Ravenna updates: 'Wet Go' planned at former car dealership. More parking coming to downtown

Diane Smith

Record-Courier

A former car dealership next to Ravenna's Get Go gas station is being razed to make way for a car wash affiliated with the gas station chain in the Cotton Corners area of Ravenna Township.

The Ravenna Planning Commission this week approved plans for Wet Go to move to the site of the former Courtesy car dealership at 1345 E. Main St. in Ravenna. It was most recently used by the nearby Haasz car dealer. The site is on the border of the city and Ravenna Township, and township officials will need to approve the same plans, City Engineer Bob Finney said.

Ravenna planners review site proposal for medical marijuana dispensary

Diane Smith

Record-Courier

Ravenna planners got their first look Tuesday at a proposal for the city's first medical marijuana dispensary.

The Ravenna Planning Commission had a preliminary discussion on the site plan. Mayor Frank Seman said a vote on the proposal won't take place until after a public hearing, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 25.

The Ravenna store, at 554 N. Chestnut St., would be the second medical marijuana dispensary in Portage County. A dispensary at 331 E. Main St. in Kent, which will be called Bliss Ohio, was approved by that city's planning commission in August. Wellspring Fields also cultivates medical marijuana from a site on Lake Rockwell Road in Ravenna Township.

On 7/29/2023 at 4:27 PM, Silent Matt said:

It says office building in the story. But likely a staging yard and shop. A company like this would likely only have a couple people on the property during the day.

He said he plans to store vehicles on the property in the short term, then eventually move the business to the Ravenna site from Mogadore once the building is constructed.

"We mostly operate in the field," he said. "We're mostly out on the sites, and would come here to swap gear."

'We need to get it right': Some ask why parks and rec left out of Ravenna City Hall plan

Diane Smith

Ravenna Record-Courier

Ravenna City Council got its first look at renderings for the planned city hall and safety center, but many expressed concerns that the city's Parks and Recreation Department was left out of the design.

In August, the city hired an architect to design the complex, which is planned for the 5-acre site at East Main and Clinton streets, the site where Ravenna High School once stood. The city paid $315,000 for the land last year.
