I was expecting some type of tower crane the whole time. I actually think this project is slated for 8 stories. Well it was originally, has it changed? Found it, it's supposed to top out at 7. May 15, 20196 yr Looks like activity is picking up at the Third & Long (Schottenstein Development) project.
May 30, 20196 yr Based on construction permits, it seem that WeWork will be headed to 65 E State on Capitol Square. According to the permits they are occupying floors 21-24. The location/building seems a little off brand for WeWork (they often favor historic buildings) but what is on brand is that by my math I believe they will have access/control of the outdoor space located on 23rd floor of the tower. I think they just get what's available that works for them regardless of the architecture.
June 16, 20195 yr Teeth-aligning company Candid taking over space at former Dispatch building The former home of The Columbus Dispatch is getting a new resident. Candid, a company that makes clear teeth aligners, is taking over three floors and part of a fourth of the building at 34 S. 3rd Street, according to commercial real estate firm CBRE, which handled the transaction. Candid will be moving into the new building in phases starting this fall, taking over 32,258 square feet of space. It also has space at 107 S. High Street that it will keep. Columbus has become the second headquarters for Candid, a 2-year-old company based in Manhattan. It started with six employees in Columbus when it moved into the S. High Street building last year. Now, it has 150 employees here and it expects to employ 200 by the end of the year. Overall, the company has 350 employees. Once the company moves in to 34 S. 3rd St., the former Dispatch building will be full. The Dispatch staff moved out of the building to 62 E. Broad St. after the sale of the newspaper to Gatehouse Media in 2015. Candid will join the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, The Dispatch Printing Company and its real-estate operation, Capital Square Ltd., in the building. June 27, 20195 yr The sidewalk is slowly finishing up, can't wait until they plant the street trees so we can see slightly less of the building.

The Schottenstein one is moving slowly and didn't warrant any pictures, they're still playing in the dirt. The restoration of the historic building near Pins is also progressing but I'll take pictures if I see a worthwhile change. I'm downtown everyday if there's something you want to see let me know and I'll do my best to get an update.
June 27, 20195 yr It looks like it's made of papier-mâché. Say what you will about highpoint, but at least it doesn't look it will melt away in the rain. I'm very surprised the downtown commission allows these materials. LC wanted to switch their projects on High and Rich in river south to faux brick panels, even installed a couple of them to try and make their case, but the commission said no.

June 27, 20195 yr Grabbed a shot walking home yesterday, not much different than Cityscapes image but figured I'd throw it on here for you all anyway. Enjoy.

Really, though... wont the commission review this work and ask for changes to be made in the areas that they see as problem areas. This finish is awful. How does someone get held accountable?

June 28, 20195 yr I remember touring this building in '84 when it first opened and at the time they were like "We're going to do something with this..." referring to the rooftop, but I never got to see what they ended up doing back then.
July 2, 20195 yr Going up! It's actually really interesting/strange how they are building this thing. They seem to be working from the northwest corner towards the southeast corner, it's like a ripple. Enjoy

I wish there was a comprehensive plan to bury them throughout all of downtown and upgrade the sidewalks and landscaping to the downtown standards regardless of when new development takes place because it looks really bad down a lot of downtown streets. I think the reason why this building is going up faster on one side than the other is because of the pool. The one side has to be concrete up until the pool since I'm pretty sure wood construction can't support a swimming pool. The rest of the building will be wood frame so that can proceed faster.
July 9, 20195 yr https://www.dispatch.com/business/20190709/edwards-companies-sell-several-downtown-apartment-complexes-other-buildings According to the above linked article, the Edwards Companies - developer of the Neighborhood Launch downtown development - has sold two apartment buildings and an adjacent East Long Street block of property to Coastal Ridge Real Estate for $62 million. Coastal Ridge Real Estate has offices on West Fifth Avenue in Marble Cliff. The properties sold by Edwards are the following: The five-story, 129-unit Normandy apartments at 295 E. Long Street and the 5-story, 129-unit Neilston apartments at 255 E. Long Street (both pictured below) A former church at 315 E. Long Street (purchased from Faith Mission) now used as the apartments community center and leasing center Two commercial buildings at 329-333 E. Long Street on the same block as the former church
July 14, 20195 yr The parking lot to the east of 230 E Long is fenced off in your picture which makes me think the parking lot with the retail along Long is going to start construction soon.

August 3, 20195 yr The Nicholas must have held a media tour for the $75 million project takes up the west side of High Street between Gay Street and Long Street - because our three main sources of development news (The Dispatch, Business First and CU) all had photo slideshows of the project this week (linked below). The final Nicholas project will have 230 apartments, 20,000 square feet of ground floor retail and a 400-space parking garage. According to the reports, the Nicholas will open in three phases, moving from south to north along High Street. The first phase at Gay & High opened about two weeks ago. The second phase in the middle of the project will open within two months. The final phase at the corner of Long & High will open by the end of 2019. https://www.dispatch.com/news/20190801/nicholas-luxury-apartment-complex-opens-at-gay-and-high-streets https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/08/01/photos-see-inside-the-nicholas-anew-development.html https://www.columbusunderground.com/first-look-the-nicholas-bw1 The design of the finished Nicholas project is getting rightfully beat-up by our UO posters. So I'll include a photo of my favorite part of the project - a tunnel under Gay Street that connects the Nicholas project with the Citizens Building (a far superior 63-unit renovation of an existing 9-story office building by Edwards). The Nicholas residents will have access to the fitness center and other amenities in the Citizens Building - and the residents of the Citizens will have access to parking garage in the Nicholas project.
August 13, 20195 yr Looks like we're up to level 6 with one more to go! I'm impressed how much place this building holds visually from around the area.
August 14, 20195 yr Additionally, looks like Schottenstein has gone vertical with their project on 3rd. Taken from behind PINS, looking southwest.
August 26, 20195 yr Update, the 7th and final floor framing going up on the northwest piece of the building. I'm in love with how much this fills in the area so far.
September 12, 20195 yr Construction updates! Below are some updates images of the project happenings in this part of Downtown. Schottenstein Renovation/Addition on 3rd. Podium has been built out for the most part and timber seems to be arriving on site to go vertical. RISE Brands HQ has been progressing quickly, construction fencing has come down and the patio/event space addition on the back has started. Finally, 230 E Long has reached full height on the northwest corner and crews have started installing windows. The structure is about 1/3 of what its final massing will be, should make quite an impact. Enjoy.

October 9, 20195 yr Okay I'm really a big fan of this, I know it's pretty out there but it's a nice change from the norm we have been seeing.
October 10, 20195 yr What was that one building on E. Long St. east of High that had the 3-color waves on the side? Or maybe it was on Spring? It's been gone about 15 years I'd say. This new building kind of reminds me of it.
