August 16, 20231 yr I love that the rendering has that extra little detail on the roofline. Old buildings use to be works of art and we really need to bring that back. If you like that old architecture detailing, head up to Detroit and walk around downtown and have your mind blown by all the beautiful detailing on so many buildings there.
August 16, 20231 yr Apartments Proposed for Another Parking Lot Downtown Another surface parking lot Downtown could soon get the infill development treatment. A new proposal from Finance Fund calls for a seven-story, 78-unit apartment building at the southwest corner of Gay Street and Grant Avenue. The project is on the agenda for next week’s Downtown Commission meeting. It’ll be reviewed conceptually, meaning no vote will take place. Plans that were submitted to the city in advance of the meeting show a first-floor parking garage with room for 29 cars. Also shown is a rooftop solar array.
August 16, 20231 yr Another parking lot will bite the dust. Also loving the ground floor retail. I was just down here last week enjoying a Sunday at the CMOA a block away. I love how connected Gay street has made it all the way from High Street to the art museum now!! This will only add to it. Also, with so many other buildings already built and in the pipeline in the area, it will help patronize The Hills Market across the street from this. Cattycorner from here is a beautiful older building in great shape next to another corner lot I'm sure is ripe for another housing project in the near future also. August 17, 20231 yr Nonprofit Finance Fund seeks to turn this downtown surface parking lot into 78 apartments The Finance Fund plans to build a seven-story apartment building on a Gay Street surface parking lot downtown. The 78-unit proposed apartment building would be the second apartment building developed by Finance Fund, a nonprofit community development organization, within a few blocks. A Finance Fund spokeswoman said the organization is seeking tax credits from the Ohio Housing Finance Authority for the project and hopes to keep rent prices affordable, but couldn't speak further on the project. The Downtown Commission will hear the proposal next week. August 17, 20231 yr Looking at the plans for this, I think it’s a huge miss to hit add a small corner retail/restaurant space. This area will be very walkable soon and there is only really Matt and Tony’s to eat at. Pierogi mountain is close as well, but seems like a miss to not have something.
August 23, 20231 yr Downtown Commission: New Apartments Approved, Restaurant Planned for High Street The Downtown Commission this morning approved a plan to build a five-story, 120-unit mixed-use development at 266 E. Main St. The new building will sit on what is now an under-utilized parking lot for the 11-story Jaycee Arms complex, which has held affordable senior housing since the early 1970s and would remain intact (continuing to serve that population) under the plan. The development has been before the commission twice previously, with changes to the design made each time based on the board’s feedback. When it was first presented in December of last year, plans called for two separate buildings. Now a single building, the apartments will be located on the upper floors, over first-floor commercial space and a rear parking lot will be partially covered by a raised amenity deck for residents. The AI rendering is comically awful ... I can't believe they've now presented that multiple times. I really don't understand it either bc guaranteed the architecture firm has a 3D model ... There's no reason they can't give us an actual image, even if it's not a flashy fancy rendering. At this point a screenshot of it in model space would tell us more about what's actually going on with this building than the provided "rendering" And I believe there's no retail, just parking, lobby, and fitness center for residents only - which is a shame Edited December 15, 20231 yr by NW24HX

January 8, 20241 yr I’ve been seeing some online permits for this, happy to see it finally get some news. CAPA plans to turn long-vacant downtown Columbus church into music venue CAPA plans to spend $14 million transforming the Central Presbyterian Church at 132 S. 3rd St. The new venue could host performances, weddings, corporate events and other gatherings, CAPA CEO Chad Whittington said. As part of the project, CAPA wants to tear down a 1930s addition on the church building and construct something new in its place. The new building, which will be connected to the church, would span the current parking lot and include multiple bars, including one that would have access to the performance area. Patrons would enter via a door on 3rd Street. The main church building will be preserved. The stained glass and existing balconies will all remain. Pending fundraising and necessary approvals, CAPA plans to demolish the addition in July and finish construction in the summer of 2026.

I hope they won't. I appreciate that this is a historic preservation project, but I'd say the '30s portion should be saved as well. It matches the building well and has some substantial mass to it. They could definitely utilize it creatively instead.
