April 21, 200619 yr Better than Larry Stulz!!! You forumers in Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, and Toledo need to get ColDay up in the air!
April 21, 200619 yr I do want to point out that it was a bit hazy that day, so the picture quality isn't going to be spectacular. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 21, 200619 yr Every picture is worth a thread to itself. I'm just floored, nearly in tears it's so beautiful. Wow. Just plain wow. That needs to be framed. Thank you thank you thank you...just so wonderfully done...
April 21, 200619 yr "I do want to point out that it was a bit hazy that day, so the picture quality isn't going to be spectacular." Oh shut the hell up - you know these are awesome! "You forumers in Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, and Toledo need to get ColDay up in the air!" Hey, let ME have a crack at it in the next month or two - then we can get ColDay flying over Cleveland. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 21, 200619 yr We need a donation drive to purchase an UrbanOhio airplane, and pilot training for someone (unless we have a member here who is a pilot). Then we can do aerial tours whenever we want!
April 21, 200619 yr ^I agree. Hey is it illegal to go hang-gliding in Cincinnati? That could be a cheaper alternative lol.
April 21, 200619 yr ^I'm with Pigboy. Lets see...if it cost $500,000 thats only...$729 per member. Pay up!
April 21, 200619 yr Hey, we put a bid on one of those townhouses on Alpine (near the foot of that center tower). But it was a back-up offer and we didn't get it . . . Oh well. Awesome shots; all of them.
April 21, 200619 yr amazing pics. What was the limits on how high or low you could fly? I think we had to stay 1,000 feet above the highest object in a 1 mile radius. Figure 500 feet above sea level downtown plus what, 650 for Carew? Plus 1,000, so the minimum was around 2150...a few radio towers might have been higher, plus the pilot was very safety conscious (which was greatly appreciated!), so I think we figured on 2500. CVG cleared us up to I think 2900 and gave us a nice blanket clearance, talked with Lunken for us so we didn't have to a) do a hand-off and b) essentially exunt stage left from CVG's Class B airspace - we flew right over Lunken and then back over downtown. Air traffic control was really nice... Anyway, back to the question - I think we were at about 2500 feet, which means about 2000 feet above downtown, about 1700 feet above Mt. Adams, and somewhere in between for the rest of the area.

Then we can do aerial tours whenever we want! well i know a pilot here in cleveland with his own plane....... also, not knowing nati, i'm guessing this is UC, but whats the curvy building next to the stadium?
April 21, 200619 yr very grand views. interesting how the photos kind of level out what is on the ground a very hilly city. i also found it amazing how much space the stadia at uc take up on the tight campus as well as the highways (i just dont think of the highways as so freakin wide). looks like fun too. did you do any wing walking? or ask the pilot to loop-de-loop before you landed? heh. i picture you guys up there with goggles on, leather caps and a scarf flying behind you.

Then we can do aerial tours whenever we want! well i know a pilot here in cleveland with his own plane....... also, not knowing nati, i'm guessing this is UC, but whats the curvy building next to the stadium? To the left of Nippert Stadium, the curvey building is part of Varsity Village, then the red boxey building is Shoemaker; to the right of Nippert is the new Tangeman (Student Center)
April 21, 200619 yr I believe you are talking about the gray curvy bldg. immediatly next to Nippert (correct me if I am wrong). But that is part of the massive Campus Recreation Center (new). The curvy part includes classrooms with a a dining hall and restaurant below. Continuing leftward, on the massive structure, you then have the recreation uses (indoor track, weight rooms, cardio, bball courts, racketball courts, rock climbing wall, lazy river/hot tub/relaxing pool, olympic pool with diving boards, juice bar, and fitness instruction rooms (kick boxing, dancing, karate, etc.) Then the taller part of the structure is student housing...I believe it is around 500 units or so, with a market on ground level. This is part of the new 'Main St.' on UC's campus. Main St. includes all of the student services/offices, bookstore, business store, dining options, art galleries, theatre, bar/lounge, and meeting space. Main St. has its own thread on here and I highly recommend checking it out. This is UC's new calling card and has been praised by the likes of the Chicago Tribune, LA Times, and other publications. Sorry to go on one of my UC rants....but I just love the place!
