or Mercer. I might be in the area a little earlier, depending on the thunderstorms ⛈️.

Yes, I saw this map on their site. I don't trust those because they're often not updated.

The owner replied to a review 6 months ago on google maps saying that you could park in that lot. I do understand the hesitation, though. There might also just be an open spot on the street on that block. Probably worth checking it out on your way to your parking lot/garage of choice if you're comfortable doing that.

I sadly won't be able to attend.

Looking forward to seeing everyone, and I'm also excited to hear reports-back from CNU/Strong Towns attendees later in the week what they thought of Cincinnati and Dayton!!!

There is almost always street parking on Walnut between Liberty/McMicken as well. I'll keep an eye on your car for you!

It was cool to see everybody again and to meet some new people. Thanks for posting the pics, @richNcincy! @ColDayMan, if it was you who selected the venue, nice choice! I never imagined that McMicken would ever be like that.

@mcmicken, I didn't even tell you which car I had (the red Escape), but I was pretty much in front of your house. It still looks great! Are you involved in the work next door?

I had actually done the drawings for a previous owner but they ended up selling the building. Am finally getting my buildings on McMicken started this fall and doing the drawings for 1623-25 Walnut across the street for the new owner.

That's excellent. I can't believe how much the area has improved. I did read a few of the markers for the trail, too. Those turned out really nice.

It was nice to reconnect with so many people after years apart and equally great to make new acquaintances.