April 21, 200619 yr I believe that there are more surface lots on Xavier's campus than there are buildings. Come on XU lets get it together and start developing your campus in a smarter fashion...a more urban fashion. I also heard that they might be tearing down those old industrial bldgs. across from the Cintas Center (far left of the photo) to make way for student housing....ever heard of adaptive reuse? Those bldgs. would be perfect to convert into student housing....dont tear down those gems.
April 21, 200619 yr Stunning, I want to go up so bad and have a shot at aerial photography. Jealous indeed... UncleRando, we know Xavier can't be as cool as UC, it is after all 100% car dependant. Is there even one restaurant walking distance?
April 21, 200619 yr Great shots - thanks for sharing. Makes us "expatriates" very homesick indeed... Here's a vote for the next trip up to be in the fall - I can only imagine how nice everything would look with the autumn colors. Thanks again!
April 22, 200619 yr i think that new project on Hyde Park Square looks good from the sky. Anyone got updated pics from the street?
April 22, 200619 yr UncleRando, we know Xavier can't be as cool as UC, it is after all 100% car dependant. Is there even one restaurant walking distance? yes, there is an Italian restaurant within walking distance. There are also a few bars (Norwood Cafe aka The Woods, Dana Gardens, and a few others I can't think of right now.) within walking distance. I walked to The Woods every week when I was a senior. ;) There is also a bowling alley in walking distance. That giant surface lot at the bottom of the picture was not there when I was a student. I always thought they should have built a parking garage instead of all the lots. They do have a need for a lot of parking because there are a lot of commuters. Most of the grad students alone are commuters. They sometimes tear down buildings because it is cheaper to do so and build new. That was the case of the student center on campus. They still have several old buildings on campus that they chose to renovate instead of tearing down. Xavier is cool!
April 22, 200619 yr Great job. BTW Larry Stulz only gives away lower res photos on the web, he makes a lot of money with the higher res stuff.
April 22, 200619 yr If I were ColdDayMan I'd frame these and sell them. The fact that these pics were just taken and are up-to-date gives him an automatic advantage :)
April 22, 200619 yr Oh my fucking god. Again. Thanks for the supply of desktop wallpaper. These should last me a year.
April 23, 200619 yr What an awesome thread..The aerials presented are absolutely spectacular. We will be traveling to Cincy in a few months.
April 23, 200619 yr You really get a sense from the downtown shots of how 'isolated' we have made the CBD by surrounding it with all of those highways and concrete. We HAVE TO cover of the Fort Washington Way. I will be spending hours looking at these. (my wife hates you) Thank you very much for all of this hard and excellent work. (a little hazy tho' )
May 6, 200619 yr Just looked through these again showing a friend, and Jesus, Chris, you're amazing...what a fantastic thread...
July 10, 200618 yr thanks to riverviewer for pointing this thread out, and thanks to colday for the awesome shots! that must've been a lot of fun.
July 10, 200618 yr But Ethan doesn't like to do aerial tours of Mason and West Chester. So perhaps you're SOL? "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 11, 200618 yr Very nice!If there is a next time perhaps you could show some love to the westside? Also, what are all those "crop circles" in and around U.C.?
July 11, 200618 yr Very nice!If there is a next time perhaps you could show some love to the westside? Also, what are all those "crop circles" in and around U.C.? CVG has a 5.75 mile radius around it of Class A airspace, which basically means you ain't gonna get clearance to fly there. So roughly, draw an arc from Addyston through Cheviot through the Price Hills to Devou Park or so. All of that's a no-go. I guess we probably hit a little Lower Price Hill, but that's about it. And that's all a little rough - you need clearance even for the Class B airspace that covers the whole area around here. CVG's air traffic control was really nice to us, gave us a nice, long window at a nice altitude, and let us dance around in Northside and circle downtown and all that for a good while. But when it got up near 7:00 or so (I think - not certain on that), they had a bunch of arrivals scheduled and asked us to clear out of the general area - basically, to get north of the lateral or east of 75. We were basically done by then anyway, so that wasn't a problem. In short, we didn't hit the west side because we weren't able to, not because we didn't want to give it some huggin' and squeezin'!
July 12, 200618 yr Well thank you gentlemen for your hard work, looks like you went above and beyond the call. This is a beautiful thread and you should be very proud. EXCELLENT!!!!
July 20, 200717 yr ColDayMan is my baby daddy. I can't imagine how much total he's paying in child support these days.
July 27, 200717 yr Damn! This is the first time I've ever been happy after accidentally clicking on an internet ad! My desktop has a new background. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
